America under President Trump

But lockdowns are irrelevant if after lockdowns people don't do what they're suppose to do.  It will just be a vicious cycle.

Well that's the key right. People in the US feel that Social Distancing or "Mitigation" as you call it, infringes on their rights. So they do what they do and we see more cases in 2 days in the US than Canada has seen since the start of the Pandemic.

In Ontario, we look to be headed into Phase 3 of re-opening. People don't see it as a hoax, and mask wearing didn't really need to be mandated. And cases are a fraction of what's being seen in the US.

Slow and steady really wins the race.

A million jobs also created in Canada in July. That's double, per capita from what Trump was spiking the football over.

Yes, I mostly agree.  Until people start taking it more seriously, particularly younger people, lockdowns are irrelvant.

The idea is that people have no alternative but to stay home if you mandate all business and parks close.

It's already starting to happen in these states that are seeing historic rates of positivity.

Hard for them to take it seriously when their president keeps pushing the idea it's a hoax that was created just to make him look like a bumbling, incompetent, dangerous clown.

Correct..."Live Free or (and) Die"  in action.    President Trump speaks to that aspect and large segment of American culture that has existed for 250 years.

But face masks ares still being "mandated" in many Ontario cities....nice try.

Ironically, Canada buys face masks and other PPE from the U.S. (e.g. 3M Co.)

And those people are getting very sick.

And many cities haven't. There really isn't any enforcement mechanism to force people to wear a mask unless a business refuses service to someone not wearing a mask.

That has resulted in some life ruining online temper tantrums by Anti-Maskers.

So you admit that face masks have been mandated in parts of Ontario.

...that must be for the "Trumpers", right ?   How dare some Canadians not behave like sheep !

The hoax is that he called it a hoax.

Well you have to remember that these historic rates are only historic because they never had really high rates like New York back in the spring.

It must bother you how well New York has since managed to get it under control. That's from taking it seriously.  Now let's watch Florida and Texas get it under control. Do you anticipate comparable competence?

And just like that, masks are bad again. "Don't wear them!"

If Trump gets elected, and takes the house and keeps the senate, I can be pretty sure and will predict that this China virus and all of the bull shit associated with it will be gone. Good bloody riddance to a bloody pile of stinking garbage. By Trump not always wearing a mask is really indicating to all that Trump does not really believe in wearing a mask. Trump already knows that this China virus is all just an elite Bill Gates and Fauci deep state globalist cabal pile of horse manure. The only problem now is when will they the people finally wake up and have finally figured that this has all been one big hoax? Always living in a state of fear and panic over some seasonal flu bug that comes around every year is beyond continuing with madness. ;)

You're wrong again as usual Bubber.

NY had 41 deaths yesterday. Fla and Texas both have larger populations than NY State and Fla had 35 deaths, Tex had 21, Az had 8.

I know that has a lot to do with the fact that they don't have idiot governors and mayors like Cuomo and DeBlazio who threw infected patients back into care homes, but that's NY's own fault because they were stupid enough to vote for Dems.

It must bother you how often you're just 100% wrong. Just remember "stats aren't your friend'. Never post anything that can easily be verified or discredited by stats.

New York has 31,000 dead and counting.  Texas and Florida 3,000.  But damn did New York ever do a great job! LOL.

I guess when you fuck it up as bad as possible, then later on when things are better you can claim victory in Bubber’s world!

It's true having an incompetent,  unfit president is no help when he keeps tweeting it's a hoax, but trying to play politics with death rates is soon going to come back to haunt you in a terrible way. I hope I'm wrong, but you're going to look like more of an idiot than ever soon.

Almost as bad as having an incompetent governor of New York.  New York has more long term care deaths than Florida has total deaths!  They have 10 times the deaths despite having half the population of Florida or Texas.  That’s quite an achievement, and quite a success story that you point to.  Truth is, they fucked it up almost as bad as possible.

Lol. It's like shooting 350 on a round of golf so that you can win "Most Improved Player" when you shoot 160.

Yes, we are agreed the U.S. was, overall, the worst imaginable shitshow. Quebec and Ontario's numbers would have been better if they didn't have such close proximity to that incompetent mess. The worst part is they actually listened to the idiots and opened up too soon. Now I fear it gets really bad.

I see the new tactic is comparing death rate to countries in Europe and New York who were early to the COVID game and had no idea how to treat it.

The US has a much lower death rate than those country. BUT but but, not since May.

The difference is that all other developed nations have bent the curve and have low cases now. Because they took it seriously.

No that's not true, if New York is set aside, the rest of the country was way down the list in terms of per capita deaths.  They didn't open too soon.  They had "health professionals" advocate for massive protests around the country, despite the consequences.

Yes, but other countries didn't have hundreds of thousands of people protesting nation wide for 2 to 3 weeks.  Or do you think it's just a coincidence that cases exploded 10 - 14 days after the protests?  Just a coinkidink huh?

Gonna keep on with that?

You've already conceded that people in these states, at large, aren't mitigating the spread of the disease.

Minnesota, DC and New York all had notable protests. But no where near the spikes seen in Florida, Texas and Arizona. Did protests play a role. Sure. But so did going to bars and restaurants too early.

That's why Many states are rolling back re-opening efforts. While places like Canada and Europe can now re-open with only a small fraction of the caseload.

All any government can do is try to limit the infections. The death rate takes care of itself. NYC has done an admirable job of limiting new infections,  even though they seemed to have lost control a few months ago. Now Florida is worse but they aren't doing much to control the infection rate, other than reopening Disney World. This could get ugly. We can only hope the virus has mutated to become less lethal (which may fortunately be the case).
