Law against anorexic models goes into effect in Israel

02 January 2013 - 12:25 PM

So I came across this bit of information, a new law is coming to Israel which requires that models be above a certain BMI to be part of fashion shows, tv advertisements and other media outlets. From what I understand the concept here is to limit the exposure to less than healthy role models for teens in particular but also to prevent companies from using photoshop to touch up models without informing the public thus creating an unattainable image for young people to aspire to.

My personal opinion is that this is a good thing as young girls will not be bombarded at the same level no matter where they are and what they do, right now many young girls and young women are starving themselves in order to live up to a standard set up that in most cases is unattainable and and exceptionally unhealthy.

My question is do you guys think that this law or a similar example can be set up in the west and most important do you agree with it and does it feel like it could solve the problem?

Solution for lasting peace in the Middle East

26 November 2012 - 10:23 AM

First off I would like to state that I understand that there are dozens of topics on this subject but all of them revolve around the same issue and few if any of them that I have seen discuss options on how this conflict might end. At the end of the day we can argue who is right and who is wrong and use history to support our position but in 20 years we will most likely be seeing the same events playing out on a different day. Ultimately the cease fire between Hamas and Israel is no more then a ceasefire and has no chance of succeeding beyond that unless a long lasting solution could be found.

I would like to ask of people to discuss positive options for a long lasting solution rather than bring the arguments from the other threads in to this discussions.

For a long lasting peace I believe the solution has to come from Israel rather then the Palestinian side, mainly because in that conflict there are 3 sides the Palestinians, Israel and the terrorist organizations(Hamas etc...) and Hamas to destroy Israel and their existence and power comes from the fight against Israel and thus they do not benefit from peace. Israel can defeat Hamas militarily but with every defeat suffered by the terrorists they engineer it so that many civilians die in the conflict so as to guarantee a level of hate against Israel and a substantial pool of manpower for rebuilding and future conflicts. My belief is that the Palestinians are backing Hamas and other terrorist organizations because of the above mentioned actions where Hamas provokes Israel and hides behind civilians thus guaranteeing the everlasting hatred for the Israelis but also because they the Palestinians have nothing to lose but their lives and everything to gain even if the chance of victory is minuscule. For Israel to have peace they need to in a manner of speaking defeat the Palestinians and their will to fight while largely ignoring Hamas and the other terrorist organizations.

Now there are the obvious options to defeat the Palestinians, ethnic cleansing and genocide come to mind but they are drastic and monstrous “solutions” that solve nothing when the dust settles and in fact will most likely expand the conflict significantly. My belief is that Israel needs to give in to some of the requests of the Palestinian people and attach consequences for failing to stop the violence against Israel by Terrorist organizations, essentially have a carrot and a stick policy. To accomplish this there needs to be an arab nation willing and able to assist in this effort and the best nation to do that would be Egypt mainly because they are affected by this conflict, they could benefit tremendously by being part of the solution and they have great power to stop the flow of weapons in the area as they are the only other nation bordering the Gaza Strip.

By giving Palestinians something to lose, something they have not been able to gain through other means might just be the way to destroy their will to fight because they would have real results and can see a better future for themselves and their children and as a result would most likely do anything within their power to prevent the terrorist organizations such as Hamas from destroying it.

"no-zero" policy in schools

09 June 2012 - 07:56 AM

I don't know where I should post this, but my question to people here is do you agree with the no zero policy not specifically for the school in question but  the policy in general. I have received zero's when I didn't complete assignments or when I didn't show up for a test or an exam, and to me that prompted me to review my actions and improve. I don't see how we can expect anything from the future when kids are not held accountable for their actions, if you dsont complete an assignment you don't get the marks for said assignment just as when you don't do your work you don't get paid.

Conservatives Dominate 37/40 polls

28 May 2012 - 08:45 PM

Just saying.

http://www.electiona...election-polls/

Seems that polls have consistently been dominated by the conservatives since the election last year and we have a few years to go. Seems to me its too early for the NDP to be celebrating any victory when they are trailing most of the time.

Smith, 43, was being chased by police while driving a stolen van when he broadsided a car on Valentine's Day. The crashed killed 26-year-old Sara Attayee and injured five others.

Smith has been described as a serial carjacker and was convicted 193 times for thefts across the city before the fatal crash, including six involving police chases.

It is a tragedy that to lock this piece of human excrement a young women had to lose her life. And the saddest part is that this "maximum" sentence means he is eligible for parole in 10 years. This thing has shown beyond a shadow of a doubt that he cannot be helped, and he will not change, I say for him and those like him we need to lock him up and throw away the keys.
