The NBA starts its season a month AFTER the NHL, plays the same number of games, and has the samenumber of playoff rounds. Yet they've wrapped up their season. And the NHL is still going and going.
Yeah they wrapped up their season three whole days before the NHL.

Right!
And the National Winter Filler Sport League has comparatively little revenue from TV (unlike far more popular sports like football ,baseball etc.)So it has to drag out it's season and play off schedule to maximize gate...
Hey,it's a niche/seasonal sport that plays 2/3rds of its games out of season...There's a reason for this and it's not because it's popular!

/facepalmYes there second, third, fourth, fifth and so on. That's how they decide who plays who in the playoffs. By losing the finals the Canucks still finished ahead of all the teams that either didn't make the playoffs in the first place or bowed out in the earlier rounds. The Leafs would have killed to lose in 7.
In professional team sports there's always a champion, and then everybody else. You think the Canucks are thinking "yay, at least we finished in 2nd place?". And do you think Tampa Bay or San Jose is thinking "yay, at least we finished in 3rd or 4th place?". This isn't the Olympics. There is no silver and bronze medal!
