Actually, more and more of the media is coming to understand that those who call themselves 'antifascists' are fascists too, and condemning them as such.

This is a good article.   I'd never heard of the antifa before the last couple of months, but am dismayed by it's actions, as dismayed as I am with the Nazi and WS movement that continues to grow.    But if this quote, from the linked article, is true, then we aren't likely to see a reduction in confrontation and violence any time soon.

Quote

Antifa’s perceived legitimacy is inversely correlated with the government’s. Which is why, in the Trump era, the movement is growing like never before. As the president derides and subverts liberal-democratic norms, progressives face a choice.

I had never heard of them either until very recently. Same with alt right, alt left etc. Amazing how trump can increase the profile of these terms.

Maybe his effect is actually in raising extremism generally?

His effect is to polarise.  When sides are picked, extremism comes more easily.

Meet the clergy who stared down white supremacists in Charlottesville

This one is interesting too.

The actions of clergy ... and Antifa.

The white supremacists went there to do violence, did violence the night before their scheduled rally.

They always deserve to be shut down and run out of town.

And they are being shut down.

I believe their growth is being interfered with. :D

From @dialamah 's link:

Antifa traces its roots to the 1920s and ’30s, when militant leftists battled fascists in the streets of Germany, Italy, and Spain.

[Local note: 1930's Toronto, Christie Pits 'riot' was Italian (ballplayers) anti-fascists backing up their Jewish friends (the ballplayers on the opposing team) against the intruding white supremacist nazi fascists.]

When fascism withered after World War II, antifa did too. But in the ’70s and ’80s, neo-Nazi skinheads began to infiltrate ... and ... young leftists, including many anarchists and punk fans, revived the tradition of street-level antifascism.

In the late ’80s, left-wing punk fans in the United States began following suit, though they initially called their groups Anti-Racist Action, ... these activists toured with popular alternative bands in the ’90s, trying to ensure that neo-Nazis did not recruit their fans.

... Trump ... For antifa, the result has been explosive growth. ... “Suddenly,” noted the antifa-aligned journal It’s Going Down, “anarchists and antifa, who have been demonized and sidelined by the wider Left have been hearing from liberals and Leftists, ‘you’ve been right all along.’ ”

"right" in that fascism must be squashed.

Speaking of quotes from your article...

If you believe the president of the United States is leading a racist, fascist movement that threatens the rights, if not the lives, of vulnerable minorities, how far are you willing to go to stop it?

Contrast this with the right wing conviction that the left is nothing less than a 5th column of, commies, Nazis and Islamists...threatening everyone's rights and lives...

It is fascinating that Donald Trump, mocked and ridiculed by many Canadians only a year ago, has now infiltrated their collective psyche so deeply.

History has been re-written....Canada's age old racism comes from....Donald Trump.

Amazing.

Nope, it's America's age old racism being revitalized by....Donald Trump. I was going to say resurrected, but it never has really died down there.

First Nations in Canada know who screwed them, and they know it was not Donald Trump.

Of course, Natives in the US were screwed long before Donald showed up. And you people even celebrate a slave owner on your currency. A number of them actually.

And it is about bloody time. If the mainstream liberal media want to appear as though they have any credibility left at all than they better start trying to report and get the other side of the story. The other side of the story that they have been trying very hard not to have to report on but would much rather prefer to report and tell false stories about the other side.

Amazing.

Gays can have pride parades. Blacks can have pride parades. Latinos can have pride parades. Communist can even have parades, and no one will attack them from the conservative movement. But if a group of pro American white nationalists try to have a parade or rally the chit hits the fan and they will get attacked and beaten by a bunch of communist red guard thugs and the lying media. It is for sure that racism is alive and well in America and it is being done against pro-American white nationalists.

Amazing.

Indeed....but white nationalists have the constitutional right to march and protests in the U.S.

Not so good for them in Canada, where freedom has been traded away for "peace".

Oh, I get phased all right.  You're free to make excuses for avowed race haters and murders, as I am free to defend people born into a religion that happens to include extremists.

Poor misunderstood Islam. It just wants PEACE for all...but that nasty DogOnPorch portrays it as some sort of evil death cult whose holy book...he claims...backs-up his conviction.

What an Islamophobe....!

Sound about right? Want to play the Dead Pool as to which city gets enriched next?

Hmmmmm....I'll pick Newark...kind of a long-shot at 20-1.

Doesn't phase em? The western world has spent trillions of dollars over trying to mitigate that problem... sure they have spent it really stupidly and made the problem much worse... but you cant say it doesn't "phase" them.
