You guys may want to tune in to Power & Politics right now. Apparently, Chretien says the LPC and NDP need to merge. He's also going to talk about the "night of the long knives."

It was, which is why it's so distasteful that Quebec adopted that phrase.

Chretien is so sleazy though. I can't even stand watching him here. Jesus. He's perhaps the single most arrogant politician in Canadian history or at the very least second behind Trudeau.

Card carrying Liberal here.

If the party dares to even take a merger seriously, I'll cut my card in half and send it back to the party. I am not a Socialist, I am not an NDPer.

If the party wants to merge, merge with a party that has similar ideas like the Greens.

If the Liberals decide to join the NDP, I will be joining the Conservatives.

This would work in some provinces.

Alberta, in particular.

Could work in Manitoba, and Saskatchewan if the NDP is willing.

Would never work in BC.

I welcome this, the easiest and most democratic way if for all Liberals to give up their memberships and take memberships out in the one member one vote NDP.

I welcome this. The easiest way to do this is for all Liberals to give up their Liberal memberships and take out memberships in the one member one vote NDP where policy is determined at the grassroot level and the leader beholden to what the membership decides by majority votes.

I see what you did there.

Hell no. The last thing I want is a bipartisan system. We need more parties. Not less imo.

Very often the Rightwing parties merge to take on the NDP and Previously CCF...
Once this occurs you get a two party system and a 3rd option is desired.. such as in BC the growth of the Green Party..as the 3rd option...

It is a matter of time before a 3rd or 4th or 5th party is created as people will always want and demand choice. It is possible in the Canadian System for even small parties to compete as well as populist grassroots party.

I believe the same could occur in the US with other parties but the barriers required for success are to large of hurdles... so unless you are Ross Perot and can fund your own Campaign and create a political party around your income... its rare for any upstart party to participate in the modern era.

I believe the last time the US had 3 parties prior to Perot was during the Teddy Roosevelt era but someone can correct me on that ... i am guesssing...

If I only had two choices I would puke first and then work on creating a 3rd and better option.. ;)

IF this merger happened...I might create the WB party... which is way superior to Wild Rose...
