 <title>Floyd Roland</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;Floyd Roland was elected the 11th premier of the Northwest Territories on October 18, 2007. He represents the riding of Inuvik Boot Lake.&lt;br /&gt;
Roland was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1995. During his time as a politician, he has served as Deputy Minister and also helmed important portfolios such as finance, health and social services, public works, human resources, housing and public utilities.&lt;br /&gt;
The Northwest Territories, like Nunavut, is built on a consensus model of government and operates within the principles of Canadian parliamentary democracy. All Members of the Legislative Assembly in the Northwest Territories are elected as independent members.&lt;br /&gt;
Prior to entering territorial politics, Roland served on the Inuvik Town Council for three years, including a term as the Deputy Mayor. He was chairman of the Inuvik Hunters and Trappers Committee, and president of the Western Arctic Tourism Association.&lt;br /&gt;
Born on November 23, 1961, Roland was educated in Inuvik. He studied auto mechanics at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Edmonton. Roland and his wife Shawna have five sons and one daughter. He has been actively involved with hockey in Inuvik, both as a minor league coach and as a player.&lt;/p&gt;
