USS George H. W. Bush (CVN-77) Commissioned

Recommended Posts

The last Nimitz class supercarrier was commissioned today at Norfolk, VA. Named for President George H. W. Bush, he got to attend his namesake's commissioning ceremony:

It was sunny, but a chilly breeze blew across the deck of the ship as the president, his father and their wives got off the helicopter with their wives. The elder Bush, sporting a purple scarf inside his overcoat, walked with a cane from the helicopter to a golf cart. He got in the back seat with former first lady Barbara Bush;
the president grinned
and waved as he took the driver's seat with his wife by his side.

Due next.....the Gerald R. Ford class supercarrier for 2015. These instruments of power projection have been a US mainstay since WW2, and there is no sign of a policy change or reduced faith in sea power.
