Why not equality of outcomes?

Because it's impossible.

If the population of the Earth was two maybe.  Three max.

After that, forget it.

Equality of Outcome = Marxism/Communism.

A proven killer....and some folks are always more equal than others...oddly enough.

Communism doesn't work.  It kills incentive and ingenuity.  Humans naturally fall into some form of dominance hierarchy, like all sentient beings.  Government can mitigate oppression however, and it should.  We are more than just animals.  The alternative is for those with the means to wall themselves off from the neglected masses and live under constant threat of attack, relying on one's own abilities to provide a meaningful existence.  We create a better and happier existence through collaboration and ensuring that those who are struggling have a fighting chance.  At the bottom end of the capitalist ladder, people need to have hope, feel valued, and benefit from the system that makes most of its surplus on the backs of the lowest paid workers.  If you think it's reasonable for one or two individuals in a business or any workplace to earn more than a 1000 times what the lowest paid worker in that organization earns, maybe it's time to return to the jungle, where the ultra-dominant don't have to show any mercy.

No one is advocating for communism.  We've all read Animal Farm.  The important work in life happens in the middle, not at the extremes where the risks are high and bad things happen.

It's not that it's reasonable, it's just that it is so.  Is it reasonable for a sports star to earn 1000 times more than an emergency room nurse?  No, of course not, but they do.  If you can figure out a way to reverse that, let me know.

Equality of outcome is Communism...and it's being "advocated".

Apparently not.

Tell that to Poland.

There are already ways to do this: salary caps.  On the other hand, if a salary cap just puts more money in the hands of the franchise owner rather than the players who are putting the product on the field/court/ice that people are buying, that's not fair either.  It's a matter of recognizing that everyone in the organization plays a role.  Do the executives do 1000 times the work of the custodian or administrative assistant?  Of course not.  Does the NHL MVP do 1000 times the work of the Zamboni driver?  Of course not.  I'm not proposing an end to wealth.  We can get rich off of enterprises, but the workers within the enterprise should share at least a bit in that success.  It's not a measure to implement in a small or medium sized business where the owners are making a five or even a six figure income, but once we get into seven figures, and most definitely eight, it's time to look at whether everyone in the organization is benefitting from the largesse.  That isn't to say that everyone should earn the same amount.  Of course not.  But $2 billion vs. $20,000.00 is too great a difference.  One is earning 10000 times what the lowest paid worker earns.  Such business models exist today.
