  1. K, guys - I know you guys all appreciate my comments, given the enthusiastic responses and many "notifications" I get, but sadly - I have to get back to my real life.  Some of us do have to work, after all, so that Trumptards can be supported by the actual workers to spread their misinformation, conspiracy theories and just plain dumbness on social media platforms like this.  Have a great day, everyone.   :P

  2. Turns out Sweden's Covid response puts them on par with worst hit countries in death rate (UK, France, US) and their economy suffered more than almost anywhere in Europe.  Government officials have also misled their citizens, and the world, about their goals and the outcome of their plan.  True agenda and poor outcome is revealed through inter-governmental correspondence and contradicts public statements.

You should really look at up to date economic data.  You’ll realize you’re completely wrong.  Sweden is back to life before covid.

I watched it; how else would I know that it's a bunch of reassuring images?

How is an economic downturn the same or greater than neighbors, combined with more deaths than their neighbors, a "success", Shady.  Can you answer that?

Here's another reality-based examination of Sweden's response, from scientists and researchers within Sweden, which the  - https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/10/it-s-been-so-so-surreal-critics-sweden-s-lax-pandemic-policies-face-fierce-backlash.

In the population as a whole, the impact of Sweden’s approach is unmistakable. More than 94,000 people have so far been diagnosed with COVID-19, and at least 5895 have died. The country has seen roughly 590 deaths per million—on par with 591 per million in the United States and 600 in Italy, but many times the 50 per million in Norway, 108 in Denmark, and 113 in Germany.

From the International Monetary Fund, a paper examining the economic performance of Sweden's non-lockdown policy:

      Quote

By contrast, the economic ramifications of a less stringent containment strategy remain uncertain. As of September 2020, IMF staff, the Swedish authorities, the National Institute of Economic Research (NIER), and commercial banks all project a severe recession in Sweden, ranging from around -5 to -3 percent. Although the range of the projected contraction is less steep than the average forecast for advanced economies, it is not much different from some other Nordic countries.  In Sweden’s case, the evidence on erosion remains mixed, not least because GDP growth in 2020:Q2 was worse than in peers, while the cumulative performance in 2020:H1 remains relatively favorable.

And, as many resources I looked at have mentioned:

      Quote

We also argue that the economic impact of the containment strategy depends on social behavior, demographics and the structure of the economy, and it is still premature to judge the outcome of Sweden’s containment strategy as it will depend on developments in the next quarters.

The full story is not yet written, but so far there seems no particularly upside to Sweden's approach.

  3. Found out this morning, reading Politico, that Trump never did say "The virus is a Democratic hoax."  Instead, he said that the Democrat's criricism of how he handled the virus was foisting a hoax on Americans.

Think I'll refer to Politico more often when trying to filter information from misinformation.

Snopes also says Trump never called the virus a hoax, so despite claims here that Snopes can't be trusted, I'll keep Snopes as reference as well.  The more sources, the better.

Now, it seems, Biden has undergone a dramatic transformation on the issue, lauding the Supreme Court for its decision in June Medical Services v. Russo.

“Women’s health care rights have been under attack as states across the country have passed extreme laws restricting women’s constitutional right to choice under any circumstance,” Biden said in a statement. “Today the U.S. Supreme Court reaffirmed that states cannot put in place laws that unduly burden a women’s right to make her own health care decision with her doctor.”

Biden/Harris have only said they want to codify Roe vs. Wade, which leaves the States free to set their own laws regarding abortion once the fetus is viable.

Which mean...... Biden/Harris will support late-term and partial abortion should the state make it their law!

  5. Trump goes back to White House.  Seems clear he was never sick, just pulling some BS.  Trump organization owns stock in Gilead and Regeneron, which developed the drugs that were supplied to him and will no doubt be touted as saving his life, thus driving up stock value.

But he'll need the money since he owes $400,000 million dollars around the world, all coming due in the next four years.  Plus the penalties he'll get for tax evasion.

Leaving hospital after only 3 days of covid treatment seemed wrong to me.  Figure someone truly sick wouldn't do that.

But I just saw clips of him struggling to breathe after arriving back at WH.  Maybe he shoulda stayed in hospital.

    3. betsy

      betsy

Why should he stay in the hospital?

You think they wouldn't be giving him top notch care at the White House?

Trump is not an ordinary person.   He is a head of state.   Kindly wrap our heads around that and stop comparing him with others having covid!  You bet he's getting well and above the kind of care ordinary people get!

Lol, I heard of people being turned away from the hospital unless they're really struggling to breathe - and here's Trump with hardly any symptoms showing, and you gets get all hysterical just because he went home! Freakin' unreal!

  6. Live Update: Doc says Trump doing well, no oxygen today, no fever for 24 hours.  Critical time is 7 to 10 days, but today he's improving from yesterday.  Won't give specifics as to how sick he was, or specifics on tests.  Will continue with Remesdivir for five days.  Everybody except the doc speaking wearing a mask.  Trump might have been on oxygen while at the White House, reading between the lines of what doc said.

I hope he recovers because dying would be a disaster for the US, in my opinion.

But I don't trust what comes out of the WH, so why would anyone put out the info that he's doing so much worse than what his docs say?

As to the other notification, if you don't know how that's done, my shift on the techie helpline is over.

He's not a tax cheat, you still haven't cited which provision in the tax code he violated.  The IRS gets his tax returns every year, and he's audited every year.  But let me guess, you know more about the U.S. tax code than the IRS right!? 😄

I'm not saying I think he's lily white, I'm sure he isn't but the IRS so far hasn't charged him and I don't believe that they would hold back if they had something.  Trump can't do anything about them, in fact I think he is under investigation, so if they find he cheated, they will charge him.

Sure Trump gets rid of people who oppose him, so does Trudeau.

But the guy who donates his entire $400,000 salary every year is "stealing" from the American taxpayer.  Actually I think he is losing a lot of income, wouldn't be surprised if he goes broke.

I guess Amazon is "broke" too, and committing "tax fraud."    It's called writing off business expenses because of expansion, thus reducing the overall taxable revenue.

  22. These two things confuse me:

    1.  People on disability/social assistance will get $300 more per month starting on April 22, because of the covid crisis; it's automatic no application required.  I have no problem with paying them more, but I'm confused as to why the government thinks they need it more now than during normal times.  Unlike many people, they still have an income -pittance though it be.

    2.  BCGEU wants to trigger the "me too" clause that says if one segment of the public sevice gets more money, everyone does.  All government employees are considered essential service, but nurses are getting extra because they're on the front lines.  I would think that just being able to work through this is good enough; most government employees aren't exposed to the public since most/all offices have been closed, at least in my sector.  So, in my opinion, this is unnecessary and not the right time to be asking for more money.

    1.  Source - overheard on a Ministry phone line recording;

It's an income redistribution policy.  None of any of this equates to people laid of due to Coronavirus.  Some welfare queens are taking home $4000 per month, while some working people are getting are getting half that.  A part-time worker and a logger or miner will get the exact same amount (children notwithstanding).

  23. US literally steals mask shipments sent from China and destined for Germany and Canada.  Then they tell Anerican producers to stop sending masks to Asia and Canada.  No doubt Canadian supporters of Trump will support this, while calling Trudeau a "traitor"; the irony.

I'm starting to hope this virus kills as many Trump supporters as possible, starting with Trump himself.  Not all Republicans and not all conservatives, mind you, just the immoral, unethical lying sacks of shit that Trump and his followers are.

    1. Shady

      Shady

They “literally “ didn’t steal anything.  You don’t steal something that you pay for.  More fake news.

  24. Interesting article on how poltical polarization influences response to life-threatening pathogens.  Liberals were less concerned about Ebola in 2013-2014 than Conservatives, and now with Covid-19, the reverse is true.  I guess we were just lucky that Ebola isn't as contagious and never made it around the world.

Anyway, moral seems to be that people are inclined to pick a team and stick with it come hell or high highwater, even going so far as to distort reality.
