Winnipeg police chief touts prayer to help combat crime

I was under the impression that we were actually engaged in discussion, so I'm glad that I saw this before wasting my time responding to your latest post.

I wonder if The Squid is really a squid? Literally. laugh.png

He posts like a squid tries to swim out of water! biggrin.pnglaugh.pngbiggrin.png

First of all, I wasn't even talking to you. Secondly, my remark was no more "arrogant or snide" than the remark I was responding to. Which again, has nothing to do with you. Third, if what I said wasn't clear to you, ask for clarification instead of stating how I feel about Christianity and other religions - especially in light of the fact that I've never said anything to so much as insinuate anything that would lead to your ignorant claim. Last but not least, anyone who claims to "know" if prayer does or doesn't work, while belittling others' beliefs, does come across to me as thinking they are enlightened. But notice that I didn't claim he DID think he was the enlightened one; I said I bet he thinks he is. And I do bet that. Now for my final point. None of this has anything at all to do with you. Are you getting that yet?

So again. Do not speak for me. You really, really suck at it.

I did not speak for him. Read, comprehend, and perhaps you won't make such erroneous claims.

If you want to respond to what the Squid says, fine. If you want to respond to what I say, fine. But I repeat. Do you speak for me; do not state what I think. I can, and will, do that myself.

Talk about comprehension. I can't help but compare The Squid and Cybercoma. They swim along in the same synchronized, unthinkingly eely "un-enlightened" way.....so there's this big question again......

Is Cybercoma The Shrimp? biggrin.png

Or The Scuttlefish. biggrin.pnglaugh.png

And Gosthacked is their....Little Mermaid! laugh.png

Whoooooohooooo!

<singing while doing the samba>

The seaweed is always greener.....In somebody else's lake

You dream about going up there.....But that is a big mistake

Cha cha chaaaaa...

Well, this proves prayer does not work. Maybe I am not praying in the right way?

I apologize. I did break forum rules right then. Posts should have more content than a lol in most cases, and certainly mine should have in the case of this thread. Again, sorry for my poor etiquette.

It's not about whether voodoo works or not. It's about the big question whether you are reading the posts/arguments.....and most importantly, whether you understand what you read at all.

I was completely on topic. Would it be ok for the chief to ask the Haitians to sacrifice a chicken to help with the crime problem?

It's hilarious the resistance you're getting to the prayer of other religions. Stop persecuting Christians by suggesting that people of other faiths do the exact same thing that the police chief asked of Christians.

Sez who?

Presidents and Prime Ministers publicly express their beliefs in God. Even while campaigning.

Well we don't have 'presidents', this ain't the US.

Sorry....still doesn't jell. Still proves you're not reading....or you're not understanding what you've read.

What a nonsensical reply.... Do you mind being more specific.

I appreciate the apology. Thank you.

I wonder if the Chief believes that in addition to prayer, maybe a voodoo spell might help the crime rate too... what about a native dance ceremony? Perhaps rubbing the tummy of Buddha might help! All these things have proven to be equally as effective as prayer. Why doesn't the Chief promote those too?

Since voodoo spells and native dance ceremonies and rubbing the tummy of a Buddha aren't part of the Christian belief system, I have to wonder why you think they could be part of the Chief's Christian belief system.

Furthermore, if you really listen to what he was saying, he said that (and I'm paraphrasing here as I don't care to scroll back and find the exact quote yet again) perhaps by praying for others, people will have a more personal perception of them, be less likely to see them only as 'strangers,' and therefore be less likely to act in a criminal way against them. It's hardly what you are making it out to be. Furthermore, he was speaking to the Christian demographic, as a Christian - not the population at large, as the police chief.

But I really would appreciate your sources that "prove" prayer is just as effective as a voodoo spell, native dance ceremonies, and rubbing the belly of a Buddha. Considering these are all different things, I have to wonder why anyone would even compare the three, but I am really interested in your "proof" that all three are "equally effective."

It's hilarious the resistance you're getting to the prayer of other religions. Stop persecuting Christians by suggesting that people of other faiths do the exact same thing that the police chief asked of Christians.

Who has resisted the suggestion that people of other faiths do the exact same thing that the police officer suggested? rolleyes.gif What's being "resisted" is the idea that the Chief himself should be "promot[ing] those too."

Why would anyone think that Christian prayers work better than Muslim prayers or prayers to the spirits that Natives believe in?

Repeating from the opening post, emphasis mine:

Acting police Chief Devon Clunis says he would like Winnipeggers of all faiths to pray for a better and safer city, as he believes people often find inspiration in prayer to take action and help one another.

Better proof than I've seen that prayer does work.

I had theory that praying does not work. I created a basic scientific method to test the theory. Looks like we have evidence to prove my theory, so now I should be able to claim that praying does not work. SCIENCE !!!!

I recall the reply Stephan Hawking was given when he asked what was holding up the turtle that was holding up the world. The answer that it was turtles all the way down, makes me wonder if we could use a turtle collider to scientifically prove the existence of prayons and other faithicles that must form the fundamental basis for betsy's universe.

Now remember, all you need to to is pray. No action other than simple praying is needed for this experiment.
