  1. Stephen Harper and his Conservatives have racked up dozens of serious abuses of power since forming government in 2006. From scams to smears, monkey-wrenching opponents to intimidating public servants like an Orwellian gorilla, some offences are criminal, others just offend human decency Last week we published 59 examples in two parts, and asked our readers to suggest any we may have missed. Among the many suggestions we gratefully received, we concluded that 11 more meet the criteria for "abuses of power." Today we compile all 70 items into one omnibus of abuse by the Stephen Harper government. This list is now also available as a tablet-friendly pdf which you can download for free here. Thanks, once more, to friends of The Tyee who helped with this list. https://thetyee.ca/Opinion/2015/08/10/Harper-Abuses-of-Power-Final/

  3. And there’s no question that, since coming to office in 2006, the Conservative government has cut taxes. But they’ve mostly been the wrong taxes, cut for the wrong reasons. Tax cuts aren’t just about reducing the overall tax burden on citizens — although that is important. But cutting the right taxes at the right times can spur economic growth, employment, savings rates. Cutting the wrong taxes can end up accomplishing nothing at all — beyond robbing the state of the revenue it needs to do its work, and winning a few points in the polls, short-term. Back in 2004, the Department of Finance put together a working paper entitled ‘Taxation and Economic Efficiency’, which concluded that cutting taxes on savings and investment yield higher efficiency gains for the economy than cutting taxes on consumption. So the worst possible tax cut you could contemplate would be one which affects consumption only — like a cut to the GST. So much for expert advice; the Harper government cut the GST by one point in 2006 and another point in 2007. This reduced government revenues by about $14 to $15 billion annually, roughly $110 billion over the past nine years. Oddly enough, this lost revenue accounts for about 80 per cent of the increase in federal public debt over that period. Over the 10 years between budget 2006 and budget 2014, and including the PM’s “family tax package” announcements of October 2014, tax measures introduced by the Harper government have cost the treasury almost $332 billion. That’s equal to almost 17 per cent of annual GDP and almost one-half of total federal debt. https://ipolitics.ca/2015/02/23/mr-harpers-taxing-troubles/

(Sean Kilpatrick/Canadian Press) Prime Minister Stephen Harper went ATVing today...on the runway at Tuktoyaktuk. He took off, and left his RCMP detail in the dust. They then chased him. Two officers on ATVs, and some more in pickup trucks. Harper roared up and down the Tuktoyaktuk airport runway. He was going very fast. His security detail continued to chase him. When asked if he had a licence to drive an ATV, especially on a runway, Harper said, "I think I make the rules." He was clearly very pleased.

  10. http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/sean-casey/harper-debt-economy_b_3976972.html look back at previous posts...here it is again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! banned for what reason..because you don't like facts?
  11. • Fact: Between 1996-97 and 2005-06, the Liberal government paid $81.4-billion against the national debt. • Fact: The federal debt in the fiscal year 1996-97 was $562.9-billion. By the time the Liberals left office in 2006, it was reduced to $481.5-billion • In contrast, by the year 2014-15, the Conservatives will have added $176,400,000,000 to the national debt. Let me say that again, Stephen Harper has added and will add $176,400,000,000 to our debt. • Fact: The Conservative federal debt in 2008-09 = $457.6-billion. • Fact: The expected Conservative debt in 2014-15 = $634.0-billion (forecasted). • Fact: 24% of the total accumulated debt since Confederation was amassed under Stephen Harper, this just since 2008.
  12. If it wasn't for Obama and our liberals of Chretien and Martin....you would be driving the roads looking for road kill to feed your Family
  13. • . and the only reason Harper had his first 2 years of no deficits is because the liberal polocies were still bringing in revenue besides the 14.6 billion he left in the PMO For him....lol
  14. • Stephen Harper has managed to turn 10 consecutive federal budget surpluses of the Martin-Chretien era into 7 straight consecutive deficits. • Stephen Harper has the worst record of economic growth of any Prime Minister since RB Bennett and the great depression. • Under Stephen Harper, household debt has exploded. The average household debt-to-income ratio (i.e., the amount of debt the average Canadian household owes for every dollar of their annual disposable income) has risen from $1.31 to $1.64 -- which is where the United States was before the housing market crashed. • A significant contributor to household debt can be traced to rising housing prices. Mr. Harper's finance minister, Jim Flaherty, helped fuel the housing bubble with his irresponsible introduction of 40-year mortgages with zero down-payment. http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/sean-casey/harper-debt-economy_b_3976972.html
  15. you don't understand...how can I put it to you....it takes at least 2 or 3 years in office to for Mulroneys massive spending policies to be changed by a new government take over....A new leader cant just stop paying for Mulroneys bad decisions....what was his average... 40 billion dollar deficit per year??? .do you under stand?...and if you look at how long it took for Harper to start the conservative deficit bleeding again.....
  16. It is already 65% to that Trillion dollar mark .....Thanks to Mr Harper and Mr Mulroney!!!!!!!......wait till Truedeau fixes Harpers bleeding.......its only costing us 57.2 million per day.....ohhhhhh!!!!......that's were our job creating infrastructure went!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. I have a feeling if the Beer and Cola and other Companies that use a lot of Aluminum may turn around and build their plants in Canada to save on costs such as the car manufacturers keep moving to Mexico because of the low labour costs.... I might be a blessing in Disguise! Beer Companies can turn their existing factories for bottling..they can come to Canada to do the canning...The beverages companies are almost all made from Aluminum...Maybe Trump is cancelling nafta ....to re-negotiate a...TFTD. Trump Free Trade Deal...and steel and aluminum could be in there for negotiating...He is really after the countries that Dump steel into the US
  18. And you can tell me when any conservative balanced a budget!!! ANY!!!!! maybe your mistaking them for Mr. Chretien...but he is not conservative!!!!
  19. @Accountability Now I did read the article ...Can you show me what year the Conservatives balanced a budget PLEASE!!!!! Show Me

I am listening!!!!!! show me how smart you are!!!!!! lol by the way...Conservatives are Republicans.....They just cut corporate taxes....don't you find that Pierre poutine Harper is very similar to Trump!!! They lie just as much!!!!!
  21. 23. @Accountability Now hehehehehe....you don't quite understand do you...let me refresh you on how policy works...we still have to pay for those policies Mr. Pocket Mulroney imposed on us...did I not tell you ...you cant snap your fingers and correct such bad policies that gouge our country...and Justin Trudeau has to put of with Pierre Poutines Bleeding... It is just till he fixes it...hehehehehehehe But I must admit that following through on that policy that the Republic Conservatives spent so much money on a different way to pay the government employes. it should of been a policy Justin Trudeau should of scraped when he first got elected
  24. @ Impact That would be Prime minister Pierre Poutine Harper..only it was 14.6 billion...then a deficit of 56 Billion...and a corp tax cut of 60 billion...no wonder our highways are Dangerous
