Will Canada follow through and extradite Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou?

Here is a lever that Canada has yet to use.  Huawei wants into Canada.  In fact it has contracts with a number of business firms in Canada.  I suspect Canada will get a more favourable reaction from the Chinese government if Canada hints at blocking any of those contract in the interest of national security the way the US and a number of other nations have done.

Someone ought to tell western governments then. None of them have a clue.

Bullshit. The USA's military cyber unit is probably the oldest and largest group in this realm.  Also we know how good Israel is at cyber terrorism (Stuxnet against Iran).   But if you still want to go and implement the 'internet of things' in your home, then you are opening yourself up for more of that hacking and spying for any government connecting to the Internet.

You only hear about hacking from foreign entities on the USA within the USA. And you would only hear about the US's actions against another nation FROM that other nation's news media and government sources. You think the US is going to report they hacked the Russian government elections?  No.

Canada's government doesn't want to modernize its computers because there's no votes in it.

There is also no money and when you have idiots like Shared Services wasting a billion dollars on a failed pay system, you gotta wonder where their priorities are.  But this is part of the reason CSIS has a nice new complex to work out of on Blair/Ogilvie. You can bet that's super modern.

Oh FFS,  this still??

You are clueless. The US and Russia have tried hacking each other's military and government systems for quite some time. But the scale of Chinese efforts today massively exceeds anything the NSA has ever contemplated. The Chinese are certainly making concerted efforts at hacking all military and governmental networks, but also all technology firms, regardless of whether they're selling to the pentagon. They hack pretty much any organization involved in reporting human rights, any company which one of their own state-controlled firms is interested in or competing with, and any organization doing cutting edge research on any subject. Foreign Policy magazine estimated the size of China's 'hacker army' at between 50,000 and 100,000 people.

No money? I'm sorry, but have you ever been to this country? There's masses of money. It's simply being spent on shit that isn't the least bit important compared to the damn government having modern computer systems.

I realize you've dedicated your life to worshiping Donald Trump, but you being in denial about the basic realities of the world doesn't demand more stable individuals keep silent about them.

This guy gets it...Trudeau and his Sunshine Band do not...when it comes to such matters.    Blindly trusting "good faith" and naive inexperience have led Canada to this "botched affair".

So, in future, you would advocate 'creative incompetence' when the US puts in an extradition request with Canada for a top Chinese person?

Yes, I suggest precisely that, as a bargaining chip for Canadian, not American interests.    Trump only confirmed what a small pawn Weng is in a much larger game.

See it’s that kind of behaviour that leads to double speak and shadow governments, where the “official” government says one thing publicly and manipulates everything behind the scenes.  It’s everything people hated about the KGB and CIA.  I get that this sometimes happens for security reasons, but it’s a slippery slope.  Either we honour the extradition treaty and follow legal process or we don’t.  Do you really want to lose honest brokers?  Lying and manipulating are dangerous, exhausting and ultimately counterproductive actions.  Eventually people figure it out and credibility is lost.

C'mon...don't be so naive.   I already told you of an instance when Canada did not honour the extradition treaty.   Team Trudeau has to function in the real world, not the land of make believe.

It is the land of make believe in Canader, that's what it is to be a nanny socialist welfare gulag, these derp farmers think they are scoring points and making headway, but only because they haven't faced the Hurly Burly, although I think they are under the delusion that it's not out here all around them, rather than it simply hasn't taken notice of this forum, other than you of course, who are being way more reasonable than these clowns deserve.

I don't know how they could be so clueless....even Canadian media has ripped these amateurs for bungling everything they touch.    Trudeau and Freeland have screwed up every foreign policy "file" they engage.   Let's see.....India, China, United States, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela.   I probably missed a few.

It's totalitarianism, sir, same as Ivan, except without the teeth, that's why I call it Eskimo Communism, because even if they go commie, they're Eskimos, not the 1st Guards Tank Army.

Nah, sir, I've decamped to UKUSSA, just whistling Dixie in the world markets of America's Information Age revolution.

It's like living in the future, Canadian Confederation slipping away in review mirror, grown assed man now, don't need a nanny anymore.

Can't relate to that...I am rather inflexible that way...a 'murican nationalist with no desires to decamp to anywhere.

OTOH, Chinese nationals keep coming to Canada and the USA in droves.

Your country is not a failed state,  it took me a long time to realize that mine was, but once i did, it simply became a tethered tax jurisdiction, and a hockey team.

Like I said, I'm like the Mohawks now, it's just me and my land here, and the Great Mother Victoria across the sea, and all the Eskimo Communism between us, is just background noise.

Well, my country has plenty of challenges and a high body count, but there is no shortage of Americans last time I checked.   I takes the good with bad.

No, hand her over to Washington, she's a commie she devil, we got a Chicom princess in chains, let her get a taste of her own medicine, and let Beijing rage about it, what are they gonna do?  Withdraw investment?   Get lost commies, good riddance.

Trudeau could easily gain 10 points in his sagging poll numbers by doing something bold....unexpected.     Weng is a small fish that will hardly be missed by the U.S. Justice or Commerce departments.

Like what?  Canada doesn't have a Mi6 and CSIS ain't MI5, the clowns in Ottawa are not equipped to play realpolitik,  they only know how to crack the heads of their own nanny socialist welfare plebs, they don't know how to play in the big leagues, they totally rely on the Americans for that sort of thing, and now the Americans are acting against them, so they don't know what to do.

Weng falls ill and has to go to hospital....she slips out for the first flight to Chyna.    Canadian drug smuggler doesn't get a bullet to his head.   Easy...peasy.

Again, there's no covert intelligence arm here, CSIS doesn't do kinetic, all they do is watch, the Mounties do kinetic, but are not going to mess with a judge.

If they can smuggle hostages out of Iran, they can figure this out too.

That was the CIA,  the Canadians were just providing cover, they weren't the ones running the op.

What you are suggesting requires them to find an armed agent of the state who is willing to obey an unlawful order, in contravention of a sitting judge.

CIA has get out of jail free cards, we don't got those here.
