Boomers will remember when the soldiers came home from Nam and some of them to show their views on the war, threw their medals away, well the next generation did the same today in the US. Soldiers who have served in both wars, Afghanistan and Iraq, wanted to give their medals back to NATO, but because of the security surrounding the G8 leaders, they threw them instead. http://ca.news.yahoo...-235355143.html

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Nearly 50 U.S. military veterans at an anti-NATO rally in Chicago threw their service medals into the street on Sunday, an action they said symbolized their rejection of the U.S.-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Iraq was not a NATO joint. Boomers will remember far more running for the Canadian border as draft dodgers.

How many members in your armed forces, including Reserves, National Guard and Coast Guard? What 2 ½ million?

I read that and saw it on tv and I can't tell you how emotional it made me feel.
(Damn! There it is again!)

I watched (from a patio) reserve soldiers get off the training bus today.
They are children.
We send them off to wars for the profit of the 1%.
They die, are permanently disabled, mentally and emotionally damaged ... it's horrendous.

I am so proud of veterans who stand up and speak the truth.

War is hell. War for profit is obscene.

And Derek ... if you ... oh never mind. <_<

Almost 3 million, so the 50 does not seem like a large number. Im sure we can get 50 Canadians or Americans who were ashamed to fight the Nazi's.

Closer to 3 million including the Guard and Ready Reserve. For most of them, medal throwing grandstanders like John Kerry are not heroes.

And every single one of those soldiers is a volunteer knowing full well what is expected of them and why they joined up.

We send them? The Americans, like us, are a 100% volunteer force and to call them children is a gross insult. The men and women that serve shouldn’t have the same moniker as those of the same age group that sleep in parks, interrupt classrooms, disrupt public transit etc……..The “protestors” are children and not made up of one tenth of the stuff it takes to voluntarily risk their lives for others.

We send them?

Yes. It's a political decision.
We should have stormed parliament instead.

A political decision? What about if several parties from differing ends of the political spectrum agree with their use? Does this become a moral decision then?

Was the Second World war fought for profit alone?

So all those little girls getting and education was profit? Funny I don't remember how much Canada or the Us made out of that one. Or all those women who received rights, you know they became human beings rather then possessions. If you were a women in Afghanistan under the Taliban I would love to say you would have an opinion more like well most supporters of the Afghanistan mission but you wouldn't, mainly because you are a women and since you wouldn't even be considered a person, you opinion would be less then worthless. I would like to say that a vast majority of the Afghans want us there, unlike some of our peacekeeping missions where no one wanted us there. Plus we are actually doing more good in Afghanistan then pretty much any peacekeeping mission since world war 2 aside from Korea which was more of a peace enforcement mission.

I read years back that during the mid thirties when Churchill was one of the lone members of Parliament decrying Nazi Germany and was written off as a loon, he bought a whole whack of Krupp Steel shares……..
