Persecuted Christians In America!

It's pretty funny that somebody who has been here for as long as Sharkman could somehow get the idea that you aren't allowed to criticize Muslims here at the MLW.

It's pretty funny that msj is against criticism of some religions and not others. Kimmy, it's odd that you think China's human rights record is a shining standard for the world. Life goes on, I suppose.

Kimmy, read post 1019. It may prove enlightening.

I don't recall ever saying that...

Kimmy, read post 1019. It may prove enlightening.

Ok, I assume this is the relevant part:

I noticed the poster above me just got banned, and maybe I will to for saying the following, but it needs to be said. This forum has a glaring bias that the mod takes great care to maintain. I've made a few posts mocking the muslim faith. Not a rude, bigoted type of post, but just poking fun at a poster or two. My posts(no profanity, no rudeness/anger) were deleted. Without even an explanation note sent to me. just gone. And if you know me, I've not been restricted from this site ever or temporarily banned as many others have. But to cross this Muslim red line, boom, your post is disappeared.

All I said to a poster was that he ought to leave the extremist mosque and Imam and find something more mainstream. That was enough to have my post deleted. I've had 3 similar posts deleted without explanation.

(emphasis mine)

And I think the portions I've bolded ought to illustrate the line you actually crossed: you weren't criticizing Islam, you were criticizing a forum member.

And certainly, for me (and most other members of the forum, I think) that kind of quip would be something I would take in the spirit it was intended... but for some few thin-skinned people here-- the sort who sign up to argue a single issue, not the kind who are here to participate in a community-- I'm sure they just hit the report button, and the moderator looked at the complaint and thought "well, technically, it's against the rules."

I think the sheer volume of posts critical of Islam, written by people like myself, yourself, Argus, Shady, and numerous others, that can be found on this forum prove quite conclusively that Islam is certainly not being protected from criticism by the moderators. There are members here who will respond angrily to criticism of Islam, make excuses, or deflect criticism of Islam by trying to change the topic to something Israel did, but that's not a reflection of the board as a whole or of the moderators.

You've been a member of this community for many years, Sharkman, and I think you're a pretty decent guy, but I disagree with what you're saying.

I don't know how anyone anywhere in North America could think that criticizing Muslims is somehow off limits. They're criticized constantly everywhere here.

It's all part of the painfully idiotic narrative that having your views and opinions criticized is in some way violating your free speech. The foundation of free speech is open debate. That you can present your views to be criticized. Violating your free speech would be locking you up or executing you for even presenting your views in the first place.

This comment is intellectually dishonest if not bankrupt. (Note that I am saying it is the comment that is dishonest rather than you being dishonest or that all sharkmen are dishonest).

Particularly since I have been very vocal against the use of the Jewish faith with respect to bigotry against women on airplanes, have criticized the stupidity of Islam on many occasions with even my signature line pointedly directed towards the childish nature of the cartoon incidents in the past year or so, and of course my criticism of Christianity goes without question.

Sure I've not spent any time pointing out the stupidities of Hinduism or Buddhism or other such religions but they are rather small in our world so it just doesn't seem to come up.

Once again, point out the stupidities of the ideas but that does not mean you must focus on the people who may hold those ideas as dear, or not, but still call themselves Muslims/Jews/Christians as being some kind of homogenized group that are all self entitled privileged people in the case of Christians in this thread, sexist airline disrupters in my thread about Jews and women on planes, or cartoonist terrorists in the case of Muslims.

You ARE allowed. Theres hundreds of posts here that do just that.

Watch this...

The abrahamites (jews, muslims, and christians) are idiots with all the critical thinking skills of a busted hacksaw. Abraham himself was a despicable little piece of dung, happy to whore out his own deushe-bag wife. The god of retarded jews, christians and muslims is a murderous, maniacle piece of garbage and all their profits are baby-f&%king pieces of rotten feces. Anyone dumb enough to believe in ANY of this crap should be too embarassed to even leave their homes. In fact... they should just kill themselves so that the median IQ of the human race goes up 30 points.

That's interesting, I got a warning for calling someone "toots". Compare that with your quote and you've been given more leeway than I have. That's what bugs me about this place, the uneven way the rules are applied.

Edit: Or put it another way. You can make completely bigoted hate speech at a group of people all day. You can hate Jews, Blacks(oh wait, not sure about that one), Americans, Muslims Christians, etc. But make the same remarks at a single Jew or Muslim on this forum and it's wrong. That's just plain stupid and idiotic.

Such comments are wrong. It doesn't matter whether they are aimed at a single person or a group of people. If the mods are going to let it go when bigoted speech is directed at all Jews or Gays, then stop it when its directed at a single gay person, it's meaningless. But par for the course at this circus.

Um, of course I do.

My bias, as an atheist, is that I don't like any religion since I hold faith in contempt.

It is necessary to challenge all religious ideas as to undermine them and bring about secular democracies everywhere.

So there's my bias and agenda if it wasn't already obvious enough.

No it isn't.

We are not supposed to call each other names. Clearly offside and if it gets reported then too bad.

We can criticize things like religion all we want.

Dre's point is ok because it is in context of the discussion we are having.

Or it's ok because no one has reported it so it has been overlooked.

I find it confounding that people would continue to come here even though they get offended when others don't agree with them, start insulting others because they don't agree with them, and then get even more offended when they are called out for being insulting. Debating civilly is obviously not what they are interested in. I guess it feels good to just play the victim card instead.

Anyway before CA gets here to give us points! for going off side lets bring it firmly back on topic.

This story is interesting: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friendlyatheist/2015/06/13/college-athlete-says-she-lost-her-scholarship-after-objecting-to-her-coachs-christian-proselytizing/.

So which Christian is being persecuted? (I'm being rhetorical here).

The coach for having to legally defend herself for forcing all her players to attend her church or the Catholic student who lost her scholarship for not wanting to be involved in that brand of Christianity?

Prove that I am of idiot mentality. My IQ is 79; above moron level. I am Jewish. Next.

Abraham himself was a despicable little piece of dung, happy to whore out his own deushe-bag wife.

Are you saying Abraham was excreted from someone rather than procreated? Next

The god of retarded jews, christians and muslims is a murderous, maniacle piece of garbage and all their profits are baby-f&%king pieces of rotten feces.

Are you saying that the G-ds earn profits? Or that the profit and loss statements are made out of feces? I didnt know that papyrus, paper or bytes had the quality of feces. Next

Anyone dumb enough to believe in ANY of this crap should be too embarassed to even leave their homes. In fact... they should just kill themselves so that the median IQ of the human race goes up 30 points.

Are you counseling suicide? For other reasons that might not be a bad idea.

Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who refused to issue gay marriage licenses, has been found in contempt of court and taken into federal custody.
According to AP, U.S. District Judge David Bunning said Thursday that Davis would be held in jail until she complied with the previous court orders to begin granting the marriage licenses.
...
In response to Thursday's decision to hold her in contempt of court, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said, "Kim Davis in federal custody removes all doubts about the criminalization of Christianity in this country."
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) also rushed to Davis' defense: "I think it’s absurd to put someone in jail for exercising their religious liberties," he said on CNN.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) issued a statement calling for "every lover of liberty to stand for Kim Davis."
“Kim Davis should not be in jail. We are a country founded on Judeo-Christian values, founded by those fleeing religious oppression and seeking a land where we could worship God and live according to our faith, without being imprisoned for doing so," he said.

Can anyone provide the chapter and verse for the New Testament Bible passage where issuing gay marriage licenses is forbidden?

I don't think it does... but I can tell you that the bible forbids divorce.

Mark 10:12 - And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

This woman has been married four times.

What is the biblical saying about casting the first stone?

I'm pretty sure it's part of the sermon on the mount:

Matthew 5:48

Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect, unless you're a heathen homo.

Really. Has no one brought this up with her? I'd love to hear her answer.

It's ridiculous that this woman is in jail. Just fire her and hire someone who will issue the licences.

She can't be fired. She's an elected official. She would need to be impeached, but I'm not sure by whom.

She is in contempt of a court order... of course she should be in jail.

Sometimes seems like recent converts can be the biggest fanatics. We've seen that with most of the recent Canadian homegrown terrorists; people from typical Canadian backgrounds who just discovered Islam a couple years ago and are ready kill for their newfound faith.

I meant that it was ridiculous it went that far. Didn't realize she was elected. Not sure how that works.

What a lot of fundies seem to conveniently gloss over is that Jesus allegedly formed a new covenant with his followers in that he claimed to have fulfilled the old law and replaced it with his own. Why do they, the most ardent believers, go against their saviours wishes with such alarming frequency and expect everyone else to understand their 'good faith'? Nonsense is better than no sense.
