Oh, this is going to be funny (and humiliating for us). I can just see Harper having Diefenbakeresque fits about Obama.

Uh-huh...it's already humiliating because if Americans were deemed SO STUPID for re-electing Bush, what does that make Canadians ??

Gee, I don't know if President Obama will be able to work with those warmonger global warming "NeoCons" in Ottawa. The world is now less safe...(sobbing).

One thing about Obama, he seems to be able to relate to the person he's talking to and he's a very intelligent person and I wish we had someone like him here in Canada. He did say he wants to review the NAFTA with Canada, that is parts of it and so I hope Harper choses someone that knows something about trade and the law.

I'll say this again.

The CPC is much closer to the Democrats than the Republicans on pretty much everything. The other parties in Canada are far too left wing to have much in common with any party in the USA.

EDIT- Don't believe the talking heads or the pundits. Go and read the Democratic platform. You'll see.

You don't think that Stephen Harper is intelligent?

What other parties? You mean the ones that the media doesn't acknowledge and are excluded from the debates?

Any politician who says the economy is sound right in the middle of a world financial crisis doesn't sound too bright to me.

Has the Canadian economy collapsed? Are our banks failing? Have we seen near the problems of the other major industrialized countries? The fundamentals of the economy are strong. I haven't really seen an economist that says otherwise.

Any politician running for PRIME MINISTER who says the sky is falling right in the middle of a world financial crisis - a crisis that has not gripped us yet - not only doesn't sound too bright to me, but he only hurt us more by causing unnecessary panic! People and investors scramble to take their money out!

One of the roles of a nation's leader is to prevent such panic.

Sorry, but he made himself look stupid and he paid for that idiotic remark at the polls. Maybe you guys just fell of turnip truck but most Canadians I know haven't.

The only politician who looked like he "just fell off the turnip truck" was Dion.

Now let us be fair with our analysis of appearances shall we:

Stephen Harper- fat boy computer geek

Gilles Duceppe: Vampire, drunk undertaker

Stephane Dion: sickly boy computer geek

Ms. May: schitzophrenic homeless person bag lady.

Honourable mentions:

Bob Rae: the mating result of Bugs Bunny and the Angry Martian

Peter McKay: Camel

Jim Flaherty: Nazi Munchkin

Dr. Ignatieff: James Bond with severe hemmeroids

There now. It is important we be fair.

Is it just companies taking advantage of the situation? The car companies and subsidaries are now hiring by contract only or at least Honda is. If you have a contract and want a job then take $11 an hour or leave. Some can but a lot of family men can't So what is this. just opportunistic capitalists?

Most of the Canadians you know are socialists, Marxists are hardly the voice of reason.

Personally I think both of you are wrong. I'm a financial advisor and I would suggest that the Canadian economy, while fundamentally stronger than the US is going to slump because it is tied in no small degree to the US markets. If the US housing market slumps, the canadian forest industry slumps...if Americans don't drive the Canadian oil and auto industries slump, etc. Like it or not we rely heavily on exports to drive our economy, and a good percentage (I do not offhand know this number) of that export is to the US.

Stephen Harper is right in the sense that the Canadian economic system is much stronger than that of the US because we do not have the credit crisis that the US does and our policies are much better. Moreover for anyone who understands the nature of capitalism, where there are investment dollars there's investment and where there's investment there's business, where there's business there are jobs...etc. Unfortunately, much of our investment dollars come from foreign investors, which again ties our economy to global markets and foreign sources of capital (lenders).
