Goddess 1,161
I love ruins! I loved the Roman Baths in Bath, England and I loved Stonehenge. The UK is great for historical ruins. Although at the end of 3 months, I was getting a bit ruined-out.

Shropshire...Sort of like I imagined the Shire to be like. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stokesay_Castle

This one was also impressive...even if a bit reconstructed in most places. But getting there was like those hills in White Rock...all the way up. In Cumbria. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardknott_Roman_Fort

Now imagine several miles of that. I recall going-up in my uncle's Austin Mini...ideal for the job. But the place did reek of Rome...if you follow. Great view, too. I suppose that being the point of the fort.
JamesHackerMP 75
I have some great pictures--or had some, rather--of Roman ruins. I went to Pompeii and also the forum romanum.
bcsapper 1,590
Best Roman ruins I saw were in Trier. I had just come from Rome, too.
DogOnPorch 3,574
Ludlow Castle...another favorite. Ludlow was started as a Norman keep by Walter De Lacy, one of William's lieutenants. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludlow_Castle

I hoped that they used chlorine in those days.

Anyways, bcsapper might know this one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Hill,_Huddersfield The best ruins for me to have visited in my lifetime were the ones that I saw in Rome and Turkey. Our guide told us that we were now walking down the streets of Rome and Turkey where Cleopatra and Caesar and some of those vicious emperors once walked. I found the Coliseum in Rome and the ruins at Emphasis in Turkey to be very interesting and my favorites. I got to see where Cleopatra and Mark Anthony spent their wedding night at Emphasis. I would not stay there though. No TV. Europe is full of history and ruins and I was glad to see some of them and maybe even more on my next British/European cruise together.
