that's looney...calgary alone could use 4-5 billion in infrastructure dollars and you think that can be paid with sick days and clawing back pensions?...rolleyes.gif brilliant math that is cool.png

Yes very easily. I'm sorry you're unable to comprehend the math. It rivals your grasp of history:

not only do our right wingers suck at math they suck at history as well...dief had 53% of popular vote reaching center and Mulroney hit 50%laugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.pngcool.png

Here's a history lesson for you:

no harper has a majority because of the FPTP electoral system ..an understanding of the simplest sort of math shows 39% of the popular is not capturing any part of the center other the extreme right of center...capturing center would mean the cpc has 60-70% of the popular vote and they are no where close to that...

You must really suck at history if you can't remember what you posted less than an hour ago! laugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.png

No need for the tax.. the money should just come from the feds. You could build a world class subway in Toronto by cutting other federal spending by 0.5% for two years. Freeze fed department budgets for two years and there you go.

It can be done easily, but the electorate has prioritized deficit reduction over infrastructure spending for now.

We need more discussion (in media and among politicians) of insufficient infrastructure so that it becomes a hot-button political issue next election. Then the electorate can vote on whether to pay for new infrastructure by raising taxes or cutting bankable sick days and defined benefit pension obligations to bureaucrats. I know who I'll be voting for.

Complete nonsense . The infrastructure gap in this country is between $128 and $300 billion. If you think that can be covered by cutting sick days, well, you are as big a dupe as your user name suggests.

no tax is good tax.

We need to remove taxes not add more of them. Municipalities need to reduce their spending. Sales taxes are already high enough in Canada. I'll take dirt roads and snow shoes over paying someone for something I can do myself.

Costs are way too high.. things are too developed in Canada in terms of infrastructure upkeep. People should be able to accept less.

Tax people who use the programs. Blanket taxing is immoral.

Costs should go to people who get the benefits.

The NDP are suggesting a 1% value added tax but prior to the last election the NDP promised that its platform for re-election would be implemented without any tax increases. It continues to assert that this promise is being kept.

http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Politics/2012/11/13/20354106.html

They have however, put forward a discussion paper prepared by Olivia Chow’s office through a Commons committee which would allow municipalities to impose a 1% value-added sales tax.

So Harper's 1% reduction of GST effectively gets transferred to the municipalities, which have absorbed downloading by Martin and Harris while business property taxes tanked, so this makes sense to me.

Olivia Chow has been front and centre in Toronto recently talking about Toronto and infrastructure so I expect Olivia Chow to take a run at the Toronto Mayor’s office in 2014.

That would be awesome!

The buffoon got his chance and proved to be ... a buffoon ... an embarrassment.

Olivia has class ... and intelligence.

For all the people who support raising the taxes why not just send your money to the government on your own and leave the rest of us with more of our money for ourselves. Just write the government a cheque and mail it in. I'm sure they would take it.

Because that would be a completely fruitless endeavour. A country only works when everyone contributes to needed programs (now, we can argue all day about what is needed, but, your idea is crazy....but, considering....

Sure there would be more money available potentially. But if all the centre of left supporters who support a tax hike sent in an additional 2-3% I thin k that would cover the amounts that the centre and centre right would've sent in so it should balance out. Why not just send it in on your own and leave more money in the pockets of those who do not wish to pay more taxes.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I don't know what happened in the Chatroom before I was a member here as only members can access the chatroom from what I understand. i am not very techy.

I usually attend the Pride parade every year as I have several friends who are usually in it, so I come out to support them and the struggle for gay rights and equality. I have never tape recorded or videotaped anything during Pride, I am too busy taking in the celebrations. Many people do video tape the parade including news people from around the world and even some normal people do too.

....................

Huh .... how can a reduction get transferred? The proposed increase of 1% would go to the municipalities.
