  1. Do we have an air raid siren?

Japan woke up to air raid siren when NKorea launched a missile.

      betsy

Uh-oh.  Looks like most of them are gone.

      Quote

A bit of research and I found out that most were removed by the Department of National Defence (DND) back in the 1970s because they were rusting and becoming eyesores. The Federal Government had no money to maintain them. These sirens had been installed back in the 50s as part of the cold war effort to be prepared for air raids. Those sirens would give about twenty minutes advanced warning for people to take shelter in case of an enemy attack.

Apparently there are a few left, some web sites show two in Toronto and a few in BC. DND admitted in an interview to the Toronto Star in 2007, that some may have been missed from the inventory. In fact, there was controversy as to who actually owned them. The Star called the City of Toronto, who referred them to the Province, who referred them to DND, who referred them back to the City of Toronto.

There was a time when the sirens made sense and the investment was justified. Times change however, and technology advances require us to constantly revisit the premise upon which we made a decision. In emergency management, much has changed as well. I started my emergency management career by having to pull out the emergency plan once a year, turn to the telephone list, and call everyone to make sure the phone numbers were still valid. Back then a blackberry was a fruit, a cell was a living organism, and a network was a social organization.

For the types of missiles they are talking about nowadays pretty sure a siren won't help much.

"Angela Merkel admits that 'no-go zones' exist in Germany

Conservatives and populists have long warned of the existence of such zones as the partial consequence of mass Muslim migration from the Middle East and Africa, particularly after Merkel opened Germany’s borders in 2015 as a response to the Syrian refugee crisis. Such areas are said to be dogged by high-levels of crime and are described as "no-go zones" because outsiders, including police and other authorities, are unable to enter.

“Today, it seems this taboo has been broken. Guess who is talking about ‘no-go zones’?” a blog post on the Hungarian government’s official website said. "

  15. Freeland - frozen from the White House!   That's the revelation of a guest by CBC (Frank Buckley)....and by the looks and sound of the anchorwoman, it was  unexpected info.   Buckley basically called Freeland, "stupid."

"You don't show your despise for the person you're trying to negotiate with!"

Apparently, there was an interview of Freeland (can't recall what magazine) where-in she talked like the Washington Post!

She was frozen out of the White House.  She does regional circuit - but that's just about it.  Send someone who can negotiate.

Harper gets it...Freeland doesn't and wants to live in the past, with the Americans bearing most of the post WW2 burden.

"Recent tensions between Canada and the Trump administration have jolted Canadian officials and commentators to the fact that the United States is moving toward a new model of global engagement rooted in unabashed self-interest. Many who are accustomed to the United States assuming a major share of resources and responsibilities are astonished. But they shouldn’t be. That game is over and may never resume. The deck has been reshuffled. Canadian policy makers need to be ready to play their hand on behalf of Canadian interests. "

  16. Well, these products are quite so HIGHLY PROCESSED -  who knows what chemicals goes in them -  to make them what they're not!

Lol, suddenly processed food and stuffing yourself with who-knows-what, is okay!  Just shows how they think people are so stupid!

Products geared to combat  climate change are part and parcel of this new industry!  Capitalizing on Climate Change - that's the point of all these!

With Climate Change comes the "need!"   They're creating and peddling needs on the back of fear-mongering.  Satisfying those needs from light bulbs to solar, etc...... is just the new way to make billions $!

She's planning to stick around at least, until the age of 90.  Nothing wrong with that.....

Oh, man.....BUT when you start nodding off like that.......in the courtroom......while supposedly listening to court proceedings........:)...that doesn't look like a picture of "hale."

      That optic isn't good.

It shouldn't be left to old judges to determine when they want to retire.  When you're dispensing justice -  you've got to be truly.......awake!

It can't be helped to question if the judge can truly follow everything that's being said in the courtroom.

The only thing keeping her in that seat, is for political reasons and partisanship.   There is immense pressure on her.  She dare not retire while a Republican - especially Trump - is sitting President!

The spirit may be willing and gungho - but the physical looks worn out.

She should be graciously asked to step down.....

Btw, there is rumor floating around that she gave a statement and said she's retiring on Jan 2019.   I don't know if that's fake news.
