If the Mayor had a traditional weekend at the cottage during Caribana would people call him racist.

If the mayor had a traditional weekend at the cottage during Caribana and went out of his way to avoid any association with the event, people might have reason to think he was.

As well they should be slagged. Gays did nothing wrong. Christian beliefs are insulting and harmful.

How intolerant, I thought tolerance was a two way street (or more)..

I’m beginning to believe “Harper derangement syndrome” is more than just a catchy phrase.  Those poor ‘progressives’ have snapped due to the undue strain of having to live under a Tory gov’t. and Stephen Harper.

There's nothing about being tolerant that says one should tolerate intolerance.

That's a tolerable conclusion.

Ahhh ... full frontal nudity at Pride ...
It's so rare that you really have to be looking for it to really notice ... but I bow to your apparently broad experience monitoring the parade looking for loose weenies. Do you use a telescopic lens or get right up close to verify?

At my one experience with Pride, I was up close at the local Starbucks. I saw one guy with his body totally painted, a bit wrinkly, and until I stared really hard I thought he was wearing a leather pouch ... but he wasn't.
You really have to look for nudity to find it, but I gather you've done the due diligence.

And of course at this point we all know you're just prejudiced with teeny-tiny objections ... btw ... do the topless women bother you too? They're legal, you know, and at times it's hard to tell if they're wearing bottoms or just paint.

So what we have is your reason to stay away from the parade.

... But it looks like the Mayor is relenting and may attend a Pride event this year, if not the parade. I think Menzie's radio rant about Smitherman while the Mayor and bro Doug sat silent ... has finally shamed him into an appearance. :D

I enjoyed that. No denial of my point, simply a swipe at me. Made me laugh. More please.

I suspect not.

I wonder if he'll get jeered and I wonder if people will still be pissed he wont be at the parade.

Well good for Ford. Surprising move indeed! Is it just for PR & votes or does he really mean it though?

Doesn't matter.

As the head rep of the city, je speaks for the city and we welcome it.

If he gets more votes because of it, so be it. We cannot vilify him for not doing it, and we cannot vilify him because he did.

Good job mayor ford.

What votes? Honestly, none of the people that really care about this are ever going to vote for Ford, no matter what he does.

Yes this coming from someone who justifies using Gay Pride events to allow certain gays to use it as an opportunity to
spew anti semitic attacks against Jews and Jewish gays.

Your selective two faced hippocracy speaks for itself. You the grand poobah of tolerance will dictate to we unwashed masses as to what can and can not be tolerated.

Now Rick here is my take on it. Ford is no phony. He is what he is. He comes from a generation where
he is not comfortable with gays.

I come from that generation as well and they aint no big deal to me. Just jackasses like the rest of us.

I personally think he should go if for no other reason he represents these people just as he does all the
straights. Gays are a distinct group of people-a distinct collective identity of people and they have the
right to be acknowledged by their political leaders as such.

I think it is a shame he can not get over his fear of gays and go.

That said, I would prefer he not go, then go and be a phony and smile through gritted teeth. I also think
being a phony is b.s.

You can not force someone to be what he is not. Its like telling him to go on a diet and become thin. Aint gonna
happen he's a fat man.

That said I criticize him for not going but I criticize for the exact same reasons some of the righteous jackasses on this
board who think they are superior to him and can lecture us all on tolerance.

We have one poster who says its o.k. to be intolerant about intolerance, this coming from the same poster who sees nothing
wrong with gays using gay pride day to spew anti semitism and anti Israeli diatribes out. That of course is fine.

They are selective as to who should not be tolerated and then presume to come on this board and dictate to us all what we can
and can not tolerate.

To me Ford is intolerant of gays yes but they are equally as intolerant of anyone who does not conform to their views as to what
is politically correct in life and so I find them just as questionable.

At least Ford is direct, open and honest what he is. He does not cloack his opinions with coached words of righteousness.

Ford has never engaged in insulting words to gays. He may not be a politicaly correct or hip person and may be old fashioned but
he has not and has never condoned hatred of gays.

What's the excuse of the pink righteous lecturers on this board who lambast him? The difference is unlike him, they pretend they
ain't fat and believe me at gay pride day their short comings are there for all to see.

I have gone in support of people dying of aids. Was I comfortable. Well it wasn't too bad. Hell no I don't think old men with thongs are pleasant to look at. Made me wince. But they ar egood decent people once a year trying to show pride about who they are to try compensate for all the rest of the days they deal with all kinds of shit. That is all.

I do not expect Ford or you to get that. Its not my thing seeing guys in thongs either. I am not here to lecture you on it. I respect your right and Ford's. Neither of you came here to say you hate. You just don't have a preference for it.

I get it. I respect your right. I have to. I may be more lenient on such issues but I am no two faced twat who will tell you its my way or you are morally inferior and intolerant.

To me if someone has religious views about gays being wrong I say its your right-just understand you can not use those beliefs to
justify engaging in violence against gays or using the law to discriminate against them.

They are just one of many groups of people. We all have to learn to give each other space.

As for Ford, I think the real reason some of the righteous on this board can not resist putting him down is because he is what they fear being-open about his true beliefs and feelings. He really lets his stomach hang out. They can not. They dare not get too chubby and take themselves off the meat market.

Here's the best way to summarize this. You will find this thread is really about some people who think their sausages are kosher and then when some of us say that is impossible they want to protest our kosher cynicism.

You ask me they should stick to raw fish.
Shaddup and be tolerant.
