The carbon tax isn't really a new tax.  Taxes on fuel have existed for decades; it is just a different name for the same thing.  And it could be worse.  Norway taxes internal combustion engines at up to 100%.  That is not a new ideas.  New Zealand brought in a similar tax in the 1970s taxing any car with an engine size over 1000 cc.

No matter what it is called. A tax is a tax is a tax. Most are just created to rob we the people out of our hard earned money. The amount of taxes, permits, levees, and licenses needed and required is astronomical, and not to forget all the rules and regulations that have been dumped on the taxpayer's of Canada where many are just implemented to stop growth. The majority of it all is just plain theft from we the people. I do not care what they do in other countries. I live in Canada and carbon taxes are just another money grab from the thieves in Ottawa who are being allowed to run and ruin this once great nation into the ground. Environmentalism is just one big rip off of a scam. Deplorable. :(

Taxes have long been used as a way to control behaviour.  That is why so-called "sin taxes" like those on alcohol and tobacco are so high.  If it is the goal of the government to encourage people to use less fuel then taxation is one method that is almost certainly going to be used.

More taxes and more rules and regulations are indeed controlling our behaviour. More environmental rules and regulations and more taxes are forcing us all to have to give up a lot of our freedoms and do indeed stunt the growth of the economy. "Sin taxes" were implemented by the government because they knew that they could make and take plenty of money from we the people. It had nothing to do with controlling behaviour. We probably drink more alcohol today then we did a century ago. All levels of government make billions from booze taxes.

Again, taxes like carbon taxes are just another tax grab and nothing more so tax gas. Yet some of they the people believe our politicians when our politicians say to them that they must protect the environment. It's not the environment that we should be protecting or worried about. It should be more like we should be trying to protect we the people from the spend crazy politician thieves who know that they are stealing plenty of our money for so many useless programs and agendas that are not needed in Canada.                        Government "IS"  the problem.  :(

If higher carbon is increasing the greenhouse effect, why is it snowing in places it shouldn’t be?  The sun’s cycles are driving climate, not CO2!

I generally find that people who ask that sort of question don't really want an answer, but here goes.  First, the amount of solar energy reaching the Earth each day is constant.  Snow in Greece does not mean that the entire earth is getting colder, just as above zero temperatures today in Edmonton are not absolute proof of global warming.  It is the overall averages that matter.  In other words, have global temperatures gotten warmer in the last few decades?  The answer is yes.

As for solar activity causing global warming; that theory has been pretty much disproved.  In fact the link you supplied clearly states that solar output is almost constant over the 11 year solar cycles and if you read the article carefully, it does not state in any way that solar activity is responsible for the increase in global temperatures over the last three decades.  Here is a link to another article discussing the same issue.
