Explosions at the Boston Marathon

15 April 2013 - 01:03 PM

Apparently a series of explosions went off at the finish line of the Boston marathon as the runners were crossing the finish line. The cause/source of the explosions is unknown. A local reporter is tweeting that she saw limbs blown off.

Problems using quote feature

19 February 2013 - 02:03 PM

The quote feature isn't working correctly for me. Anyone else having problems with it? It won't configure correctly when using Google Chrome and it doesn't have the 'arrow' going back to the original post in either Google Chrome or Firefox on recent posts.

10 Most Fascinating People

15 December 2012 - 07:55 AM

Here is Barbara Walters' 2012 list.Honey Boo Boo made the list. How about that.  According to Walters:

"A lot of people will say, 'For heaven's sake, this is ridiculous, this is a child at 5 or 6 years old entering beauty contests.' But the relationship between Alana and her mother... that's the story, the two of them." She gushed, "It's very touching."

"Honey Boo Boo is not an obnoxious little girl. She's sweet and loving with her mother and loving with her sisters [Jessica, Lauryn and Anna]," Barbara continued. "And now Anna has a new baby, and the baby has [three] thumbs... but so what? It'll make you smile."

Interesting that someone like Barbara Walters considers an ordinary little girl to be more fascinating than, say, the presidential candidates. Only in America? :)

Dogs have to be bilingual?

14 December 2012 - 04:14 PM

omg. I can't believe this. If the proposed law goes into effect in Montreal, dogs will have to understand commands in both English and French.

You can't make this stuff up. There's even a proposed test:

LaDouce wants all dogs in the city to learn at least 80 to 90 commands in both languages, calling the task "basic stuff." He said each canine should be subjected to a test by a city employee to confirm the animal's bilingual comprehension.

World's Most Powerful People

05 December 2012 - 01:31 PM

http://finance.yahoo...-175643537.html

The world's most powerful people, according to Forbes:

1. Barack Obama
2. Angela Merkel
3. Vladimir Putin
4. Bill Gates
5. Pope Benedict XVI
6. Ben Bernanke
7. Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al Saud
8. Mario Draghi
9. Xi Jinping
10. David Cameron

Some interesting picks, imo. Angela Merkel is #2, after Obama - well above #10, David Cameron, who evidently some say is standing in Merkel's shadow.

Do you agree with this list? What changes would you make? For starters, I question why Bill Gates would be more powerful than the leaders of countries who are ranked below him in the top 10. I admire him a lot regarding what he's done with his wealth, but does wealth equal power? As for the Pope, I don't question the power he has, and think perhaps he should have been ranked higher.
