Biography

Jay Makarenko is the Content Manager and Staff Writer at Mapleleafweb. He is currently working on his Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Alberta. He received his B.A. from Simon Fraser University (2001), and his M.A. from the University of Alberta (2002). His main field of interest is political philosophy, with a particular focus on contemporary liberal thought and theories of rights. His doctoral thesis focuses on judicial decisions regarding the right to freedom of expression under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Recent publications include “Liberal Conceptions of the Person: A Critical Perspective” in From Philosophy to Politics: Essays in the Memory of Dimitrios S. Panopalis.
