Liberals Falsely Slander Harper: Communion Host

Recommended Posts

You must be kidding. Fife was one of the first to start salivating and jump on the bandwagon when the story originally broke - and now you're saying that he is lying? Based on what?

Fife seems to jump on any story.

It is interesting to note that accusations naming the Liberals as being responsible for this are being toned down. The threat of a lawsuit usually does that.

The constant refrain that Tories are the only party of logic and not guided by emotions is unsupported. It is also quite predictable.

The constant refrain that the Liberals are the sleaziest party of gutter crawling vermin in Canadian politics is predictable, too, as is your sanctimonious defense of them.

What is lost in the discussion is that at the time wafergate hit the national media, Harper was in Italy, receiving favourable press for his performance at the G8. In the Romeo Leblanc funeral thread I asked who would benefit the most from the overblown and over reported alleged Harper communion gaffe? It's plain as day that the Liberals needed to have something, anything, to detract from the positive news coming out of the G8. There's nothing wrong with this on a tactical political level, but for goodness sake not to the point of fabricating and twisting facts, and feeding them to the media.

Speaking of Liberal bias (or bias against Harper if you like) in the media, I recall a big deal was also made by Fife and company about because Harper was a few seconds late for a G8 photo. Hell, Obama was later to show up than Harper but not a peep by the media about that. It's despicable that some Liberals capitalized on a solemn funeral for an accomplished Liberal to smear the PM. It shows a total lack of respect for one who has done so much for the Liberal party. Instead of talking about LeBlanc's many life accomplishments, they shifted the focus fully as to whether Harper consumed or concealed a communion wafer.

Dominic LeBlanc was clearly disappointed about the to do about the media reports.

New Brunswick Liberal MP Dominic LeBlanc, son of the former governor general, said the Conservative prime minister should not be criticized for taking part in a Catholic rite.

"Mr. Harper made a very generous gesture in coming to Memramcook for my father's funeral," LeBlanc told the Telegraph Journal.

"And I know that my father would - as I do - regret that his attendance at the funeral would in any way lead to any embarrassment to him."

Canadians are looking for policy from the Liberals, not opportunistic vendettas to smear Harper and the Conservatives with unfounded accusations.

So exactly what constitutes Fife being a Liberal supporter? And how could you tell that Duffy was a Conservative supporter?

Apperently you have never listen to what they are saying and asking for questions.

Most times, I wouldn't care. Personally, I follow the example of those around me - if they take it right away, so do I. If they wait till everyone has theirs, I follow suit.

Catholics are different though. The wafer isn't a symbol, so it's treated differently. He should have done what everyone else did and eaten it right away. There should have been no doubt what he did with it.

Who are you to say how he should worship.

There are few beasts as violent as a cornered Liberal.

How about a cornered Conservative Party? This is nothing compared to two years of moronic "Not A Leader" ads.

When in Rome and all. If you're at your own church, do whatever you're comfortable with. When in someone else's, respect their customs.

This was not a church service it was a funeral, i would love to see you say that to muslim or jew, your as- er butt would be hauled in front of a human rights commision so fast, you'd be asking Mr Scott what warp number you hit.

I didn't say it was a church service, but since you want to go there, it was a Catholic funeral mass, was it not?

If I went to a Muslim or Jewish service, I wouldn't be receiving communion, so that's a silly statement at best. If you're referring to other customs.... I'd make darn good and sure I knew what was expected of me ahead of time. I'd ask, and if I wasn't sure, i'd keep my butt parked in the pew.

What really concerns me is that a political party and professional journalists allegedly colluded to fabricate a lie and it was reported as fact. It's typical of the left to never accept responsibility for their actions, to continue to smear Harper is indicative of the immaturity that is rife in the Modern Liberal Party. I suspect the bloggers will find out who allegedly constructed the fabrication.

I'm fed up with Harper and his socialist spending via buying shares in GM without public consult but this kind of smear tactic from behind the scenes has become the liberal war room MO. The Conservative ads are paid for by the party and they used Iggy's own words, they didn't fabricate an entire lie and then publish it as fact.

Why would that get anyone hauled to the Human Rights Comission? It's not a hate crime to ask someone to obey customs in a place of worship. We're not even talking about a minority, in the case of the church, which claims a sect of the largest religion in Canada, or the Prime Minister, who happens to be one of the most priveledged people in the whole country.

The constant refrain of frothy, spittle flecked, purple faced, teeth clenched, eye bulging furious right wingers that there is a conspiracy against them is predictable in almost every way.

Why is that Lily? Should Harper have been able to foresee that someone would write a fictitious article?

And lets not forget that Harper was also meeting with the Pope.....and the media was still harassing him with this story. As Harper said - it was a low point in Canadian journalism and an embarrassment to Canada. Everything - absolutely everything points to at best Liberal sympathizers and at worst, the Liberal Party hijacking the newspaper through the Irving boy. Dobbin's denials notwithstanding, it's pathetic.

Nonsense - much of that so-called "favourable" press you speak of was about Harper's misguided attack against Ignatieff... bringing a Canadian domestic squabble to the G8 forefront - most inappropriate.

As you been asked to do... as you've been challenged to do - name the name of the Liberal(s) involved... or accept you're (once again) spouting off with your highly partisan and unsubstantiated ranting.

Funny how when the tables were turned you Dobbin were unwilling to name, names. (cadman gate or what ever they called it).

I wasn't unwilling to name names. I asked who met with Cadman and made the offer that everyone in the Cadman family says was offered.

You'll have to be specific if you mean something else.

Capricorn, this the classic Liberal modus operandi.

Someone below casts the aspersions and then people at the top can appear "statesmen-like" and above it all.

How about a cornered Conservative Party? This is nothing compared to two years of moronic "Not A Leader" ads.
Is Dion the leader?

But I notice too that the Liberals really, really don't like anyone even slightly use their own tactics against them.

Let's be plain then. Name the Liberal who was responsible.

Let the lawsuits begin.

Such are the tactics of a bully.

I think Harper once said that the danger of confronting this kind of politics is that it may corrupt one. Harper has been very level-headed in confronting this false accusation.

The Liberals' leading political strategist, Warren Kinsella, has strongly pushed the story originally promulgated by the Telegraph-Journal on his blog. In light of the paper's apology, he has continued to insist that the PM did indeed pocket the host.

Curiously, the time on Kinsella's blog post was changed earlier today to three hours later, a fact that could indicate an attempt to cover up the fact that he posted the Telegraph-Journal's July 8th story very early in the morning on the same date it was published.

Earlier today, Kinsella's blog indicated that he had posted the video of Harper receiving Communion and the Telegraph-Journal story to his blog at 6:53 a.m. on July 8th, the morning the Telegraph-Journal issued its report. In the afternoon, however, the time for all posts had been moved ahead three hours, so that the post about the communion flap now appears to have been posted at 9:53 a.m. A quick search of Google Cache, however, confirmed that the time had in fact been changed and that the post had previously been listed as 6:53 a.m.

It is uncertain, however, if the change in time on the blog is related to the Harper situation or not.

BTW, has Ignatieff commented on this report?

There was one thing we know for certain: what was Harper doing accepting communion at a Roman Catholic funeral in the first place? As I said before, doesn't he have protocol staff to help with this or are they call quitting on him?
