I saw Bob Rae govern and that was enough!

I know, "But that was the OLD NDP!" you will cry!

If they kept getting in, you would say "2 out of 3, no 3 out of 5, no! 5 out of 7!"

And I never helped to shape the CPC, thank you! The PCs took it over and I bailed on the PCs nearly 25 years ago for being too leftwing. Why would I feel more comfortable with the NDP?

I don't want to abolish the Senate. I want to increase Canada's military and strengthen our NATO ties. I don't believe in taxing the rich till there are no more (to crib from that old Ten Years After song). I don't believe in corporate welfare to save the jobs of workers who make more than I ever did and I don't believe that any government run service could ever come close to being an efficient vehicle for delivering services!

Frankly, I think the CNIB could do a better job of delivering the mail than the present crown corporation!

I don't believe in a minimum wage. or rent controls. While I don't mind carrying an OHIP card, I would love to see as many private clinics as possible, to force CUPE and all medical unions into a competitive situation with private industry to deliver health care services.

I would allow any bar, club or restaurant that wishes to allow smoking, non-smoking or mixed, depending on whatever clientelle they wish to attract.

While I would legalize all drugs, I would not support paying a nickel towards needle exchanges or clean shootup rooms. I would support rehab only.

I favour capital punishment! I would have sent tanks into Caledonia and Oka! I would abolish the Indian Act and negotiate one-tie reparations. After that you would either be a Canadian or not, and only Canadians would be entitled to government aid and services.

No abortion would be publicly funded, except as a result of rape or incest. Along with that, condoms would be free for everyone!

Anyone working for a Human Rights Commission would be designated a public target and could be beaten or shot with impunity!

Just how well would I fit with the NDP, punked? I admit I got a bit carried away with the last point but still, somehow I don't think I'd be a good match.

I'll say this... HALLELUJAH that you don't have any say in policies

Yeah, I don't know how that glitched so badly! Still, you can see my list of core beliefs. Do you really think I could be comfortable in the NDP?

I think in the NDP if you have a belief you are welcome to convince members of it, have them vote on it on the convention floor, and tie the party and leader to it because that is the way the party works. It is true democracy.

Do I think your beliefs are where the NDP is right now? No I don't but you sign up enough members and that is where the party will be.

So I should join and sign up memberships? Bringing money and support to the party, I suppose.

Reminds me of an old Goon Show record I've kept since the early 60's, where there was a radio show about an old Scot who had trained his dog to swim down to the wreck of a treasure ship in his local loch and bring some pieces of gold or whatever back to him.

One day he comes up with a scheme to drain the loch and have access to all the treasure at once. Of course, that would mean the end of the dog's livelihood and the dog asks him "What will that mean?"

"Well Laddiedog!" says the old Scot. "It means that I will be a very rich man, and you will have become a far better swimmer!"

I think I'll pass! :P

Again a lot of people through out History have picked Policy over Democracy and anything goes attitude. That is a fine choice it will never be my choice though I refuse to support a party any party that does not support grassroots democracy as I see it. IT is a none starter for me and many people I know who use to be Reform members. You clearly are a different type who take the party that says "we will do anything to enforce our will". That is your right in this country, I just pray that there aren't to many people out there that feel that way.

This could get interesting.... and this ought to sufficiently piss off Argus viz. the power of judges.

LOL So the liberals are peeing their panties over the thought of an election - no wonder they are pushing this.

Yes, they ardently hope that the election results will be nullified and a new general election called by the powers that be. The likelihood of that happening are akin to the odds of Canada establishing a space station on the moon.

I'm reminded of the Liberal convention where Stephane Dion passionately said "Liberals, we have to get back to power as soon as possible".

You are setting up a straw man again. How do you know that was my choice? You know what they say about the word "assume".

There's a simpler explanation. While I agree with your assessment of the present CPC party I don't take your claim of the NPD inheriting the Reformer mantle of policy from the party grassroots as gospel.

Even more, if I accept it as truth that still isn't enough to overcome all the other differences between me and the NDP. Just because its the most populist party doesn't trump EVERYTHING else!

Yah I get it, you have chosen policy over democracy. That is all I have been saying. We agree with what you have chosen which is fine.

That being said, please note that I have never said never! I certainly could see myself voting for the NDP if it ever became what I perceive as "modern". Jack moved mountains towards that end. Now things could go either way. Given a choice between a Tory party that has lost its way and a modern Labour type party I could find myself switching my vote in an instant.

We'll just have to wait and see what the next election brings. I don't think it likely that the Liberals will have gotten their act together enough by that time to make them appealing to me.

More likely, they are going to just fade away! There's too much ego in that crew to allow change. It's all about power struggles within the Liberal party, with zero attention seeming to be paid to make them an attractive choice to the voters.

Liberal parties all around the world have fallen because they are brokerage parties. They have no place in a true democracy.

I think its conveniant for the cpc that all kinds of calls are being made to elections canada

from conservatives claiming they got these calls too

except most of them were not reported until now

Well according to this Conservative supporters complained about such calls around election day. Even the CBC said so.

05/02/2011

---

The CBC reported that some calls were reportedly traced to American area codes and to a Canadian call centre doing some legitimate Liberal calling that denies it.

The CBC also reported that one of its journalists had talked to NDP and Conservative supporters who had experienced the same kinds of phone calls.

Did you note the date there OLP? May 2, 2011.

Now I don't know how many of those Conservative supporters reported those calls to Elections Canada back then but you can be darn sure they're being reported now. And maybe, just maybe, the CBC still has those records of what they reported on back in May 2011.

Lots of Conservatives got calls and letters during the last election telling them the wrong polling location. Some candidates pleaded with EC to look into it at the time, but EC didn't think it was serious:

Not surprisingly, when it was CPC candidates that might have been affected, neither the CBC, nor Elections Canada, nor any of the phoney democracy defenders on this site thought it was news. It's only when it looks like it might have affected an NDP or LPC candidate that it becomes serious.

Really? Please provide links to CBC stories of robo-call election fraud being perpetrated against the Conservatives during the last election. Please show me all of the posts on this site where the same people crying foul about the CPC were calling the LPC and NDP criminals over it.

Please show me that it was happening. I think that these stories won't turn into much, but I think your blatant partisanship blinds you.

I cannot believe that whoever is behind this can fully hide their tracks. I hope whoever is behind this gets prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The truth will out.

Oh, I agree with you, but I'm saying that I don't think that we'll end up with the election being overturned, like some seem to want.

Thanks for the clarification Smallc. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, maybe one or two by-elections will be called but my guess that would be just for show. You know, Elections Canada showing "we act when it matters" type of situation. And that might not be such a bad thing, to offset the decline of respect Canadians have in the electoral process as a result of these events.

I'm in full agreement with you there. Nothing of substance is going to come of this.

I was just pointing out the clear double-standard whereby something is only bad if a Conservative is accused of it, amplified by the outright dismissal when that double-standard is pointed-out.
