Election ResultsVoter turnout for this election was high, and Brian Mulroney was re-elected Prime Minister of Canada, with John Turner as the leader of the Official Opposition. Although the Conservatives were able to keep support in Quebec and the west, they lost seats in BC and Ontario. The NDP made impressive gains in this election, winning its highest number of seats yet. Population of Canada (1988): 25,309,331
