Maurice's shelf life in Winnipeg may be coming to an end. Jets aren't going to side with Maurice over Laine, and if they did, that would be really dumb. Byfuglien and Wheeler's shelf life diminishes b

Yes but he's not Ovechkin. He's not tough and gritty enough, and doesn't have the Ovechkin skillset and shot he has while he was his age. Laine isn't a bust by any mean. He would be a 1st choice

Goalie Bob is overrated, Stralman, Yandle, Eckblad is gonna get caved in, Stralman is aging out, neither Yandle nor Eckblad actually play defense. Up front they're not that talented, basically a

I hope Marner signs after Rantanen, if Marner signs first, that will likely increase the price tag.

They're all waiting for Marner, because they all want Marner to fleece the Leafs so they can use him as a comparable.

Rants, Laine, Connor, Tkachuck, Werenski, they're all waiting on Marner, that's why they haven't signed yet.

Marner is waiting on them too, they are likely to get overpaid and then Marner can use them as comparable, it's a game of chicken.

Thing is, Marner can't get what he wants, no team is giving up four picks for a five year contract, so the offer sheet he wants ain't coming.

The Leafs will go three or they will go six, but they won't go four or five, and neither will anybody else, so Marner will have to bridge, or sell two years of UFA.

Sell two years of UFA, to make it more likely that Rantanen will sell UFA years.

I also think the Leafs are prepared to just let Marner sit out the whole season, they ain't doing what they did with Nylander because they assess that as being a mistake.

So Marner can sit out the whole year, or bridge, or go six, of which the bridge seems the most likely.

Treating Marner like he's Nylander is a mistake. Don't be like the Steelers and let Le'Veon Bell sit out, that's another year of the Tavares window squandered.

Can't keep caving in, the inmates will be running the asylum, the fans are blaming Marner, so just let him sit,  f*ck Paul Marner and the horse he road in on, let him eat shit.

Then shouldn't have caved on Nylander, just because they made a mistake on Nylander doesn't mean they should make a mistake on Marner. Some players you have to cave to, that's just the way she goes. Gotta cave to the Matthews, Tavares and Marner's of the team, or you aren't going to win. It's too late to hold the ground on Nylander, but that doesn't mean they should pretend Marner is Nylander, because he's not.

It's not a mistake, just let Marner sit, you don't actually need him to win a cup, he's not as effective in the playoffs anyways, they got plenty of firepower, it's all gonna come down to Andersen in the end, Marner Schmarner.

Marner's playoff numbers are pretty good, he had one down year. It is a mistake, it's a Steelers not caving to Le'Veon Bell level mistake. Just pay the man, without the firepower the Leafs don't win, with or without a hot Anderson.

No, it doesn't matter anymore, St. Louis is a mediocre team on paper,  you don't need a Superteam to win anymore, it really just comes down to the goalie and which team gets hot at the right time.

That's why the offer sheet is an empty threat, because Dubas is prepared to walk away and take the picks if the Marner clan wants to go overboard, which is why the Marner clan doesn't have the leverage actually.

Mediocre teams on paper don't usually win the cup, they are outliers, even in the salary cap era.

If you want your team to get hot at the right time, those chances get a lot worse without Marner than with him. You could still theoretically win without him, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't get paid.

Pay him. Pay that man his money.

He can sign for three, or he can sign for six, if he won't move off four or five walked to UFA at full pop, let him sit the whole season out, the Leafs are not favorites anyways, the defence is still suspect, don't overpay for Marner just to contend, already a contender without him, and even with him they are not better than last years team, which was meh.

Like if the Leafs don't get super hot at the right time and Andersen goes lights out, they ain't gonna win shit.

They ain't so close in terms of depth that they should cave to Marner now.

The Leafs are still an outside shot with this defence,  they are still totally reliant on Andersen to go Conn Smythe, which could happen, but is not something to bet on.

If you have to take a step back to deal with Marner, so be it, fight and win this war now, because you're not actually a loaded up Superteam with Cody Bag of Hammers Ceci in your top four.

The Leafs should totally cave, unless he'll take three or six, but if he won't, letting him sit is dumb. Marner and Matthews are the most important players on team when it comes to winning a cup, who aren't named Freddie Andersen. You caved to Matthews and he can't seem to stay healthy and is more prone to want to leave Toronto than Marner being an American from the Southwest as opposed to a hometown kid, so why not cave to Marner?

Play moneypuck with everyone else, not caving to Marner, if it's the only option, is just being cheap as f*ck.

Marner is not a center, wingers are a dime a dozen, Marner is a super winger, but he's still exponentially more replaceable than Matthews.

Super wingers are not a dime a dozen though. He's more replaceable than Matthews, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't cave to him, just because he ain't a center.

You won't hear me idiotically taking the position that the Avs should let Rantanen sit if he won't cave, nope, pay that man his money, Teddy KGB knows.

Marner can go ahead and sign an offer sheet, or he can go f*ck himself, time to put Paul Marner invasive hockey parent in his place.

Making a mistake with a player of Marner's caliber, just because you hate his daddy, is an emotional over-reaction. If Rantanen won't cave, I advise the Avs to cave to him. Mikko Rantanen's do not grow on trees, pay that man his money, Teddy KGB knows.

It would be nice if the Avs can lowball Mikko and get away with it, but if they can't, I'm not going to get mad at him and tell him to go f*ck himself, and demand he sit for a year. That would just be silly.

If the defence was better I might feel more pressure, but since they are cap locked now, with Marincin and Ceci on the right side and Barrie as the third guy, I don't think they're that good, I think they've replaced Gardiner with another Gardiner, Ceci is Zaitsev and Marincin is the new Hainsey, ergo, let Marner sit, because this team is a long shot even with Marner, he doesn't put them over the top.

What good does making the team an even longer shot do? None.

There's no reason to overpay Marner for this year, because they're overrated, they haven't fixed their core problem, Marner doesn't fix it, it's Andersen Conn Smythe or bust, Marner Schmarner; lock him out, lock him out, lock him out . . .

You can say the same thing about Matthews, yet you overpaid him, treating Marner like he's closer to Nylander than Matthews is dumb. Not caving to Marner is a mistake, unless he'll cave to the Leafs, and is just fronting for a better deal.

Having him sit for a year is Le'Veon Bell 2.0, don't be the Steelers. The Steelers were better able to replace Le'Veon's production than the Leafs will be able to replace Marner's.
