Mass shooting

The real problem is that your unwavering view that no one should own guns forces him into that position.

I think the only guns city people should be allowed to own should be for hunting: ie, long rifles and shotguns. None should have clips. Clips should be illegal. Five shot maximum bolt or pump action, single shot weapons kept in a storage facility on the edge of the city, picked up on your way out to go hunting and dropped off on your way back. A year long prison sentence without parole for anyone caught with one inside city limits, five years for possession or sale of hand guns, ten years for possession or sale of automatic weapons/assault rifles.

I think the question a Gun ownership advocate has to ask themselves is why anyone, let alone a mother in New England, needs to legally own an assault rifle?

Because they're paranoid and frightened. Apparently the mother in question was afraid the fiscal cliff would result in the US collapsing and she needed an assault rifle in that case to protect herself...

Guns do not work for self defense, on average. Mostly the guns kill people that they shouldn't, rather than an intruder. I'm not going to go and get the stats and links again.... The case is very clear. A gun under your pillow is more likely to kill your family/friends than the boogy-man.

As in this case. The woman bought the gun to protect herself and it wound up being used to kill her.

A gun saved my dads life...from another gun, mind you, but still, without it, he would have been dead.

And without either gun?

Statistically it's clear that firearms are responsible for far and away more deaths than savings of lives.

Safe storage? You're the same poster that thinks people should be allowed to carry and shouldn't have to lock up their guns at home, so they can be used for self-defence, right?

Certainly, a monitored safe or room converted into a vault, coupled with trigger locks, would reduce the numbers of accidental deaths/injures and instances of theft dramatically……….Coupled with licensing, with requirements of both mental health assessments and liability insurance, you could reduce legal firearms related deaths significantly.

I personally have several safes that weigh more then a small car, are fireproof and would require a thief to use a plasma torch to open……….Of course, my collection of firearms and optics is worth somewhere between 50-100k………..At the end of the day, you can by Master trigger locks for under $10 and a half decent safe for $300-400 at Crappy Tire.

I’ve never said guns shouldn’t be stored safely, especially in a home with children, but concealed carry isn’t related to firearms storage.

This is laughable coming from a nation that let's MURDERERS walk for little more time....because they have become "rehabilitated" MURDERERS.

Well there's always a faint hope for rehabilitation.

Well, those statistics would also have to include guns used by police to be meaningful, which would change the stats. As I said, the first gun was not obtained legally. It would have been there anyway.

Of which well-regulated militia was Adam Lanza a member?

None that I know of.........The Supreme Court has ruled long ago that the Second Amendment garners the individual the right to posses firearms, unrelated to their service in a Militia…………..With that said, would you feel better if gun owners banded together in paramilitary type organizations?

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

My comparison was appropriate. Yours was not.

No, mine was exactly inline with yours, in that if a plane crashes due to “human error or negligence”, after the fact, no one is calling for a banning of planes.

Not over wearing name tags.....they are actually interdicting drugs instead. Guess it's just a matter of different priorities.

And by their own admission, the best they have ever done is stop 20% of the stuff coming across the Mexican border. Interdicting eh. How would you suggest we do that with arms coming across our US border?

I never claimed otherwise....they do their job while wearing name tags...amazing, huh? How to stop 20% of guns coming across your border....that's easy. Make them readily available in Canada, of course!

Why don't you do the same for cocaine and heroin? Why are you waisting your time, money and energy trying to stop drugs. Why should we make them readily available? Just because you are in love with them?

Hey, I was just answering your question. This response means that you agree, technically. The U.S. wastes its time and money controlling illegal drugs because it wants to. We can even do it while wearing name tags.

Chance what will? Killing sprees? Any evidence that Harper has done anything to make that more likely?

Getting rid of a Long Gun Registry was a tool to eliminate a wasteful federal program. The guns in the Newtown shootings were legally owned so there's nothing to stop something like this happening in Canada. It happened in a College in Quebec years ago.

Maybe not mass shootings.

But possibly suicides,domestic violence?

For the same reason it loves its guns. Because it wants to. The Constitution has little to do with it. That's only the justification.
