Dictators abound, democracy retreats

Recommended Posts

The pope warns of the winds of war blowing.  The US Marine Corps. Commandant warns Marines in Norway "There's a war coming".

And the only strong leaders in the world are dictators who blow.

Putin, Xi Jinping, Erdogan, Duterte, Ali Khamenei, Kim Jon-un, all stirring and wanting more power and influence in the world. And against them what? Europe is filled with a misbegotten collection of cobbled together governments ruled by inept, small-minded people of no real substance. America is run by an appalling ignoramus with the sulky temperament of a child who is clearly suffering early dementia. Canada.... uh, best not even talk about that.

Under Donald Trump, the United States has abdicated any claim to global leadership. The field has been ceded to Vladimir Putin, who closed the year by nullifying the candidacy of his primary electoral opponent, Alexei Navalny, who was then immediately placed under investigation for proposing a boycott of the upcoming phony March 18 elections. The torch has been passed to Xi Jinping, whose 2,280 lieutenants at the October’s 19th Communist Party Congress affirmed his elaborate scheme to remake the world in his own image and likeness. The reins have been handed to Iran’s lyncher-in-chief Hassan Rouhani, who openly gloats over the Obama administration’s folly in surrendering the people of Syria to Iran in exchange for a nuclear deal that isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. And in exchange for remaining a nominal NATO “ally,” Turkish strongman Recip Erdogan is permitted to spend his time undisturbed as he jails journalists and opposition leaders, terrorizes Turkey’s Kurds and lounges around his opulent new $650 million presidential palace, barking orders like some latter-day Ottoman caliph.

Oh FFS...

I told Argus this renaissance of dictatorships would happen years ago - as a result of the vast moral vacuum the Shiny Beacons created by wheeling and dealing with dictatorships.

Of course back then Argus, along with most right-wing conservatives  said we had no choice but to deal with them. If we didn't our so-called enemies would and our beloved corporations and economy would suffer. ANYONE  from the left who has pointed this out has been dismissed out of hand by the Argus' of the world.

I call bullshit, the concern in the OP is as phony as a three dollar bill.

Might want to back off Turkey, they ARE a NATO member, let's not forget that.

Nominally, but it's doubtful they would honor their commitments if Erdogan saw that his interests lay in not doing so. And he's not only been very chummy with Putin of late he has basically copied his playbook on how to turn a weak democracy into a dictatorship with only a pretense of democratic institutions. He might find that Turkey has more to gain siding with the Russians in any military confrontation with the West, rather than NATO.

Donald Trump has balls that many other so called leaders do not have. That was why Trump was elected as the US president and most powerful man in the world. In comparison Putin is a murderer. He murdered the defenseless innocent civilians in Chechnia and God knows what other atrocities he committed when he was the chief of the KGB. In fact Russian actions in the history is very clear. They always supported murders and dictators like themselves.

1 - Russians massacred defenseless innocent people of Afghanistan for years.

2 - Russians massacred defenseless innocent people of Chechnya for years.

3 - Russians sucked the blood of Eastern Europeans for decades.

4 - Russians sucked the blood of their own people for decades and sent many to Siberia to die because they simply oppossed Russian muderous leaders. That is why now they also support muderous regimes.

5 - Russians threatened the world with total destruction and death for decades.

Down with Russia and Death to Russian dictators.

There is always war between the Good (the US and the West) and the evil (Russians, Nazi Germany, Middle Eastern dictatorships). I prefer to see the Good to be the lone superpower. And there were two superpowers between early 50's to lates 89's. In the 90's US of A was strong enough to crush Russians into pieces but they didn't. US defeated Germany and the Western part under US revived to become an economic power in Europe again whereas the eatern part was sucked out of blood and remained poor until Belin wall fell. Many similar examples in the history how US helped and Russians sucked.

Down with Russia and Death to Russians.

The moral of the story here is no one country should be the sole superpower in the world and in the region. It causes more instability.

There was a moment in time where the USA had the B-36 Peacemaker bomber, the Bomb and the ability to strike...without significant warning...anywhere on the globe.

The Russians/Soviets were still struggling to copy the B-29 Superfortress into the Tupolev 4...let alone strap a nuclear weapon to the thing. The Mya-4 Bison and Tu-16 Badger (early Russian jet bombers)...still in rushed development...still a few years yet from deployment...and they couldn't reach the USA and return to the USSR!

The USA didn't take that opportunity to take over the world. They sure COULD have.

Stalin and Beria were certainly evil. However, once they were gone, things did start looking-up for the average Soviet citizen. Each strongman that followed was a tad more reasonable...not saying much for Khrushchev...drunk often.

Even during brezhnev Russians would have run over Western Europe if they could. He was the one who invaded Afghanistan and massacred many thousands of Afghan civilians. Granted Brezhnev wasn't as muderous as the ones before him.

Yes but you also said a tad more reasonable rather than less murderous. None were reasonable so more reasonable is not applicable. Lets show these damn Russians for what they are. Muderous dictators supporting their own kind in the world.

So the total idiot opportunist Obama had a brain? He (Obama the idiot) sold out the weak and underdogs and the whole worid to leave a legacy for himself. Trump is saying what is CORRECT not what is politically correct like yourself Argus, have dared to say what is correct on many occasions.

Obama was highly intelligent, articulate and knowledgeable. What he lacked was the intestinal fortitude to push in people's faces when necessary, and to wheel and deal with congress, which he regarded as undignified.  He might have been something with a dozen more years in congress to acquire an understanding of how things worked.

Trump is a moron who knows less about the world than your average 12 year old. He is a blustering, narcissistic bully who lacks any interest in things that don't immediately bring him pleasure, like food and women and praise from suckup followers. He doesn't read books. He won't even read briefing notes. He simply doesn't care about complicated things. A staffer tried to explain the constitution to him and he quickly  got bored, like a squirming child.

“Everybody in his rich-guy social circle knew about his wide-ranging ignorance,” wrote Wolff. “Early in the campaign, Sam Nunberg was sent to explain the Constitution to the candidate.”

“I got as far as the Fourth Amendment,” Nunberg told Wolff, “before his finger is pulling down on his lip and his eyes are rolling back in his head.”

Tony Schwartz — ghostwriter of Trump’s biggest-selling book, The Art of the Dealhas said in the past that Trump has “the attention span of a kindergartner.”

“It’s impossible to keep him focused on any topic, other than his own self-aggrandizement, for more than a few minutes,” said Schwartz, who regrets his role in helping craft the myth of Trump as a brilliant businessman.

Not really. It's because of lack of options. His opponent was Hillary Establishment and people had enough of that. The turn out, as usual was abysmal.

Trump does not have balls. He just plays one on twitter. He's the biggest sycophant out there. Look at the announcement to move the capital of Israel to Jerusalem. His masters, namely Sheldon Adelson and Haim Saban, the Israeli Billionaires who fund politicians ordered him to do this.

Trump has no balls. He's a reality tv star.

Trump made quite a few speeches that American politicians have been avoiding to be politically correct but American public wanted to hear and vote for someone to act on their concerns. Take his stand on immigration for example. Many agreed with what he said and is doing now. Take her stand on banning several Middle Eastern nations. Although I personally do not agree with ban based on nationality but this was a major concern for US citizens after several terrorist attacks on US soil. Trump also has the balls and intelligence to support liberation movements in the world unlike Obama who signed a pack with the devil to leave a legacy.

There were options before the election itself. Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio to name a few. All defeated.

I think you've identified one of the key points of his platform that makes Donald Trump stand out, and seemingly to stand alone among today's politicians. He knew the right things to say about immigration during the election campaign. And he followed through on some of his promises. The travel ban only makes sense in light of this. It is NOT a Muslim ban, of course, as other Muslim nations don't fall under those restrictions. The proposed wall is an extension of existing walls and fences already in place, some parts built under Obama.

The (Obama) bill called for the deployment of an additional 700 miles of fencing and technology along the U.S.-Mexico border – the same area Trump’s border wall would cover. The plan also devoted $40 billion over a decade to border enforcement measures and would double the number of border agents.

It is all too easy to forget the facts when bombarded daily by insane, baseless media attacks.
