My heart goes out to all those thousands of unemployed Canadians who can't get any where with EI claims. I would think that this is one department that shouldn't cut back workers until ALL the claims have been dealt with. It seems like every week workers are losing their jobs and Sears workers may be the next ones in line and they probably have to wait 6 months or longer. This is totally unexceptable. Findley better fix the problem or step down and let someone who can. Of course, she doesn't have to worry about losing her job, since she married to a senator, who is buddy to the PM. http://www.theglobea...article2284731/

While I agree with your conclusions, one of the premises these articles often miss is that the Conservatives changed EI so that students in their last 2 years of their program could claim it. The huge boost in numbers is at least in part due to that. While I support students, I don't believe collecting EI is an appropriate or effective way to do that.

"History I believe furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free and civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance, of which their political as well as their religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purpose."

I had no idea that the EI program was changed to allow this. Gotta say on first read that I don't support this, when I was a student I had student loans and survived just fine.
