Quick Tips
- Make sure you check your spelling
- Search for all forms of the word.
Example: (politicians, politics, political, etc)
- Use the plus (+) and minus (-) signs to narrow your search.
Use the minus sign to indicate undesirable terms and use the plus
sign to tell the search engine a certain word or phrase is
required in the search results.
Example: A search for (Calgary -election) will return results
unrelated to elections in Calgary.
- Use wildcards (*) in your searches. Inserting wildcard
characters into your search will allow you to search for all
instances of that word, whether it be full or in part.
Example: Searching for (elect*) will return results for
(election, elect, electors, etc)
- Using multiple words will greatly increase your chance of
finding what you are searching for.
Example: Searching for (federal, election, results) will
return more results than just searching for (election)
- Use quotation marks. Placing " " around words will
search for an exact phrase.
For Example: Searching for ("Joe Clark") will return more
accurate results than just searching for (Joe Clark)
- Use field searches. If you are looking for a particular
instance where a word is used in the the document, you can place
the appropriate tag in front of the keyword separated by a colon
:. Searching for a specific document with Afghanistan in the
title, you insert this into the search field, title:Afghanistan.
Only the documents with Afghanistan in the title tag would be
returned.
Example:
title:about
desc:"Management Team"
keys:membership
body:privacy
alt:"join now"
url:news
target:contact
