What?

Conrad Black is a Convicted Criminal. He is self absorbed with his own self and his criminal activities including jailtime.
The Conservative Government is his enabler and always will be there for the Criminal Lord Black of Crossharbour.

On another note...
I came across a poll in that 83% did not approve of the Government bringing back Conrad Black.
If only it could be 99% but then again, 17% could be die hard Conservatives and only read the National post. :P

That's just more gibberish; you've explained nothing.

There is no law barring the granting of peerage titles (hereditary or life) or titular honours to people who hold Canadian citizenship.
[ed.: +]

Then why did Black forfeit his Canadian citizenship and passport?

I believe that if Cretien errored and was completely biased,Black would have had his lawyers filing lawsuits and issuing subpoenas left right and center.

Keep in mind that Black felt his title granted from the British monarchy was more important to him then his Canadian citizenship! And I personally would never defend someone who would ever make such a choice!

Nobody "errored". It is the prime minister's job to advise the sovereign on how to exercise the Royal Prerogative and, in the absence of any related Act of Parliament or convention, he can say things like "yes, make that citizen a life peer" or "no, don't make that citizen a life peer". Blair told Elizabeth II, as Queen of the United Kingdom, to make Black, as a British citizen, a life peer, leading Chretien to tell Elizabeth II, as Queen of Canada, to not make Black, as a Canadian citizn, a life peer. Black did try to sue, but the court rightly ruled that Chretien had done nothing legally wrong (and nobody here has insinuated otherwise). Chretien was just exacting petty revenge.

I guess this is what it all boils down to isn't it?

Was Cretien being biased?

And as I have stated before, since there are so few examples to compare let alone extrapolate an conclusion,I would not be so quick to judge.

However if there were more examples? In particular under Cretiens terms as PM?

Yes , you are right about Freeman, and I also would like to correct that statment, I thought it true because Kenney had said the he was. Conrad is staying in Canada on a yearly bases but I'm sure the Tories will let him stay as long as he likes. Perhaps he can get a job with the Tory party, he would fit right in.

Topaz, Conrad Black is and always has been a Classic Liberal!

You really should read a book or two once in a while!

He chose his country! He chose the UK.

Some people would have chosen to remain Canadian. He is a Canadian of Convenience.

Maybe so, but when Chretien as the Prime Minister of your country treats you so in such a petty and shabby manner its understandable why you would want nothing more to do with Canada.

Cpl, as a navy brat myself (my father's last service was on the Bonaventure) I have often wondered why they stay!

They have been treated VERY shabbily over the years, particularly by Liberal governments!

As Kipling said:

"Oh its Tommy this and Tommy that,
And 'Chuck 'im out, the brute!'
But it's 'Savior of his country!'
When the guns begin to shoot!"

Oh waaa! Little rich baby takes his soccer ball to jolly old England. His choice was to renounce Canada. He wasn't persecuted, just a privileged whiner.

Bad move by Harper.

Thats the thing with Canada though, people wonder why keep a trained and well equipped military since it is so expensive, and then they demolish the institution through draconian budget cuts. At some point in time there will be a need for the military in one capacity or another and then those same opponents of the military are usually the first to cry out "where is the military". Military life is dangerous by its very nature, but the liberals and specifically Chretien have a lot of blood on their hands because of stupidity, arrogance and ignorance. Military personnel for the most part have the belief that they are responsible for the wellbeing of the nation and if they leave no one will replace them, and thats the thing they are right, as there is a small segment of the population willing to live the military life for long because so much is expected while so little is provided. I am reminded of a saying by Mother Teresa.

“We the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, with so little, for so long, we are now qualified to do anything, with nothing.”
Hope for the Best, Prepare for the Worst

Sadly, as noted on the CBC this morning, there is no precedent here. Other non-Canadian convicts have been let into the country in the past, who've committed more serious crimes than Conrad Black. It boggles the mind...

And many non-Canadian convicted criminals (pot users convicted for possession) have been refused because of their record.

I didn't know that Conrad Black wanted to get married in a wedding dress. Are these recent posts a little off topic?
