26 birth houses identified used by Mainland Chinese to get their children citizenship.

It is obvious that the government of Canada does not care one iota about preventing Canada from being colonized. If they did they would close these abhorrent back doors.

Over the long term it makes no great impact on Canada.

Yes and smoking makes no difference on health and herbicides make no difference on food quality and water makes no difference on forest fires and we should get rid of fire extinguishers while we are at it, because they don't really make a difference. In fact nothing makes a difference, everythings hunkey dorey, let's just give Canada a way, because Canada doesn't matter!

We have no idea what the long term impact is. We don't even really know how many anchor babies there are born in Canada each year. No one is keeping track. Hospitals don't record the nationality of parents. They simply register the child as Canadian and that's that. It devalues Canadian citizenship and allows free entry to people later who would otherwise never be permitted to live in this country. Finding we suddenly had tens of thousands of "Canadians" living in Lebanon that we had to evacuate in a crisis was unpleasant enough. Who wants to have us responsible for a hundred thousand or several hundred thousand Chinese "Canadians" who don't speak a word of English and haven't been here since they were born?

What? Babies being granted Canadian citizenship? My citizenship (which was granted for the very same reason: Birth) is losing its value? Can I write off the reduction on my taxes? Will my ability to use it as collateral be affected? What will become of us when children whose parents aren't Canadian are Canadians?

But isn't that the whole moral point of this country? No matter what political party is in power, federally or provincially, the aim has always been the same: Canada is to be a wonderful place to live, All should be thrilled to be able to live here. We thank our lucky stars we are living in Canada and loudly brag about how wonderful it all is....then say NFW!

Canada is a wonderful country, because of its low population, its heritage and for its values.

That is worth protecting.

The world if it finds that impressive, should seek to emulate it first by lowering its own populations to improve quality of life in other countries, not by overwhelming Canada, exploiting its environment and overpopulating it like every where else.

And! Plus also too....These people (the parents) are fairly wealthy. They are not refugees or illegals. They pay their own way to this wonderful place and pay the costs of the birth and pay their own way back to wherever they came from. They have lots of money. Exactly the type of non-sucking immigrant we want!

What values are threatened by these new citizens? Something to do with Pandas perhaps?

Since when has an immigrant been required to fix their country of origin first? Never. That is new and cannot possibly be a claimed heritage or historical value. That is just a thought swirling around in your head.

Over the long term it makes no great impact on Canada.

Over the long term, children of foreign nationals born here set up residency and can then apply for their aging parents to join them in Canada. So yes, over the long term it makes a difference.

Actually they are usually overseas not paying Canadian taxes.

The environment would be the most important value.

"Since when has an immigrant been required to fix their country of origin first? Never."

That is the problem with immigration. It doesn't solve anything.

it is beneficial to the people who want to bypass immigration to get here

...and then they go away and wait patiently for old age to arrive. Only then do they order their Canadian children to move the land the children cannot remember. Then those children, who are not immigrants will sponsor their parents to come here and live happily ever after.

I don't actually see a problem here.

Everything about this country which is good owes itself to money. The Left, of course, don't like to admit that but it's true. You have to have economic success before you can have anything else good, before you can have social services the Left cherishes, for example, before you can have grandiose government funded projects and programs before you can have capable educational systems and institutions, and high quality health care. The higher the number of non-payers, or freeloaders in the system, the more the system bogs down, the higher taxes are raised on those remaining and the lower productivity plunges. Bringing over ever larger hordes of third world rabble who will not contribute much, if anything to the tax base, but will consume it instead, lowers the quality of living here.

A plane ticket makes you wealthy? Investing a few thousand dollars in obtaining a Canadian passport which will be worth a fortune in future is an excellent investment for anyone. For one thing, it will allow the parents to be sponsored into Canada by their "Canadian" child one day, and get Canadian pensions and health care.

What is pseudo-citizenry?

People you insist on calling Canadian who have no connection with the country's values, history or culture, and no desire to have any.

Got a market quote for that? or are you just making stuff up?

You are making stuff up. Connection with this country's values, history or culture or the lack of desire to have any, is not a condition of citizenship. Never has been. Never will be. Birth is all that is required or perhaps swearing the citizenship after passing the test. Your fantasy requirements do not exist.

You mean just like the immigration laws allow? Where Canadians get pensions and health care? Like everyone else who is a Canadian?

Canada used to sell passports for $800,000, mostly to well heeled Chinese. This was a program had disastrous results. Nevertheless, we're thinking of doing it again. But what studies have shown is people who only want to use Canada, as opposed to becoming real citizens, contribute nothing and are actually a drain on our economy.

It damned well should be. And I bet most Canadians would agree with me.
