Kenney Pulls Gay Rights from Citizenship Guide

Recommended Posts

somehow Kenney felt it was significant to include separate highlighted sections on the abolition of slavery... and voting rights for women. However, even though Canada is but one of a dozen countries in the world to sanction same-sex marriage, Kenney felt that wasn't... significant... enough!

the 'saving space/need for concise treatment' argument seems to fall apart when one actually reviews the guide. Numerous areas of unused white space exist throughout the guide... the guide includes a disproportionate emphasis on photos that, if nothing else, would lend themselves to elements of outright cropping, scaling or removal in order to free up space for text. Notwithstanding the wasted space at the end of the report to include multiple page citation references, per photo, advising a 'stock photo' association.

most assuredly, the Jason Kenney who steadfastly opposed same-sex marriage since his time as an opposition MP in the House of Commons..... who spoke against the Civil Marriage Act - Bill C-38... purposely directed that the guide not include any direct reference to GLT - or same-sex marriage.

I suspect you're approximately 100% right here.

I think there can be no doubt. Kenney is a bigot.

Agreed, as are a significant number of the CPC's other members and supporters.

What a load of manure...that ranks up there with Mr. Canada's best bon mots

Yet, it's quite obvious that gays, lesbians, transexuals, bisexuals, bi-curious, queer, & etc. are all neither a race nor a gender.

They didn't until recently Mr. Canada, and if you had your way, they still wouldn't.

No, that's not true smallc. Gays should have the same rights we all have and I believe they always have. What rights didn't they have until recently?

Rights are as defined by the International community.

Marriage isn't a right. It's a social or legal contract.

Well, the Supreme Court of Canada and the Parliament of Canada disagree with you...and so you prove me right.

Rights are as defined by the International community.

Until 1967 their behavior was criminal in Canada. It wasn't until 2005 that they could form civil unions. It's irrelevant what the International Community thinks. I mean, after all, freedom of speech isn't even guaranteed to a rather large fraction of the people on this planet.

But perhaps we could use this opportunity to delve a little more into the homo-eroticism that you so often demonstrate. Do tell us more about your interaction with that pride parade.

With very few limitations (ie. close kin and age) it is very much a right. But this has all been dealt with, even though the homophobes in the Conservative party tried to quash it in 2005. Homosexuals now have the right to enter civil unions, and since this is hardly universally recognized around the world, it would seem that it would be important to mention to potential immigrants, much like so many other things that is mentioned.

And gays should have special rights?

I'm not sure why some of you are having a hard time understanding this. In most countries, gays and lesbians have far fewer rights than in Canada (they're special in other countries...in a bad way). Here, they have the same rights as everyone else. That those rights are protected is an important part of Canada.

And gays should have special rights?

That's what they want exactly, special rights. They wish to be treated better then normal striaght people are. As do all of the loud minority groups. We should just ignore them and do what normal people want to do and not even bother acknowledging these trouble makers.

They are just children really. That's how they behave, like children who are throwing a tantrum.

Exactly what smallc said.

What are these "special rights" that gays have?

YOU ALL have the same rights...you can marry a man, or a woman. And now (finally) a gay person can marry a man, or a woman.

These are equal rights. Not "special" rights.

I humbly suggest certain people attempt a tuition refund, as their educations were catastrophic failures even at the elementary level of simple analogy.

Name me ONE "special right" that gays have...meaning one that you don't.

You are claiming they have MORE than one ("rights"...plural)...but I'll settle for just one.

Ok...go.

And here, folks, is the kind of thinking that you'll find under the blankets (so to speak) with much of the Conservative Party. The only difference between Harper and Mr. Canada is Harper isn't a stupid as to open his yap and utter these sorts of things.

Ah, and so the true Mr. Canada comes out.
