A DPA for SNC-Lavalin is not "taking a stand"...yet you are the strongest supporter here for just that...because...jobs !

Nothing special about Canada.

I never said there was anything special about Canada.  This is a Canadian politics forum.  What do you expect?  Don’t slam Canada for claiming moral superiority when Canadians call for an end to double standards, such as DPA’s for trading partners but not for Canada.

Do as you please in Canada, but don't pretend that your "standards" are any better or superior.

Trading partners will compete with Canada at all levels...and don't give a damn about your domestic soap opera(s).

You enjoy watching Trudeau “twist in the wind.”

Oh I would say the US under Trump is so far ahead in the laughable soap opera business we'll never catch up, not that we wish to.

You should perhaps give him some help with counting, as to the number of floors in a building.

Slamming countries like Canada for trying to maintain high ethical standards is one reason countries like Saudi Arabia or Russia can lean on the excuse of Realpolitik to mistreat or even murder political dissidents.  Even China is making a show of stomping on human rights these days, because, how dare little Canada take a stand?

Hi ethical standards? Mulroney. Chretienne. Need one say more?

That's OK...the world cares a lot more about Trump than Trudeau...Trump matters far more.

No vision problem....Trudeau is "On Guard For Thee" when it comes to SNC-Lavalin and future contracts for "rotary" winged aircraft landing pads.

So if he can see OK he's just not so good at math. I'm sure his accountants will verify that.

I’m well aware of the overbuilding in China.  It doesn’t matter because China ignores its inflationary rate.  Essentially China has been overspending and overbuilding for the past 15 years and will continue to do so.  What’s anyone going to do about it?  It’s like an endless New Deal of economic stimulation.  It’s smart because they’re creating a massive market for their own goods.  The best thing the West could do is move production from China.  We’ve become addicted to cheap Chinese goods, but other countries can make them.  China is blocking our canola, soy, and even our films, as they detain Canadians for no good reason.

The US put Canada in the middle of its trade war with China through its steel and aluminum tariffs and of course the the Huawei extradition business.  Canada has been forced to choose and of course will almost always choose the US, even as it mistreats us.  This is why Canada has to seek new markets for export.  TPP and CETA should help, but we also need to boycott the products of companies like GM that curtail production here.

It is because Huawei, Canada has nothing to do with US-China' steel and aluminum tariffs. TPP and CETA are just pipe dream, may be some MOU but no real deal.

Canada has more value in its resources for the size of its population than any country on Earth.  It “runs with the big boys” in certain sectors and has international success stories in multiple sectors, but Canada has a relatively small population.  Don’t compare apples to oranges.  And remove your steel and aluminum tariffs against Canada, which are killing the auto sector in both countries.  What you don’t seem to appreciate is that a so called American company producing vehicles in China for the Chinese market is for all intents and purposes a Chinese company.

The American (and German) auto companies in China are 50% owners by law.  The other half belongs to a designated Chinese partner chosen by Beijing.  So, you a very correct inasmuch as they are "Chinese" companies.   However, China is not a passive partner, they are incredibly manipulative and predatory.  Every bit as much as Islam wants to be the exclusive religion of the world, China wants to be the dominant economy - as it has been for the Eastern region for most of the last 5000 years.  They will eventually export complete cars to North America (has already started) and will exploit every angle to do here what they have done all over the Asia Pacific region with markets they want to enter - they will destroy the competition by any means they can.

We can be a resource provider to China, as we are now to the USA, but how much of an actual business partner as we are with USA is likely to be very much subservient.  If you know or follow the automobile business, you will know that when GM went tits in the USA, China bailed out GM China but for the price, they managed to move around a lot of production and R&D facilities in all of the Asia-Pacific Region, so in the end China controls it all.  Ultimately, they will own effective control of GM USA.

The supply chains are integrated.  Buick came from Oshawa.  Canadians buy in volume more autos than we produce.  In fact, we buy more vehicles made in the US than we produce.

The numbers are not about just the cars, it is the component parts and sub-assemblies that make up the difference.  To put it into perspective, Magna Int'l is the largest independent manufacturer of auto parts and sub assemblies in the world.

Uh....China and the USA seem to care a great deal about the soap opera with Huawei that the two have inflicted upon us.

That's right...and it will never be Canada.   GM is closing the 100 year old Oshawa plant.

Inflicted upon yourselves...same as the SNC-Lavalin fiasco.    Send Meng home...do it now.

Ah apparently you are unaware of a treaty we have with y'all. I can imagine the bitching we'd hear if we reneged on that treaty, especially from certain Canada trolls.

Canada has no problem breaking treaties with "aboriginals".    Trade Meng for the Canadian perps in China....done deal.

Then try to keep SNC-Lavalin from moving its HQ to the USA or UK.

Can't do your "done deal" because of that treaty. I wonder if Trump is even aware it exists. He's dumb enough not to it seems.

Such exchanges are made by real international players...I guess Trudeau doesn't have the balls.   So Canadians pay the price.

Now JWR has him by the short hairs on SNC-Lavalin.

Trudeau abides by the treaty. And yes it seems we do pay a price since Trump has no balls.

Then Trudeau can suffer too....for SNC-Lavalin and his government's incompetence.   Trump will always matter more than Trudeau.
