It's sports, getting bent out of shape is the whole point.

If Mikko Rantanen signs the deal best for him, instead of team friendly deal that signs away three years of UFA on the cheap, I'm not going to hold it against him, just because that would be in the Avs best interests for him to take one for the team.

You can hold it against Marner if he does that, but I think that's pretty silly. I don't turn on the players on my team for wanting to get paid and not hating money. MacKinnon didn't want to get paid, and he hates money, and I appreciate his sacrifice, but if he had been smarter, I wouldn't hate him for it.

If Marner signs by training camp, all is forgiven, if he holds out past camp, let him rot.

If Marner holds out during the season, that's not being smart, at that point, you'd have a point, until then, cut Marner some slack. The media is making this out to be a way bigger deal than it actually is that he hasn't signed already, because that's what the Toronto Hockey Media does, don't fall for the trap.

Why should I cut him slack?  He choked in the playoffs and now he's trying to jam Dubeezus up, f*ck Paul Marner.

He should be trying to jam Dubeezus up, if he wasn't, that's hating money. He choked in the playoffs sure, but the year before, he ripped it in the playoffs, even Crosby chokes in the playoffs sometimes.

Does Crosby suck now because the Pens got swept and he had 1 point in four games? Choking in one playoff year shouldn't cause you turn on a guy who is as good as Marner is, if it becomes a trend, okay start hating, until then, that's jumping the gun. Stamkos and Point choked this year in the playoffs and got swept, that doesn't mean they suck and Tampa should turn on them.

Cut him some slack.

Marner's interests are not my interests, I have no interest in having Marner jam Dubstep up, Dubeezus is trying to make it fit, as to choking,  Marner has won exactly jack shit, I pay a hundred bucks a month to watch the games, if Marner wants some slack from me, he can give me my $1000.00 back.

Stamkos and Point have won exactly jack sh*t too, and they choked even worse last year, that doesn't mean Tampa fans should turn on them because they didn't pay their fans cable bills as penance.
/shrugs

Leafs fans need to relax and stop being played like puppets by a media whipping them into a frenzy over nothing. Y'all are impatient and emotional, simmer down ieady. Marner is not a bad guy because he wants to get paid and doesn't hate money, not buying that bullsh*t.

Tampa fans should do as they please,  after that choke, I wouldn't chastise Tampa fans if they burned the arena down with the team inside it.

I would. The Red Wings choked for years before they finally won, if the Red Wings fans all butthurt about that had burned their arena to the ground with the team inside it, they wouldn't have won those four Stanley Cups in the late 90's to mid 00's.

Impatience causing emotional "tear it all down" reactions leads to mediocrity, it is one of the major reasons the Leafs never win, caving in to the media and fans impatience, it is part and parcel of Harold Ballard Syndrome. This is why Leafs fans can't have nice things.

Leaf fans have been patient, and now that they have a contender for the first time in 50 years, here comes Mitch Marner going to blow it up cause wanh-wanh Matthews makes slightly more than me.  F*ck that pampered little prima donna, I'm prepared to move on from him as necessary, sign the offer sheet, give us the picks, and otherwise just f*ck off.

The media and fans are trying to blow it up, Marner ain't blowing anything up. You are slitting your own throats with these reactions, this is why the Leafs haven't had a contender for 50 years, any time they got close to having a contender they trade all their young starts and overpaid aging veterans because the fan base gets impatient, applying the same strategy once you get a contender would simply mean Harold Ballard Syndrome has gotten even worse and it going away was just an illusion.

Tim Leiweke Knows, that's why they ran him out of town, impatience. Leafs still have Harold Ballard Syndrome, you turning on Marner is the proof. Leafs fans don't deserve nice things, they look for scapegoats to excuse their own incompetence derailing the team over and over again, they will never learn if even smart Leafs fans like you fall for the trap, the team is f*cking doomed.

Don't need Marner to win the cup, he'll be slitting his own throat, just on loss of endorsements, it's not my problem, big Blue and White Machine rolls on without him, it's not the Toronto Marner's,  and it's not like there will be no compensation, with Kyle Dubas making the picks, I'm quite bullish on four first rounders, Mitch Lindros can go f*ck himself.

Harold Ballard Syndrome lives. Even when the Leafs get good, impatience of the fan base whipped up by the clickbait media will derail it, every single time, without fail. You need to lose before you learn how to win, but Leafs fans won't put up with that and form a mob to break it up before they can learn. Overpay UFA's well into their thirties and run the young stars out of town, like clockwork.

Leiweke warned you about this on his way out the door, way to learn nothing Dougie. Leafs fans get way too emotional, the media weaponizes it, and the team falls apart.

I wouldn't trade four first round picks for Connor McDavid, give us the picks, go to Columbus, we'll move on without you, Mitch, you're not a center.

If you really look at it, the Red Wings did not really wait that long from the time they became a powerhouse NHL team, to winning the cup. 1991-92 was the first year that Detroit was regarded as a legitimate contender to the Stanley Cup, after being shitty for 25 years. The WIngs really only choked once, against the underdog Sharks in 1993-94. In 1993, they lost a hard fought 7 game series to Toronto. In 1995, they made it to the Stanley Cup Final, and in 1996, they fell to a powerhouse Avalanche team, and began the NHL's best rivalry of the last 20 years.

I agree.

The Lightning should get rid of coach Cooper, but that is as far as it should go. The window period for the Lightning winning the cup again is closing, as Stevie Y is the main reason they have done so well in the last few years, and he went  back to Detroit.

The Leafs are doomed. Leafs Not Winning Immediately Derangement Syndrome causes the fan base to act as counter-productively as the Democrats reacting to Trump tweets, even you fall for it, that spells doom. Harold Ballarditis never left, it just went dormant for two to three years.

I would.  McDavid is only 22, and is still the NHL best player in spite of being in a train-wreck organization.  Put McJesus on a playoff team, and they will win a couple of Stanley Cups.

Someone overvalues first round picks, especially late first round picks, which are just glorified second rounders, and it's Dougie. I'd give up four first rounders for McDavid, that's an absolute no brainer, especially for any team in contention. The Leafs would be stupid not to make such a deal if they had the picks to give up and Edmonton was dumb enough to part with McDavid for that price.

Be my guest, but in this salary cap era, trading four first rounders for one player is how you become a train wreck team.

Who says its gonna be late first rounders?  Marner is not going to put the Islanders or Columbus over the top, these picks are not lottery protected.

Not if it's McDavid, or MacKinnon, that won't turn you into a train wreck. You overvalue late first round picks.

You overvalue McDavid, all he does is rack up a bunch of assists in the regular season, it doesn't have any effect on the fate of the Oilers whatsoever.

Nah top 3 players in NHL are worth four first rounders if your team isn't a complete dumpster fire. Trying to pretend there is no one who is worth four late first rounders is just silly.

Edmonton is so garbage McDavid can't make a difference, on any contender though, he'd make a huge difference, don't be naive. Just because he's not good enough to pull Ottawa out of their tail spin all by himself, doesn't mean half the NHL wouldn't be wise to give up four first rounders to get him.

The Oilers won a cup without Gretzky, Gretzky never won a cup without the Oilers, if some team thinks Mitch Ghost In The Playoffs Marner is worth it, let him sign the sheet, give us the picks, sayonara.
