Be my guest, but in this salary cap era, trading four first rounders for one player is how you become a train wreck team.

Unless said player happens to be named Gretzky, Lemieux, Hasek, Crosby, Ovechkin, or McDavid.

Maurice's shelf life in Winnipeg may be coming to an end. Jets aren't going to side with Maurice over Laine, and if they did, that would be really dumb. Byfuglien and Wheeler's shelf life diminishes b

Yes but he's not Ovechkin. He's not tough and gritty enough, and doesn't have the Ovechkin skillset and shot he has while he was his age. Laine isn't a bust by any mean. He would be a 1st choice

Goalie Bob is overrated, Stralman, Yandle, Eckblad is gonna get caved in, Stralman is aging out, neither Yandle nor Eckblad actually play defense. Up front they're not that talented, basically a

The Oilers won a cup without Gretzky, Gretzky never won a cup without the Oilers, if some team thinks Mitch Ghost In The Playoffs Marner is worth it, let him sign the sheet, give us the picks, sayonara.

The Oilers got jack sh*t for Gretzky, just because they won a cup without him doesn't mean that was a good deal. Four first rounders wouldn't have been worth Gretzky either, even if they were all lottery picks. To be fair to Edmonton though, if they hadn't moved Gretzky for jack sh*t, he would have left a year later anyway, for absolutely nothing. So a bag of pucks and some cash was better than that I guess, especially when everyone knew Gretzky was gone in a year, and they weren't going to get proper value.

Even still, they should have gotten more.

It was a good deal because Bruce McNall paid $15 million cash for him, just as you say; Peter Pocklington doesn't hate money.

Was a great move for ownership, cha-ching. Still should have gotten more though, even with Gretzky having only a year left on his deal. Gretzky made LA so much money, the Oilers could have easily gotten more money, and/or better players in the deal.

He only had three years left as the Great One anyways, he was never the same after he got cross checked in the back by Gary Suter at the Canada Cup, so the Oilers had already got the best of him, and they sold high.

They sold high and got way less than they should have though. Selling high was a good idea, getting that little back wasn't though, LA would have payed more if they hadn't caved so fast.

Pocklington got $15 million back, that was a king's ransom in 1988, that's a kings ransom now, that's $32 million inflation adjusted.

Considering how much Gretzky made the LA Kings, it more than paid for itself many times over, should have gotten more. Not buying that was the best possible deal they could have made, they just thought it was and caved too early in negotiations.

Didn't make the Kings a thing,  the bank threatened to force them into bankruptcy in 1993, so the team was not profitable with Gretzky.

Think of how much worse it would have been without him, he saved the Kings.

Fact is, Marner has done jack shit for the Leafs, all he does is rack up a bunch of assists in the regular season.

First playoff in Washington he was invisible.

Second playoff against Boston he was slightly better, but still pretty ineffective.

This year against Boston, back to invisible.

When the going gets rough in the playoffs, Marner turns into a ghost.

He might be better in the future, or might be as useless as Connor McDavid.

Bankruptcy is bankruptcy, Gretzky didn't win shit for them, he didn't make any money for them neither.

The man who saved the Kings is named Jeffery Sudikov.

The Edmonton Oilers are useless, Connor McDavid is not. How is it McDavid's fault that the Oilers goaltending and defense sucks, and they have no depth at forward? McDavid hard carries them, they are just so sh*t that only keeps them out of the absolute basement of the NHL. Swap McDavid out for Crosby or MacKinnon, and the Oilers aren't any better, no one player can save that dumpster fire, not even prime Gretzky would get them to the playoffs.

It's the Oilers, not McDavid.

9 points in 7 games, 4 goals and 5 assists is "pretty ineffective"? Marner hater being overly emotional is obvious, more than a point per game in the playoffs isn't good enough, then you'll never give him any credit for playing well in the playoffs.

The Leafs lost the series, ergo, Marner was ineffective, he doesn't put anybody over the top, he's not a 1C, he's not a 1D, he's not a 1G, wingers are a dime a dozen, enjoy Columbus, Mitch Lindros, sayonara.

One player not winning the series for a team does not equal them being ineffective. You are being ridiculous, a point per game is not ineffective, regardless of the series outcome.

I can't even stand the sight of him anymore, the smarmy little puke, "I'm not paying attention, I just let my agent handle it", run him out of town on a rail, enjoy playing in hockey nowhere, Mitch Lindros, you can do used car commercials for the local Buick dealership, ya f*ckin' goof.

Harold Ballard Disease Lives. Temporary remission, but it's back with a vengeance in Toronto, enjoy. All it took was two years as a contender and not winning the Stanley Cup to bring it back, the ghost still haunts them, he just took a vacation.

The team can't be saved until the idiot fan base stops sabotaging the team with their ridiculous hot takes that the media goads them into. Listening to the fans and the media is a sure fire way to ensure the Leafs never win, you'd think decades of that being the case would make them hip to it being a terrible idea, but they get good for half a second and the Sharks are already circling.

I wish Pal Hal was around now, Harold would teach Mitch a lesson, don't play chicken with the Leafs, you will be run out of town, sign the bridge, or you can enjoy doing used car commercials in Ohio, your loss, Big Blue & White Machine rolls on without you.

You love having Harold Ballard Disease, sticking it to Marner is more important than the team's success. Tell Leafs fans they are making the same mistakes that held them back for decades and they are like "f*ck yeah, lets do that, bring it on!".

Sad. Enjoy The Leafs never winning the Stanley Cup in your entire lifespan, just remember, this is actually what you really wanted, deep down. A losing team culture if ever there was one. This is why y'all can't have nice things.

Go ahead be the next Red Sox and Cubs. I'm just glad I jumped ship long ago, to a team that doesn't have a batsh*t insane fan base and media which doesn't perpetually drag my team down like an anchor. Best sporting decision I ever made, and ever will make.

God Bless Joe Sakic and Nathan MacKinnon.

I miss Pal Hal.  I wish he would come back from the dead and go around beating Millenials with his mighty cane of poisonous contempt.

As for the cup, it's too late for me, my father is long dead, I have no one to celebrate a cup with anyways, Smarmer running himself out of town on a rail would be an entertaining spectacle, whatever, bring it on, Mitch Lindros, you'll live to regret it, but it makes no difference to my life either way.

It's such a relief to actually be a fan of a sane NHL franchise that doesn't self sabotage itself at every turn, while the idiotic fan base actually cheers it on, thanks to being brainwashed by the moronic hot takes of the hockey media.

Feels Good Man. Ain't no Harold Ballard Disease in Denver. When the Nordiques left Canada, they were wise enough to leave the Harold Ballard Disease behind.

Woop Woop.

Without Leafs dysfunction I would have lost interest a long time ago, I hate the NHL now with a passion, the only thing keeping me interested is Leafs intrigue.

I'm not ten years old anymore, who wins the Stanley Cup is not  that important to me anymore, hockey is really just something to watch on tv to try to pass the shitty Canadian winter.

My money is what is important to me, just like Mitch Marner, all I care about is getting paid.

Yet you hate on Mitch Marner for doing exactly what you would do in his position and want to run him out of town over it. Harold Ballard Disease is a helluva aliment.
