In Topic: Ottawa posts $1.7-billion deficit in August

24 October 2008 - 09:40 AM

absolutely criminal...

wonder why this wasn't a topic at election time? i couldn't believe my ears and yet was not at all surprised two weeks after the election that "journalists" were talking raising the question "is a deficit really bad?"! all as a pre-cursor to a government (conservative is too good a word to use for these guys or republicans) whose manifesto is to sell countries to money lenders.

the cbc reports "On Friday, the Finance Department said August revenues were up by about $100 million, or 0.5 per cent, from August 2007, because of higher personal income tax but a lower corporate income tax, goods and services tax, and other sales and excise taxes."

thanks to those who vote for the rich!

There is, however, unanimity that a tax cut is preferred.  It's a breath of fresh air after years and years of Liberal tax grabs and nanny statism.

I only hope that once Harper gets his majority, he starts slicing off the accumulated fat and dismantling the welfare state.  Canadians need to relearn self-reliance after years of being encouraged to whine for hand-outs.

i always get a big laugh out of this kind of brain washed rhetoric! here in bc the entire costs of welfare account for .3% of the total provincial budget. you must be talking about the corporate welfare state! where huge income trusts that have billions in revenue pay no tax!

In Topic: Time to ditch Kyoto, experts urge

gald to hear that everyone agrees that _something_ needs to be done...

now we just need to vote with that desire and see _actual_ reductions in carbon emissions as the _only_ proof that government is doing something.

i'd like anyone to point out that i'm wrong, but the current recent feds have done nothing. its either the liberals who said that we were meeting kyoto but did nothing to actually attempt to meet it or the conservatives who say they will do nothing till 2050! i don't expect anything better from any other party until people start voting representatives out of office because they haven't met the desires of their constituents.

In Topic: Electric car maker charges Ottawa blocking its sale in Canada

i'll state what i believe to be the most important point in this matter again one more time and everyone can ponder it at length....

why are 'low speed' vechicles mandated by government to cap their speed at 40kmph!?

isn't it just a little fishy that that is the speed at which people will refrain from purchasing one? so say, if speeds were capped at 60kmph then wouldn't the possible market expand tremendously?

its seems pretty straight forward to me...

do we want to be a society that has the power to be inovative in our choices regarding personal transportation? do we want to take advantage of high technology and be cool!?

or do we want to be a society of tank drivers?!

how about the trex? (http://www.go-t-rex.com/) fastest thing on three wheels... with fuel economy!

again, we get 'golf carts' and 'tanks' because we aren't demanding better!
