In a surprise to no one China has defended its veto over further steps against the Syrian regime. Of course China a nation that has been locked in a permanent form of low level revolution for years would veto a resolution that might as well be applied to China itself. They have a riots like the one that rocked the UK and France every week (90,000 riots and mass protests in 2009 alone).

At least China is up front about it compared to other Arab leaders (installed or backed by Western interests). Syria president's Bashar Assad had a point when he called the Arab League of bunch of hypocrites. It's almost a comedy to have Bahrain who slaughtered and oppressed its Arab Spring or Saudi Arabia one of the douche baggiest countries in the world, when it come to human rights, lecture Syria on killing innocent civilians.

One positive note is that Russia and China have now both shown their true colours. I suspect that the citizens of Syria, when they have won their freedom, will remember who are their friends and who aren't. And they won't believe those who speak Chinese or Russian are their friends!

No doubt the rest of the brave people of other countries in that region who are involved in the "Arab Spring" movement have also seen for themselves.

China and Russia may have hurt themselves in the long run with a short term futile attempt to prop up a despot.

Actually, it's Hu Jintao that's performing the lap dance. We have oil that they want and need.

Anyways, once again, China behaves horribly on the world stage, and the left comes out in a full throated defense. I can't say that I'm suprised. It's been their M.O. for the last several years.

Shady, I see you're in London, which normally a Conservative city but you have a Liberal Mayor. There's nothing wrong with any Canadian saying their views on Harper, or ANY PM, just like if you didn't vote for your mayor, you have your views. It seems you only look at ONE side of an issue and that's Harper's. Of course, Russia and China would defend Syria and Iran, they do business with them, they get oil from them, it has NOTHING to do with Harper, well not directly.

I see little point in these kinds of fine distinctions among reprehensible regimes.
