Well Ceci haters talk about him like he's Frankie Corrado or something, but the problem is that Ceci is not that feeble, Ceci does play 25 minutes a night in the NHL, he sucks at it, but he does play a lot, so he does seem like a candidate for the MBCC.

Yeah if Ceci was Frankie Corrado he would be feeble enough to not have to worry about him making the MBCC, but because he just mediocre enough, he could totally be a candidate for the MBCC.

Maurice's shelf life in Winnipeg may be coming to an end. Jets aren't going to side with Maurice over Laine, and if they did, that would be really dumb. Byfuglien and Wheeler's shelf life diminishes b

Yes but he's not Ovechkin. He's not tough and gritty enough, and doesn't have the Ovechkin skillset and shot he has while he was his age. Laine isn't a bust by any mean. He would be a 1st choice

Goalie Bob is overrated, Stralman, Yandle, Eckblad is gonna get caved in, Stralman is aging out, neither Yandle nor Eckblad actually play defense. Up front they're not that talented, basically a

Ceci was great in junior as an OFD, he was a big star, the problem being that he was so good offensively that he never had to learn how to play defense.

He can skate, and he can shoot, and he can play a lot, but that's all he can do.

The Bozak's be one upping Bobby Mac.

Well played,  nice to see Bozie get his Cup, of course he had to go to America to get it, as per usual, but it's not Bozie's fault Canada is Harold Ballard Land.

We really should change the name of Canada to Harold Ballard Land, because that really does express what Canada is all about.

Canada is literally run exactly like the Leafs under Pal Hal, I used to tell the troops that in the army, like don't expect to win, expect it to be a disaster, because the owners run this team to be losers, embrace the suck is your only option.

The Jets are losing a lot of guys to free agency.  Did they not plan ahead at all to be better prepared for it?  I don't get it.

Who did they lose? Myers and Tanev?  Totally expendable. Myers in particular is a big overpay for Vancouver, Myers is not worth 6 million to the Jets.

You build a team around a Core 7, everybody else interchangeable.

They have Shieffelle, Laine, Connor, Wheeler, Byfuglien and Hellebuyck, what the Jets need is a left handed defensemen to complete the Core 7, which is not Myers.

In depth they still have Ehlers, Roslovich, Copp, etc, they don't need to overpay Tanev.

They lost Trouba too, but he was going to bail anyway, so they traded him.

Not Chevy's fault, Trouba simply did not want to play in Canada, and I can't blame him for not wanting to live in Winnipeg, frozen or otherwise swampy bug infested armpit of the universe as it is, couldn't pay me enough to live in that hellhole, f**k  Winniberta.

Jim Rutherford lost his mind after back to back cups, now he overpays bottom six grinders and has completely forgotten what brought the Pens success in the first place. They dump Kessel to free up cap space, just to turn around and give half that money to Tanev on a six year term, insanity.

Six years for Tanev? WTF? That literally is insanity.

It's coming to a head now tho, with all these RFA's holding out

The new model is a Core 7 making all the money, surrounded by interchangeable parts making as close to the league minimum as possible.

This is why I'm not really concerned about the Leafs having to match a Marner offer sheet or just having to cave into him after a long holdout, Marner is where the money should go, if you have to move a Kapanen to make room, oh well, he's not Core 7, trade him for picks and move on.

Zadorov has his last chance to try and prove that the Avs should make him part of their long term plans, 1 year at $3.2 million AAV. I don't think he will be though, he ain't in the Core 7, and is going to want too much money, just to play behind Girard and Byram, so he's expendable. Trade him for picks and move on.

I hope Grubauer is the legit starter the Avs have been looking for, but until I see him handle 50+ games in the regular season and look good in process, I won't count that chicken before it's hatched. That playoff performance was certainly encouraging though, as was his play down the stretch to get the Avs into the playoffs, he could be the guy, just a need a larger sample size to back up my gut feeling, goaltending being voodoo and all.

Well who the heck is Jordan Binnington?  I mean, it really just comes down to who gets on a roll and then gets the bounces.

Exactly. We don't even know if Binnington is legit yet, samples size way too small. The upside of having a legit consistent starter, is they'll have more shots at getting on a roll in the playoffs, which increases the odds they will get on a roll at some point during the teams contention window and it will result in a Stanley Cup. That's what I'm hoping for.

Like, teams spend far too much time and energy trying to micro tweak their lineups, as if that really makes a difference.

All you can do is decide who your Core 7 is,  get them into the playoffs as many times as possible, and pray to the Hockey Gods.

With the parity in the league now, only the teams which miss the playoffs are out of the running, any team that makes it can win if they get hot at the right time.

Grubauer does seem to have a penchant for getting hot down the stretch, he took Holtby and Varlamov's job in back to back years because of it. Unfortunately for Grubauer, his team lost the first two games in Round 1 of their cup run, so he lost the job back to Holtby, though neither of those first two losses were his fault, but he didn't carry the hot streak into the playoffs, they went back to Holtby and he did get hot, the rest is history.

This is also why, if Marner were to blow it up with the Leafs, I would just move on,  I'd prefer to keep Marner, he's extremely entertaining, but in terms of winning the Cup, I don't think he makes that much of a difference anymore,  it's not like back in the day where you could build a super team around a Gretzky and then you were unstoppable.

Tampa gets swept in round one, St. Louis wins the cup, it's not about whose on the team, it's about whose on the team peaking at the right time.

True, but the better the team, the better the chances they peak at the right time, it's just no guarantee is all, it's up to the hockey gods.

See, looking back now, Vegas going all the way to the finals doesn't seem weird anymore, St.Louis was the same, now it's starting to look like a pattern rather than an aberration.

Not saying Tampa won't come storming back next year to win the cup, but it could literally be Montreal for all we know.

If you have a hot goalie down the stretch and the team gets fired up,  that's pretty much all it is now.

Parity is a helluva drug. That's pretty much all it is now, the better teams have a better chance, but if they don't get fired up and have a hot goalie while running into a team that has that going for them, the better team is going to lose.

In an odd sort of way it's making me feel kind of detached from it, it's a little less interesting, I mean, yeah, you need some players, but like now that they have Matthews, Tavares, Nylander, Marner, Rielly, Andersen, and Barrie, it's basically done, now it feels like a lottery from here on out, will they get hot or wont they, who is playing 3C or 5D is feeling pretty irrelevant.

It's not completely irrelevant, but it's more irrelevant than it's ever been. Good cheap depth helps, but it won't win you a championship, you need the core to get hot, especially the goalie. The depth guys chipping in is icing on the cake when the core leads by example.
