Glossary of Terms
Here is a glossary of terms that are frequently used in discussions about electricity deregulation:

Distribution
The transmission of electrical power from distribution points to the final end-user, using a series of step-down transformers to lower the voltage level so that it is safe for customers to use.
Generation
The process of creating electricity by any of several means, including but not limited to hydro, nuclear power, coal-fired and gas fired, solar and wind power
Load
Energy demands on the system at any given time
Retail
Purchasing of smaller quantities of electricity from a distributor or a reseller to provide to end-users
Transmission
The bulk movement of large amounts of electrical power from generating facilities to major distribution points, using high voltage transmission lines and towers
Wholesale
The purchasing of bulk electricity by distributors, resellers, and large consumers directly from producers
