Obama vs Romney - POTUS 2012

Recommended Posts

Yes, they do; and if they feel as if how Romney listed his wealth and how he invested it and what amount he paid taxes on is important, they have the right to ask about it - so actually, what you're saying here is in direct conflict with your previous claim of "that's actually not a right."

Sure, you can want anything you want to. But you don't have a right to somebody else's privacy. Like I said, there is no right to see somebody's tax returns. You can absolutely want to see it. But there is no right to see it. So no, my claim is consistent.

Nooooo. How he listed his wealth, how he invested it, how much he paid taxes on are legitimate concerns regarding someone who is expected to act on our behalf - in some of those areas, no less.

How he invests is a legitimate concern? I see that your claim about more pressing matters was a bit of a charade. And in terms of taxes, he paid the legally required amount to be paid. Like I said, the IRS reviews every tax return, each year, in detail.

Your dismissing it as "envy, jealously, and resentment" actually kinda says to me that you think he does have something in his returns that wouldn't sit well with the voters.

Sure, some voters. Some won't like that he makes more money than they do. Some won't like that he pays the legally required captial gains tax rate. Like I said. It's not that his returns will show illegal activity. The opposition just wants to use them as a political football. Even though his tax returns will be similar to those of John Kerry's from just a few years ago.

Btw, why hasn't Obama released his college transcripts? Why has he gone through the process of having them sealed? Why is he the only presidential candidate not to release them? Makes you wonder doesn't it? :)

We've seen his birth certificate. We haven't seen his college transcripts. Why? Every other presidential candidate has released them. Why has he gone through the trouble of sealing them?

BUT WHAT ABOUT ROMNEY'S BIRTH CERTIFICATE SHADY?

Ps I would just point out here McCain had his collage records sealed as well an we didn't get to see them last election. I remember having this discussion with you then to.

Why won't you answer the question? You're correct that president's have released tax returns, but they've also released college transcripts. Why is Obama the only one not to? Why has he gone trough the trouble of having them sealed? Shouldn't you be insisting he release those, as well as insisting Romney release his returns?

I didn't say they had the right to see his tax returns; I said they had the right to press for them, and the right to vote accordingly. But I think you already knew that, so for the record, I won't waste any more time beyond this going off on something that has nothing to do with what I've said.

How he invests is a legitimate concern?

It absolutely is. American voters have the right to know if their POTUS has invested in interests outside of the country - interests that he may be making decisions about, for example.

I see that your claim about more pressing matters was a bit of a charade.

Then I see that you see what you want to see regardless.

And in terms of taxes, he paid the legally required amount to be paid. Like I said, the IRS reviews every tax return, each year, in detail.

And like I said, that doesn't answer all of the questions some voters have. There's a reason why he's not releasing more than he already has.

How do you know that they'd be similar to Kerry's? You haven't seen them. No haven't a clue.

Good question, but one thing I do know - I'm not going to claim that they are similar to fill-in-the-blank's. I have no idea, and I have to assume that he's not forthcoming with them for a reason.

At any rate, this discussion has become pointless. Americans who are asking for Romney's returns have the right to ask for them, he has the right to provide them or not, and Americans will vote accordingly, depending on the importance they place on it. That's the bottom line.

What is the relevance of the college transcripts to the presidency? And if he shows you his college record, what would be the next step? High School records?

If the guy who wants to be president is not paying his taxes or is cheating on his taxes I would prefer to know.(Not saying he is or is not)

But if a guy does not disclose his college record that ultimately has little to no effect on my life that is unless he bought his degree.(Again not saying he did)

I think there is relevance to the request. Evidently Obama went to Columbia and no one there remembers him. So why would he not release them? If he got good grades, why wouldn't he release them? And if he didn't get good grades, how did he get into Harvard? The question has been raised as to whether he may have attended as an exchange student, which would raise some questions. I think his refusal to release his transcripts is as much of an issue as Romney's refusal to release more of his tax returns. As an Obama supporter, his transcript isn't enough of an issue to me personally - but I'm sure to Romney supporters, his tax returns aren't enough of an issue, either. Personally, I see both of their refusals as a wash regarding what effect it will have with voters.

You can't get into Harvard with out a 3.75 GPA. You just can't.

Exactly. And that's what's so puzzling about Obama's refusal to release his transcript from Columbia - if he had the grades needed to get into Harvard. And if he didn't have the grades, how did he get into Harvard? I would like to know the answer.

Affirmative Action.

Why would that be something to hide, though? Seems to me it would be proof of it's value - Affirmative Action student becomes POTUS.

That's true. Both Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice have firmly supported AA. (Condi said she was a beneficiary of it herself.)

Because today in "post affimative action" America, it is a political liability. Remember the Clarence Thomas hearings?

Very true. Although the media made him the first affirmative action president anyways. He owes them a debt of gratitude for their help during the 2008 election. Especially during the primary with Hillary. I still remember the SNL skit where they had the moderators giving him water, and pillows, etc. He also owes the New York Times I believe for sitting on the Rev. Wright story in December of '07.

Affirmative Action.

Even with AA Harvard doesn't accept anyone with a GPA under 3.75. Maybe he doesn't want the right wing hate machine to go after his teachers, as they did when they released that video of him giving a speech and hugging his teacher from his Collage days just a few months ago. That seems fair to me they have already proven that they are willing to go after those who have taught Obama why expose more of his teachers to such assaults? He is the president he can handle that but these people are private citizens.

That's not true. I suspect b_c2004 is right, although Obama went on to graduate in the top 10% at Harvard.

What kind of idiot thinks that the POTUS has any control over gas prices? And if he regulates prices then he's a commie.

Nobody would consider Nixon a commie, but he did just that.

So, Santorum has pulled out, which removes the miniscule doubt that there existed over Romney's nomination as the republican candidate.

Aint the end of his term yet, he always got plenty of oil just sitting in some barrels to drop on the domestic market to kill prices if he wants.

Right. Obama doesn't mind oil that's already been pulled out of the ground. He just doesn't seem to like the pulling. Instead, he'd rather other countries around the world do it for him.
