Occupy Wall Street Sept 17 2011

Recommended Posts

The whole "Occupy" idea is a complete waste of time by the people doing it, aswell as a strain to public services " police" for the extra overtime that needs to be paid in order to monitor the area.

If they actually know what their cause is, why not lobby with a better method and actually make a difference. These people are pathetic and need to wake up and do things in a proper manner. Write to your legislative member, start a lobbyist group. What you are doing is not only making yourself look bad, but your city as you put a black eye on otherwise nice park areas.

I disagree but I'd never expect an Albertan to understand anything other than the right wing mentality they're inbred into.

Such hostility. Are you always in this kind of mood? Or just when you post in the forum.

Because lobbying is one of the biggest problems that they're trying to bring attention to. If you don't know what their cause is, you just haven't been listening.

For someone who probably decries racism, that statement is about as bigoted as they come. And I am not Albertan by a long stretch.

Albertans aren't a race, so I guess this isn't racism  ... but still dismissing an entire province in this way is another way of saying you have no argument.

Sorry, perhaps you could show me where the majority of Alberta has recently elected or voted anything but a right wing government. I'll await your proof with baited breathe...

Chop chop...

Here's your claim again:

I'd never expect an Albertan to understand anything other than the right wing mentality they're inbred into.

Really, it's just an insult, actually two insults. It looks like you posted this to avoid discussion. None of these behaviors are conducive to contributing positively to MLW.

So, your argument is that since you can't deny what I said is true, you move the goalposts?

ok.

ok.

If you post was a real claim, and wasn't an outright insult, and wasn't therefore against the rules, then it would be up to you to prove your claim.

Nope...in your mind it might be.

Prove me wrong though, please feel free to show where the majority of Albertans have voted anything but right wing governments in the past generation.

If you can I'll withdraw my statement.

Of course they have, but your post didn't say that - it was a dismissal with insults embedded.

Of course they have

You still denying they haven't voted anything but right wing or are you now agreeing with what I said, your opinion of it being insulting notwithstanding...

I agree that they have elected right-wing governments for many decades now, but my comment on your first post stands.

You're entitled to your opinion but having spent a great deal of time there, more so than you have I'm certain, I don't agree with it though.

Now...how about allowing this thread to get back on topic?

Sorry, but I`m supposed to point out insults here.

I would say that OWS has been incredibly successful at focusing a lot of issues, and a lot of public consensus, on the growing wealth disparity between the richest few and the rest of us.

From your link:

Two out of three Americans now perceive strong social conflicts over the income gap — up sharply from two years ago. Paul Taylor of the Pew Research Center has an idea what's behind the increase.

"The Occupy Wall Street movement kind of crystallized the issue: 1 versus 99. [it's'Hell no, we won't go,' going back to the Vietnam era," he says. "[it] certainly triggered a lot of coverage about economic inequality."

Over the last three decades, the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans more than doubled their share of national income, while the bottom 80 percent saw their share shrink. Taylor says majorities of Democrats, independents and even Republicans now see the income gap as a cause of friction. What has OWS accomplished anyway?

So much that it really cannot be itemized or listed. On the same league as Arab accomplishments.

Your sarcasm is ridiculous. Nearly the entire academy and all of Western thought was saved by the Arabs. If it wasn't for them just about everything Socrates had done would have been lost. Not to mention their advances in math and their technological innovations (like the methods used for processing sugar, for example).

Geez, it's too bad they didn't learn some of that for themselves, and say, apply it to their own societies sometime over the last few hundred years.. :)

Ahh, more name calling. Do you ever stop? Seriously?

Anyways, the atomic bomb wouldn't be such a problem if some of the philosophy of government and freedom, and rights had rubbed off on them along the way as well. :)
