An example of how screwed up health care is in Ontario

Recommended Posts

Non urgent MRI's are supposed to have a target wait time of 90% within 28 days. In the Ottawa region its actually 132 days. And as the columnist points out, people waiting for MRIs are also forced to wait for treatment until they get them. The problem is the province does not actually pay for MRI machines. Hospitals have to fund raise to get them. And they get no special money to operate them either. Some machines are operated 24hrs a day while others are only operated 16 or 8 hrs due to lack of funds. Meanwhile there's little organization behind scheduling who gets them and when.

This is not a recent problem. It's been ongoing for many years with no solution in sight.

A lot has been accomplished over the past several years with better scheduling and sharing of resources, but yes there are still major issues to tackle. It is important to note that 'non-urgent' is very misleading. There are four priority levels for MRI scheduling, and the 132 days is the lowest of those priorities. The biggest problem is the Ottawa hospital that brings the average way up, it is over twice as long as the next one on the list. Perhaps there needs to be another machine, and technicians at that hospital. Provincially we still have a long way to go as well, the provincial average is 102 days, and only one location in the province is below the 28 day goal. If you are willing to travel, then I suggest going to the following locations:

Quinte Healthcare Corporation - 25 days

Pembroke Regional Hospital Inc. - 33 days
Ross Memorial Hospital - 33 days
Sault Area Hospital - 33 days
Northumberland Hills Hospital - 34 days
University of Ottawa Heart Institute - 35 days
Bluewater Health -36 days
Markham Stouffville Hospital - 37 days
St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton - 38 days
Stratford General Hospital - 41 days

It is not just ontario that is failing in health care.

In Canada we very much have a two teir system .

The general public wait their turn and hope for the best while the rich go to the U.S and get the best treatment money can buy.

Go to the ER with internal bleeding, spend 5 days on a stretcher in the hallway. Such is life in Ontario's third world health care system.

'Stretcher' does sound Third World but I suspect she was in a hospital bed in the ER and was being monitored.

Thanks to all of this massive third world immigration is the reason why our health care system is in crisis mode. But just saying that is being racist, right?

Just buy a third party scan and skip all the wait list nonsense. It's only a measley $850 on average....cheap !

Maybe all Canadians that need an operation or whatever else should be able to go to the States and get what is needed done, and send the bill to the government. Pay here, pay there, I see no difference. Of course with all of this massive third world immigration nonsense going on is not helping our health care system at all but appears to be assisting in trying to bankrupt it. Dam politicians cause more problems than solve any problems. I think that they like to create crisis and then pretend that they are going to try and fix it. Our politicians appear to do a lot more talking in parliament than solving anything. Most politicians should be laid off if only we the people could lay most of them off. But the fix is in so this can never happen.
