  1. Oh my goodness. The VP's son took trips years ago and had secret service protection?

Did you know the current president's son-in-law was denied security clearance because of his questionable foreign entanglements, particularly in Saudi Arabia, but they ignored that and gave him clearance anyway? Then he was put in charge of the coronavirus response, which turned put to be the worst response of any country in the world. And he has no relevant experience or competence. All he does is bang Ivanka, which makes the president look up to him.

My scandal beats your scandal by a mile.

Seriously? All this is coming from the Left. I never proposed a perfect unanimity from the Left. Lately the Left has been eating itself, attacking its own members for lack of purity, as in the Lewis complaint about the ferocious attacks on Margarete Atwood and JK Rowling. We could say the same of their hatred for Meghan Murphy. This is something we see in a lot of angry revolutionary type

I guess if you consider "the Left" comprising the vast majority of the political spectrum,  you're right.

Now even that venerable old NDP warhorse Stephen Lewis is starting to feel troubled at the way angry progressive shut down debate and mob anyone who dares to disagree with them. Mind you, he seems mostly upset when they do it to other left wingers...

Why, it's almost like it isn't the "Left" at all. That premise was confusing when you used it to describe the oil company Stockwell Day worked for and Telus Mobility. I'm starting to think it's just a catch-all term used by people with a limited political lexicon and that it actually means nothing in this context.

  4. Probably the same catch as most games. If you want to make it to the end, you'll likely need to spend real money on in-game spells or powers or whatever.

Also, they take your personal information and immortal soul. It's in the licence agreement.

YUGE jobs report!  Record 2.5 million jobs in May!  No wonder the Dems wanted the lockdowns to continue.  June's jobs report is gonna be even bigger!

I was waiting for you to update your post since it was revealed to be fake news. I forgot you think retractions are fake news and sticking with lies is not.

Actually has a big chance. Drooling morons will vote for him.

You realize Biden is further right than the CPC, don't you? Look at his record in the Senate. Look at his positions on incarcerating young black men for drug crimes. He has always been in line with moderate Republicans like John McCain throughout his whole career.

Oh right. Actual facts don't register here. I forgot.

So why don't you just admit that you were wrong, and this isn't a pandemic of biblical proportions, instead of switching topics?

Do you think that people didn't try to stay away from others during the plague?

Have you ever heard the common adage: "Avoid it like the plague"?

Because I didn't say that. I said your argument supports continuing our successful social distancing efforts because we've managed to keep the numbers well below biblical proportions. There is no way mass communication was sophisticated enough to nip a virus in the bud back then. It's silly to even try to compare.

Towns of healthy people where almsot everyone is dying = biblical proportions.

Towns where no one even knows anyone who died - covid 19. Do you actually know anyone who died? Does anyone you know know anyone who died of covid?

On avg 7,700 Americans die every day. Since Jan 31 that's over 800,000 people that would have died in a normal year. A lot of the 100,000 that died from covid would have been part of the 800,000 anyways.

So yes, the social distancing strategy is working. Trumper logic suggests that's a reason to stop it.

That's why they're Trumpers. Because logic isn't a strong suit.

According to NY stats, only 0.7% of the people who died of covid were known to not have any "pre-existing medical conditions". Undoubtedly some, most or maybe even all of the 0.7% were heavy smokers, drinkers, or drug addicts, they just fall into this category because didn't have diabetes, cancer, heart disease, kidney disease, etc.

Do you know what percentage of the population has a known preexisting medical condition? Did you know that all of them are actual human people?

Major plagues kill a lot of very healthy people.

Covid-19 kills almost 0% of very healthy people.

I haven't heard of a healthy 28 yr old dying from covid yet.

The Spanish flu killed about 2-3% of the people on earth, and not everyone got it. That means that the infected death rate was much higher than 2-3%. Healthy 28 yr olds were one of the hardest hit groups.

You aren't paying very close attention.

No, I’m advocating opening up everything, but adhering to mitigation and distancing measures, like masks, gloves if necessary, washing hands, using hand sanitizer before entering stores or restaurants or bars etc.  People that are high risk should probably avoid such places.  I will admit to being partially wrong.  It looks like there probably will be a vaccine.  Possibly as early as September/October.

Isn't that what we're doing? Nobody disagrees with you, except of course the Trumpers who think it's a Democrat hoax and therefore are fighting the mitigation efforts you espouse.

We flattened the curve, and made sure hospitals weren’t overwhelmed.  That was the point.  It wasn’t shut down until there’s a vaccine.  The goalposts have been moved.  Btw, there might never be a vaccine.  If you expect people to live this way indefinitely you’re insane.  Especially for a virus that if you’re healthy and under 65, has a minuscule chance of killing you.  The whole world has lost it’s freaking mind.

I got a haircut last week, so who expects things to be shut down until there's a vaccine? You shut it down until you can contain it and you have the resources to test and contact trace outbreaks, as we have in Manitoba. Once again, you're inventing an opponent to debate with where none exist.

Unless, of course, you're advocating that we just throw it all out the window and let a significant portion of the population die while still enjoying all the economic devastation.

I get that we have a responsibility to do the right things to protect the vulnerable now, and I'm happy to wear a mask when necessary to do that, but the current iteration of covid is not comparable with the major plagues any more than the common cold is comparable with stage 4 cancer.

It hasn't sunk in that this isn't a major plague because our efforts to prevent that are working?

The fact you dont get it is no surprise. You are free to stay in your rabbit hole all summer, if you're afraid the virus "might mutate". Me, I'm gong outside like I have done every day since this started.

Me, and all the other people who kept working.

Say, did you notice how many grocery store clerks had to work also, none wear masks and people milling through the store each day? So where is the outbreak, supergenius?

I don't have to stay inside because we took it seriously in time and brought the numbers down to zero. We can't be complacent but now we can do what we want without jeopardizing the lives of thousands of people. The lack of an outbreak here proves to me that our shutdown efforts work, not that they were unnecessary.

  15. 24 minutes ago, OftenWrong said:

Not normally. When they mutate these respiratory viruses often fall apart. So while there is no way to be "certain" what it will do, there is no point in hiding while we wai for something to mutate. You might also get hit by a bus tomorrow, does that mean everyone should stay home now?

That's foolish. Getting hit by a bus isn't extremely contagious.
