Olive Crane is leader of the Official Opposition and of the Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island. In March 2006, she won a by-election for District #2 Morell – Fortune Bay. She was re-elected in the 2007 provincial election, this time in the riding of District #7 Morell – Mermaid.
In addition to being the Opposition Leader, Crane serves as Opposition Critic for the portfolios of Health, Education, the Status of Women, and Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour.
Prior to entering politics, she was she was a career civil servant who began working for the provincial government in 1979. She has a wide range of knowledge thanks to her work in many departments, including Health & Social Services, the Office of the Attorney General, and Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture. She has also consulted on special projects for other provincial government departments. Outside her job, she has served as a board member on the National Council of Welfare and the Canadian Association of Education.
Crane was raised in rural Morell, PEI. In 1991, she received a degree in social work from Dalhousie University. She lives in Douglas Station with her husband Paul Affleck and their three children: Lindy, Drew and Lydia. The family owns a wild blueberry farm. Crane is an active community volunteer, including her time with the Morell and Area Soccer Club.
