I never said they didn't.  I said arbitrary half-assed ones don't work. Trump proved that with 17000 deaths and counting.

Did I say 17000? I forgot how contagious it is, how quickly numbers increase when things spread exponentially,  and just how stupid and irresponsible those Trump tweets were. Over 20,000 now. :(

I know what your problem is now? You appear to be suffering from what is now being called CVS(Covid Virus syndrome). As I have said here many times. I do not know of anyone, family or friends, who have gotten this "highly contagious" hoax of a virus. But I will bet that you know dozens who have, right? I await!

No, in Manitoba we have a competent Conservative government that took this seriously from the start and now we are seeing fewer active cases every day.

No, that’s incorrect.  Given the numbers, infections could be multiples worse if infected peoples were allowed to enter the country.  Or are you suggesting that travel from Europe and China should resume?

I'm saying that arguing that the chain link held back some of the water is kind of pointless when the water is spreading everywhere anyway.

There’d be even more cases of the virus had hundreds of thousands of people from infected countries been allowed to travel to the United States.  In March and April.

Given numbers indicate the U.S. is the worst shitshow on the planet in terms of the propagation of this virus so far, and Canada is mainly suffering because of its proximity to that shitshow, it's hard to imagine it could have been more poorly managed. But yes, perhaps it could have been.

There was nothing arbitrary about the travel restrictions.  And of course they work to some extent.  It’s another way of practicing mitigation, the furthest end of social distancing.  Don’t let your hatred for Trump get in the way of logic and reason.

Cutting off travel from Europe but not the UK is arbitrary. And useless, as proven by the number of U.S. cases today.

Bet anything that you switch the topic.

Weak, arbitrary travel bans are completely useless. It's like making a dyke out of chain link fence. If you're serious,  you suspend all international travel and put everyone coming in in quarantine for 2 weeks.

Only a few countries responded appropriately and the U.S. and Canada aren't among them.

The WHO was grossly irresponsible.  Their actions had a influence on how other countries around the world responded to the virus.  Especially Europe.

"The WHO can only react to the data it's given, and when you go back and look at the timeline, it wasn't until, I think, almost the middle of January that China reported that there was human-to-human transmission." - Dr. Deborah Birx

I don't need to look any smarter BubberMIley. That is your problem.

I see I hurt your feelings by explaining to you how wrong you are again. One day maybe you'll even say something  you will be able to back up and defend, rather than just resort to insults because you feel humiliated

I'm just left wondering if anyone is really stupid enough to think it's not highly contagious.

Nope.  You’re lying.  Flat out lying.  Trump didn’t disassemble anything, that’s been fact-checked and debunked.  However

After the swine flu epidemic in 2009, a safety-equipment industry association and a federally sponsored task force both recommended that depleted supplies of N95 respirator masks, which filter out airborne particles, be replenished by the stockpile, which is maintained by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

That didn’t happen, according to Charles Johnson, president of the International Safety Equipment Assn.

I assume you didn't cite the "debunking" because it doesn't exist and you know that.

You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about, BubberMiley which is no surprise.

Highly contagious you say? Doesn’t that take away your concern about the death ratio, since the number of dead are known and the more people who have it, the lower the percentage who get it and die.

The virus is bad enough, despite being similar to influenza but the question is why don’t we shut the planet down for it. Because shutting down everything only provides a minimal return, compared to more selective but less socially harmful measures than this nonsense.

The planet is shut down because it's highly contagious. The more people get it at once, the higher the death rate because hospitals become overwhelmed. You have a choice: economic collapse with thousands of deaths, or economic collapse with millions of deaths.

You can continue to blather nonsensical misinformation from last month's FoxNews reports, but it doesn't make you look any smarter.

Businesses still haven’t received relief.  Individuals still haven’t received relief.  AND ITS BEEN OVER A MONTH.  He fiddles while Rome burns!

You're just outright lying. The cheques are being deposited in bank accounts as we speak. That's why the lineups at Costco today are ridiculous.

Obama left the strategic stockpile empty.

You're just outright lying. Obama assembled a pandemic response team. Trump disassembled it, saying he didn't like the idea of paying people to plan for a pandemic when there is no pandemic and that it would be cheaper to just hire them when there is a pandemic.

  13. 34 minutes ago, OftenWrong said:

Numbers such as ratios of dead to survived, etc are very difficult to compare between this disease and the flu. The only real comparator is the number dead. Dead men tell all the tales.

It is extremely contagious because it is a novel virus. Without social distancing,  we could potentially have millions and millions of people infected all at once. That's all you really need to know, but being a Trumper you might still have a hard time with basic facts.

  14. 6 minutes ago, OftenWrong said:

That’s why the flu kills ten times more than we currently have counted, year after year. It is a bigger deal than this in fact, yet we don’t care.

”We” being ordinary people who don’t work in health care and never hear about these outbreaks. They occur every year on the scale you are seeing now.

It's not surprising to me that Trumpers would still not understand how this virus is dangerous because of how contagious it is. But what about car accidents?

  15. The only logical explanation for his single-minded focus on that snake oil is he has some kind of stake in it and will profit from it. Of course, his supporters will coo about how entrepreneurial he was in trying to help out.

Yesterday in his infomercial about the drug, he even refused to allow Fauci to answer a question about its dangers. An obvious grift if I ever saw one.
