Yes.  He wasn't politically astute about that and they made mincemeat out of him.

"Scary Muslim' campaign ?

Another way of saying he took a very winnable election and blew it.

The Liberal party basically took the position that Tory's plan would result in Muslim jihad terrorist training camps in every neighborhood, funded by the government. It was blatantly bigoted and very effective.

Too funny (in a sad way).  There really is NO moral "high" ground in politics today - only a question of how low a party or leader can sink. Witnessing the Liberals fiscally disastrous last 10 years and their frantic efforts to buy the upcoming election on the back of yet more debt is a testament to the depths that these Liberal rascals can stoop to. Add that to the overt lies that catapulted the fresh, new "transparent" Trudeau government to power and Doug Ford is looking like a breath of fresh air.

By the way - there's been a lot of speculation and second-hand information that Ford was somehow involved in dealing hash 30 years ago - but the fact is, he was never even charged with anything, let alone being accused of being a criminal.

Indeed. If Doug had been charged with anything, I am pretty sure that the leftist liberal fake media would have that all up front and center for all to see. Still waiting. The liberals are pretty much professional liars and that is how they try to gain power by lying. They try to spread lies about their opponents and make it appear as though they give a darn about we the people to try and win an election with the help of their lying liberal media. Liberals like to pretend that they are not bigots and they say that they are the most tolerant people on earth and tolerate other people's opinions and points of view. But in reality and from their history they have all shown us that they truly are a bunch of bigots and very intolerant of people who will not agree with them. Why is it that the people do not ever see this charade? Doug indeed is a bit of fresh air compared to the woman that leads Ontario now. Doug appears to be a people's person.

It's just one poll, but the numbers are pretty drastic.  It's entirely possible that Ontario's first look at Ford didn't go well.

Then again, it's entirely possible that Wynne's vote buying promises went well and those promises are enticing voters. If I was 25 and starting a family, I would be wooed by the promise of free child care and other goodies dangled before my eyes. When you're 25 do you really care where the money is coming from to pay for those programs, especially if you pay no income taxes at all?

I think back when Trudeau Senior was PM and I was a lowly public service clerk, he gave me large pay increases. Think 8 to 12%. I did not give a hoot how those pay raises would be paid or who would pay for them. In exchange he won my vote.

As for Ford, it may not be what he is doing or not doing, even the fact he stepped in it saying he would reduce the CBC budget. Big deal, he made a mistake. It's that Wynne and her Liberals are opting to have a fire sale in order to increase their chances of staying in power. At first glance it appears to be working.

It's actually kind of shocking that someone wanting to be premier would have no clue about such things.  Ontarians may, upon their first look, be genuinely surprised at how much of an idiot he is.  Then the choice becomes one between ... well, you know ...

Shocking to you perhaps. I suspect many residents of Ontario probably do not know who funds the CBC.

I suppose he is at that level, ie. that of "many residents" of Ontario.

Is it any worse than PM Trudeau publicly proclaiming that Canada has just celebrated its 100th birthday when it was actually 150th?

It feels like a repeat of the last Ontario election. An old government in desperate need of replacement and the main contender is trying its best to make change unpalatable.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that was just a slip of the tongue not a major political leader not understanding a basic funding model.  How could he not know that ?

If Ford just made a slip of the tongue then I don't think it's an issue at all, btw.

Honestly, it is very difficult for a conservative politicians to compete provincially in Canada because of how the government is structured.  Liberals and NDP are socialist and progressive so can always role out a new goodie if they are down in the polls.  The conservatives are a one trick pony they have round in the chamber of tax cuts, and if they fire it, they blow up their claim of being fiscally responsible and not having deficit (no conservative government in Ontario has not run a deficit as far as I can remember back to the Harris-Eve days).

So at the end of the day the left can offer

-free dental

-free university/college

-free medical

-free prescriptions

-free child care

-and more free services.

The conservatives provincial cannot compete.  At least federally they can lower your taxes to some degree or give you tax credits. Our provincial taxes are just 13%, so not much to cut there.  A 5% tax cut is still not very much to an individual.

Say What?

PM doesn't know how old the country is.....after all the 150 celebrations....just shows you how out of touch with reality he is.

Ford wanting to save tax payers money....even if it's not his baliwick....hardly even compares. Thpugh of course spending tax dollars is opium to the leftist masses.

You missed it.  One is a slip of the tongue and one is a complete lack of knowledge.

I think Doug actually does know where their funding comes from, but got mixed up on which election he's running in. He'll get to that when he's PM.

That gaffe by Trudeau Jr. is just another in a long list of gaffes. It's just another indication that his government doesn't know what it's doing.

It's a slip of the tongue.  If someone can show that Ford did the same thing, then I would let it pass.

Trudeau's gaffe was not a "slip of the tongue". Watch the video - no one could just ignore having said that. He's just not that bright. At least Ford has street smarts. It remains to be seen how well that will work for him.....but a poll of 728 people with the Liberals still 7 points behind after all those bribes is nothing to be smug about.

Funny how the media is focusing on where Ford will find savings from money that we already HAVE - but think nothing of Wynne's 7 billion deficit (and counting) - money that we DON'T have. The only certainty of cuts and increased taxes will come with a re-election of the Liberals because when the Banker's come for their money, it won't be pretty.

Ok, I'll accept "Gaffe".  Fine.  It's still not the same as someone wanting to be premier somehow believing he will have control over CBC funding.

"At least Ford has street smarts" is a nonsensical assertion.  How can you prove such a thing ?

Now he's looking at a minority government...

First - it's really more than a gaffe - the Liberals just finished spending a half Billion dollars on our 150th. If he wasn't taught about 1`867, perhaps he could have remembered the celebratory bill.  He's not that bright (I'm being kind). You're putting too much hope in your poll of 728 people - so much so that it's gotten comical. Funny how Liberals will revert to "it's only one poll" when it goes the other way. After all the bribes, even THAT poll has then STILL behind by 7 points.

1.  How many times did he say "Canada 150" ?  Dozens.  Hundreds.  He knows the age of the country even if he misspoke it once.  To come up with an idea that you will change CBC funding is a lot more than saying the wrong word.  I also concur that Trudeau isn't that bright, and I'm not a fan of his.

2. I actually said above "It's just one poll" above.  Scroll up and see.

On the important points, we agree - Trudeau is not very bright - and it's only one poll. Your story about Ford and the CBC is fake news - unless you can show us a mainstream news piece to the contrary. For heaven's sake, the CBC would have jumped all over it. Here's the exact quote - though somehow I don't think you'll care that much.........

Quote

And in response to a question from a CBC reporter:

"My pals at the CBC: I know a way to cut some money."

Wow.  You are correct.  I can't find an MSM cite, so I may have fallen for 'fake news' :o

Just another example of how these things can propagate through cyberspace via twitter and it's re-tweets, online posts and forums......it's a crazy place out there.
