IF and only IF this is true, just imagine what's out there about present and past politicians! How far will the owners of the media go to get rid of Trump?

Good news if this is true....the U.S. needs to have better relations with Russia. Envelopes full of cash from Europe are not unknown for "North American" leaders.

What I don't understand is why the North American media would print any information gathered illegally and intended to weaken the United States? Be this embarrassing to the Republicans or the Democrats or the USA government, why be complicit with a foreign power in weakening the Republic?

You think that's crazy! Should look into the Clinton Foundation and how tight it is with the State Department. :D

Trump softened his position on Russia after Manafort joined his team. I guess he won't be bought by lobbyists but Putin is a different story.

I admire your optimism! No matter how bleak the news, there's always a positive way to look at it!

Headline: Trump's campaign manager on the take from pro-Putin operatives.

Positive spin: "Trump improving relations with Russia!"

Headline: Trump on pace for devastating defeat.

Positive spin: "Trump on pace to beat Mondale, McGovern!"

Headline: Increasing speculation that Trump may be mentally ill.

Positive spin: "Trump bringing increased attention to mental health issues!"

Headline: Trump proposes plan to turn people into Soylent Green.

Positive spin: "Trump announces action on homelessness!"

You just keep on reaching for that star!

Having this revealed doesn't "weaken the republic". You know what would weaken the republic? Having a President whose inner circle are in the pockets of America's biggest geopolitical rival. You don't think that's important news? You think American voters would be better served if the newspapers hid this story?

Also, this information wasn't obtained illegally, it was obtained from an anti-corruption probe in Ukraine.

If Manafort was on the take from Russia...and Trump won't release his tax returns......

Well, I'm not saying anything, but people, smart people, are going to start to wonder.

Better U.S. - Russian Federation relations are not only an American interest, but an international interest as well. Good relations with Putin are far more important than any relations with Justin Trudeau.

So if Hillary was on the take by Russia, that would just be good Russian relations?

I have a hard time believing Trump gives a rat about several millions from pro-Russian Ukrainians, or what his campaign manager has to say generally. This could be a story what kind of influence would it really have on Trump's policies or rhetoric? This man answers to nobody but his own ego...which is one of the reasons why he'd be frightening in the White House. Who would hold him accountable?.

Clinton is already on the take from many others. Hillary Clinton is hated far more in Russia than Donald Trump.

...The major Ukrainian donor tp the Clinton Foundation—who, between 2009 and 2013, generously gave $9 million—was Ukrainian oligarch Viktor Pinchuk, the son-in-law of the country’s former President Leonid Kuchma.

This might explain why neither the old corrupt Ukrainian government nor the new corrupt government haven’t hurt Viktor Pinchuk’s business interests, said Sergei Markov, Russian politician and Putin’s confidant. “I think that Ukrainian oligarchs were trying to bribe Hillary Clinton—especially at the time of Maidan, when she was the State Secretary,” he explained.

Let's see, the US does $24 billion in bi-latteral trade with Russia and $600 billion with Canada. You must be a Trump supporter, it doesn't have to make sense, it doesn't even have to be remotely logical, just as long as it fits your sick ideology.

Russia is a far more significant player in geo-politics than is Canada, which has neither the means or will to "get a seat at the table". I don't "support" Trump or Clinton, whatever that means as a U.S. citizen or not.

Since Canada is far more dependent on U.S. export markets and investment capital, it has very little leverage over U.S. policies/decisions. Russia can directly compete with U.S. interests and influence....Canada can only dream about doing so.

Unlike Putin, Canada's PM is at best an Obama "poodle".

What would really weaken the republic is if countries like Russia, China, PRK and Iran had dirt on Hillary - such as compromising emails.

Freedom of the press is all about being free to criticize, expose corruption, etc.

The media are not supposed to be a lackey of the state.

That happens here too. Our media is no different.

It's amazingly hypocritical that the people who complained that Obama couldn't be tough on Putin are dead silent about this. Conservatives would be tripping all over themselves to condemn a liberal involved in any of this. Once again, partisanship trumps principles.

You're amazed that American politics is dominated by partisanship rather than principles? Really?

I'm amazed that people are blinded partisanship, not the politicians and campaign workers.

Not just conservative Americans.... Conservatives on this forum.

Remember the braying on this forum about Trudeau and Russia? Will these same conservatives criticize Trump? Clearly not.

Sadly, partisanship is not limited to conservatives, but is found across the entire political spectrum.
