Why is it a U.S. responsibility to control North Korea ?    What has China or Canada done ?

The same reason they sent some missiles in at Assad. Who else will step up and contain this odious little fat boy?  China? Russia? Don't even get me started with Prince Justin.

Who is there to lead the world right now? the EU?

Russia has shown it supports Assad. It has on each and every instance Assad has used chemical weapons enabled him to do so. Why would they do anything moral? Who Putin who murders in cold blood anyone who questions him in broad day light? Vlad the Impaler world leader? Yah right. China? What the phack has China ever done to advocate for human rights anywhere in the world let alone its own country. China? China a country that crushed Tibet? China a country that illegally invaded Vietnamese territorial waters and illegally seized its islands for oil extraction? China a country that openly flaunts the laws of the open seas and has sat back and protected not just North Korea but  Syria and Iran. China a country that financed and enabled the genocide of South Sudanese?

China does what it does to protect its financial interests. It has zero I repeat zero moral compass. Is not a world leader. Its a world cancer. It uses its state monopoly and cheap slave labour to manipulate world markets.

So who does that leave, the UN? The EU?

You saw what Trump had to do in Syria and he will eventually have to do something with fat boy in North Korea.. I am preaching to the converted. You know damn well he has to step up because the entire world will not. The UN and EU  will talk but it won't do a damn thing. What China give a damn there is mass famine in North Korea while their puppet fat boy overdoses on cheese and chocolate? China a nation where Mao killed over 20 million and people are starving in its North? China a moral compass? China a country where slave labour is controlled by a government that assures only 1% of its population control everything?

Bottom line-Obama drew a supposed line in the sand about Syria using chemical weapons, then Assad crossed the line and repeatedly used chemical weapons and chlorine gas, and Obama did nothing. This was yet another example of Obama being a weak laughing stock. Obama enabled Assad and Putin and China to move into the Middle East and ally with Syria and Iran because of his open indication he pulled the US off world stage as a police officer. The vacuum Obama's foreign policy created is there for all to see.

Trump's response with a measured missile attack had to happen. It screamed out for someone to do something.

Thank God Trump did.

I go back to Iraq. I always supported US military presence in Iraq to get rid of Hussein.. I did not agree with using Haliburton and private mercenaries to stay and bloat themselves son corrupt government contracts and violate all kinds of international laws  but I agree swith the US military taking out Hussein and stand by their actions in Iraq.. This crap he had no deadly weapons of mass destruction. Or horse crap. he used mustard gas on innocent Kurds. Gas is a deadly weapon of mass destruction. Hussein as far as I am concerned had to be taken out and the UN would not do a damn thing. The UN is in ineffective useless appendage. Its controlled by morally corrupt human right violating nations.

People may not like Trump but whether we like it or not  he has to be supported as does the US as world leader. The vacuum created by Obama pulling the US off world stage as world police officer has empowered Russia and China and terrorists.

Russia and China could care less if that little fat boy in Pyongpeng continues to starve millions of North Koreans and shoots missiles out. Fat boy is a danger to Japan, South Korea, The Phillippines, Vietnam. Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand,  Indonesia and each day makes farting noises at the US which the US has shown remarkable restraint when dealing with his idiocy.

The US must lead because no one else will. It has to because someone has to do the right thing and let's now get very real-Canada? Canada defaulted and pulled itself off the world map as a leader when it chose to have no military. We chose to strip ourselves of a navy, cripple our military and airforce and cut their budgets.

A nation can not lead with no genuine military. Trudeau can make little squeeking noises and send good men to Iraq and God bless what they do because they do a great job but that does not entitle him to call himself a world statesman. He's a bit player-an arm chair leftist millionaire like his father-spewing socialist principles while living off a rich boy trust fund. He's never seen a massacre, a terrorist attack, starvation. He's a little rich boy with a silver spoon wedged up his sheltered arse.

Trump? He's a spoiled rich boy too but he is surrounded by experienced military men and he has shown someone has the courage to do something.

I hate a lot of things Trump says and does. I fully support him bring back the US as world leader. I do not want the US to be isolationist. Woodrow Wilson I believe was wrong when this isolationist crap of his started.

I am not asking the US return to the days of Teddy Roosevelt but his cousin FDR showed, if the US is not on wo rld stage, terrorists and Hitlers flourish. As strong as Churchill was he could not have contained Hitler or dealt with Stalin on his own let alone Japan.

With due respect to the UK it can't do a thing on world stage at this time.

How can this Canadian and other international expectations of the United States exist concurrently with strong opposition to American interventionist foreign policy and "illegal aggression" ?

Why do Trudeau / Canada (and other nations) get a pass ?

They should not but you know that has been the case since WW2.

The US is being tested simultaneously in both Syria and North Korea. This was inevitable. Trump signalled the 8 years of do nothing is over. So of course they tested. Putin got a  message now the question is did China?

Putin is to Assad what China is tot he fat boy in North Korea. You know that. Putin was given his message at the very time China was visiting.

I like the timing. Coincidence? All I know is Rex Tillerson didn't become the no.1 at Exxon because he Is timid. That man looks like he eats an entire raw cow for dinner each night. I don't think Putin or China will much frighten him when he travels to these countries. People may rightfully say Trump is a bafoon but Tillerson is as cold and brutal as Putin. He's an excellent match. He can handle him. Look you either get behind the US multi-nationals empire, the Russian mob, or Chinese government monolith.  I look at Rex as Grizzly bear, Putin as a Hyena and China as a boa constrictor. They'z all dangerous if you turn yer back on them and I myself think people who cozy up to China are nuts.  That boa moves in whe you let your guard down and presto yer swallowed. No thanks.  Its swallowing up everything because it moves in and cuddles before it inhales.

Well, that's why I don't take criticism (or "support") from Canada very seriously.  It has very little skin in the game.

Deadbeats want the USA to act, and then sit back to watch it all on American television.

Its fair criticism. Until Canada is willing to commit to 2% gnp defence spending the US has  a right to criticize it as it is other NATO nations for the same reason.

Between you and me I doubt anyone in Washington could give a sheeyat what Canada thinks.

Trudeau's approach is we can maintain a depleted armed forces and still be a NATO member because he feels the limited roles we do are important. That lacks credibility. Its just a sound bite to justify not spending money on our military.

He in fact  endangers our soldiers by not properly recruiting, equipping and paying them and over extending what hew military resources he has amd then wants credit for it like its the equivalent of what the US offers NATO. Of course its contradictory.

Just don't blame the soldiers. Our lame duck Defence Minister barely can conceal his embarrassment at what he is asked to say and do.

That said while  I don't think we should criticize the US for being a world police power, how it does that is fair game.

If innocent civilians are killed, any army is subject to criticism and scrutiny. I just disagree with the selective approach where China and Russia and terrorists are treated with silence and only the US and Israeli armed forces appear to be criticized on this planet by the UN.

I also think the US Armed Forces can handle any criticism thrown its way.

I think it was unfair they were lambasted in Iraq for a good job and blamed for Haliburton self-employed mercenaries. or CIA contractors who in by opinion were a disgrace. In fact the US armed forces had many officers challenge what they were doing and pre-empted by Rumsfeld and Chaney the Haliburton boys.

Never again should the US military be used as a secondary force for Haliburton or any other private contractor's else's interests in the field. That's another issue.

You've heard me say it many times-the US Navy saves more non American  lives at sea every year than any other organization. That alone should be commended.

I do give some kudos to the Italian navy as well with all the migrants coming in from Africa. Now imagine China or Russia doing that. Hah.

It has nothing to do with nukes. Canada doesn't need nukes to do what it is doing in Iraq or when it did its air mission in Libya. Nukes don't give respect-the quality and operational ability of your armed forces and their missions do.

What the US has criticized is Canada does not handle a fair load of operations in NATO or even along our coastal waters or in the air. Its bever complained about Canada not being a nuke power. What absurd comments. What you think that little obese toad in North Korea is credible because he claims to have nukes and shoot missiles in their air? You think a country is credible because they have nukes?

You mix up terms. You think being a threat makes one credible but the two are not one and the same.

Hey now I don't believe you or North Korean radio. Boring stuff.  You rexercise of blaming the US for what has happened in the ME and the world - its a hoot.

Scapegoating the US for the troubles of the world is a tad overdone. I have said it many times on this forum. It is the fault of the island nation of Tonga.

I assume that China and Russia will engage in "coordinated cries of anguish and nicely orchestrated hand-wringing" (original phrase by William Safire, a New York Times columnist, in the December 11, 1980 issue [link]). Otherwise they won't do much.

Taking something seriously is nothing about respect.

Last autumn, one day I walked into my backyard. When I turned around the corner of my house, I found I was just one foot away from Mrs. Chipmunk, who was just about to go around the corner to my side. Totally taking by surprise, Mrs. Chipmunk dropped the nut she was carrying and jumped onto the top of fence. Then she begin to hiss to me as if I was going to steal her precious nut. I laughed, not taking her threat seriously, but I walked away to let her retrieve her nut.

I shot this video in last summer. You can see at about 0:37, the bear turned her head staring at me for a moment, knowing I was following her. I stopped to stalk her at once. I took the warning seriously.

My different attitude against the bear and the chipmunk doesn't mean I respected a bear but a chipmunk. It's just about how much damage I would suffer if they really attacked me.

I don't know. In English, people used to use female pronouns on animals, so I entitled the chipmunk Mrs. to match the pronouns.

This is another example of "not taking something seriously".

If this chipmunk was the Mouse King in the Nutcracker story and capable to shrink me into a toy sized figure when I was sleeping, I would definitely take the matter seriously and find out what gender it was before calling it King Chipmunk or Queen Chipmunk.:)

On the news yesterday, an US Intel.military agent said that a nuke war is very close to happening and that clock is at 3 minutes before 12 and many people don't realize this. Do u believe this?

It seems N. Korea is a very unstable place.  I heard many people in South Korea are christians.  In fact I heard they supply more missionaries than any other country in the world.  I don't know if that's a fact or not, but I can understand living under the threat of North Korea could make one nervous.  I hope and pray there will be no war with N. Korea.  I think the U.S. has to find a way to negotiate with them to find a meaningful solution.  I don't think there is a military solution.  War would be catastrophic.  The number of people killed in Seoul, South Korea could be in the millions, not to mention the number in N. Korea and other places.  It could also draw China in.

Six Party Talks

Quote

2nd phase (27 Sep – 30 Sep 2007)

Objectives achieved

  • Reports from working groups heard and endorsed.
  • Implementation of initial actions of February 13, 2007 Agreement confirmed
  • List of Second Phase Actions for Implementation of Joint Statement issued 2 October 2007.[57]
    • DPRK agreed to disable all nuclear facilities subject to September 2005 Joint Statement and February 13 Agreement, including the disablement of three facilities at Yongbyan by 31 December 2007: the 5 MW Experimental Reactor, the Reprocessing Plant, and the Nuclear Fuel Rod Fabrication Facility.
    • The DPRK agreed to provide a complete and correct declaration of all its nuclear programs in accordance with the February 13 agreement by 31 December 2007.
    • The DPRK and the United States will increase bilateral exchanges and enhance mutual trust. The U.S. will fulfill its commitments to the DPRK (regarding the processes of removing the designation of the DPRK as a state sponsor of terrorism, and that of terminating the application of the Trading with the Enemy Act to the DPRK) in parallel with the DPRK's actions, as based on consensus reached at the meetings of the Working Group on Normalization of DPRK-U.S. Relations.
    • The DPRK and Japan will hold intensive consultations to make sincere efforts to normalize their relations expeditiously in accordance with the Pyongyang Declaration.
    • In accordance with the February 13 agreement, economic, energy and humanitarian assistance up to the equivalent of one million tons of HFO (inclusive of the 100,000 tons of HFO already delivered) will be provided to the DPRK. Specific modalities will be finalized through discussion by the Working Group on Economy and Energy Cooperation.[58]
    • The Parties reiterated that the Six-Party Ministerial Meeting will be held in Beijing at an appropriate time.
  • A final meeting was decided on before the end of 2007.[59] However, this was never realized because despite the DPRK issuing a report of its inventory in November 2007 and thus claiming that since it fulfilled its side of the bargain, it was waiting for its promised shipment of aid, the US claimed the inventory list was definitely incomplete and until the complete list was given by the DPRK, aid would be suspended. There have been numerous US-DPRK bilateral meetings held in Beijing and Geneva since the end of this phase of this round of talks.
