Canada needs to stop being China's bitch

Recommended Posts

BEIJING — China said Wednesday it suspended a second major Canadian canola exporter over alleged safety concerns, further deepening a diplomatic row set off by Canada’s decision to detain a top executive with telecom giant Huawei.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said China’s actions were “scientific and reasonable,” but added that Canada should “take practical measures to correct the mistakes it made earlier” in the bilateral relationship.

As I have noted on this site earlier, China pays no attention to rules, laws or agreements unless it suits them. People might remember they already blackmailed Canada by threatening canola imports a couple of years ago. When we gave in they signed an agreement promising the trade was safe until 2020. This simply shows how little the word of the Chinese government is worth. And in their latest arrogant pronouncement they make it quite clear this is being done as punishment for us not releasing their corrupt princess arrested due to Huwai's corrupt financial and trade practices.

The reason the Chinese feel free to keep hitting us is because our wimpy, useless selfy loving prime minister and his government haven't got the spine to stand up to them. The kind of people running China will ALWAYS bully, prod and push everyone else to get anything they can. They will never stop until someone stands up to them. Thus far we haven't even begun to approach doing so. Whether it's illegally arresting Canadians in China, flooding Canada with fentanyl, cheating on trade, or breaking agreements, China is a country not to be trusted, a country which understands power and only power.

We currently export about $27 billion in mostly agricultural and raw materials to China. But we import over $75 billion in goods, mostly manufactured goods. That is a strong lever to use, and we should do so. Whatever the export loss of Canola, we should double it, and outright ban the import of that amount of Chinese goods, starting with things made in Canada or otherwise easily replaced, like steel, sports equipment, and automotive parts and equipment. We should outright ban Huawie from operating in Canada at all on any level, right down to their cell phones, cut back on Chinese students allowed into our schools, ban all money coming from China for research at our universities, and end Chinese immigration to Canada. If China retaliates we should double the amount of Chinese goods banned. We should also subject every vessel arriving from China to a thorough, top to bottom inspection for fentanyl on the grounds that all the fentanyl in Canada comes from China. And if that means Chinese ships backed up all the way to Hawaii - I'm fine with that.

We need a Trump here as well.

Not a paler (literally) copy of Obama who cries because reasons and self-loathing.

We need a negotiator and someone who respects the working and middle class.

Trump is a moron. He's never been a negotiator, and he's accomplished zilch with China so far. The US trade deficit with them is UP,  not down. As for respecting the working class - Trump doesn't even know anyone in the working or middle class, other than servants. Nor has he ever expressed the slightest concern with them up until he ran for President. He's a salesman, one without ethics, and he simply spouted the words needed to make the sale.

Say what you will about President Trump, but China - US relations have never been better.  Even with plenty of tariffs on both sides US companies are still performing better than ever.  When or if US-China trade tensions end, the economy will boom on both sides.  The Trump administration is playing the trade game right.  For the past 3 months, US and China delegations have been meeting almost everyday in hopes of a new trade deal and to ease trade tensions.

Now lets compare this to the Canada-China relations.  For the past 3 months, Canada has been bitching about Canadians getting detained in China and bitching about China stopping imports of Canadian Canola Oil.  All this because Canada feels China is retaliating against us for arresting Meng Wanzhou of Huaweii.  All Canada has been doing is bitch and not get any work done.

If you think that is a good lever, you may find out that it is a rotted wood. It is because we don't know that $75 billion breakdown, but we know that $27 billion are real deal. Then, JT and his minions are really addicted to China's easy money. Don't worry, it is not that bad yet :P

Indeed, it is a war of attrition.

Of course we know the $75 billion breakdown. Have a look https://www.asiapacific.ca/statistics/trade/bilateral-trade-asia-product/canadas-merchandise-trade-china

There's very little here which can't be replaced from other countries at need. We should be focusing on trade with countries which actually have a somewhat open market, like Japan and Taiwan, not a closed, corrupt, cheating system like China operates. No matter what agreement they make, they can easily break, just as they are the one on canola exports. Or they can quietly order importers not to import certain goods, and that leaves you with no way to even make a real complaint.

The Laurier Institute did a study of China's trade agreements and found they always lopsidedly benefit China.

sorry for not making myself clear; I mean the manufactured goods (merchandise) that are not CMT. For instance, Apple takes all profit from their "MIC" iphone, then Huawei and Xiaomi make little $ with their "MIC" phone, but Chengdu Panda Base keeps all the panda research fee from Canada.

Haha, I have no idea JT wants free trade with CHina. Did JT's miniors study any previous China free trade agreements? China breaks all of them. Too bad, naive lefists let China into the WTO.

I still don't understand why that happened or why they haven't been removed since then. They completely ignore WTO rules on almost everything.

He has nearly bankrupted thousands of soybean farmers, caused miners to lose jobs and Trumenomics are closing 4 GM plants in the US. So much for respect for the working class. Appropriately enough though, his very supporters are the one suffering the most from his sheer incompetence, arrogance and psychopathy.

Do you have source on that?
I understand that few countries in S.A. scooped the US soybean up and sold them to China

All you have to know about Trump's idiotic tariffs is that the one on steel and aluminum will help save 20,000 jobs in the steel and aluminum industries at the cost of 400,000 jobs in manufacturing.

His tariffs on Canadian lumber increased the average cost of a house in the US by $9,000 and led to massive losses in the housing and construction industries for very little gain in the lumber industry.

The man's an economic illiterate.

This is patently false, easily demonstrated by significant jobs growth in U.S. manufacturing...far better than in Canada:

Quote

Over the past two years, with the encouragement of the Trump Administration’s red-tape cutting policies and the tax cut and reform law passed in December 2017, manufacturers added 467,000 jobs, more than six times the 73,000 manufacturing jobs added in Obama’s last two years.

Seems pretty easy for you ti ignore the state of the economy your namesake handed to Obama and how he improved it over his two terms. Trump is riding along on the crest of that wave while he drives the debt through the roof.

Here's my theory as to why the Liberal government is not doing anything to get these tariffs lifted.  Liberal government wants Canadians to be anti-trump which will in turn influence American voters come 2020 so that Trump will get out of office. All I hear from this Liberal government is complaining that these tariffs are unfair and calling them "illegal".  Other than that, they have done nothing to get these tariffs lifted.  Employment insurance is issued to everyone who has loss jobs to these tariffs which will hurt our debt or dollar in the long run.  This will in turn cause more hatred towards Trump.

Now more specifically about these tariffs, I actually agree with the Canadian government about the lumber tariffs but not about steel and aluminum tariffs.  Just because companies in Canada buy lumber at a cheaper price doesn't give Trump the right to impose tariffs on lumber.  This still doesn't mean the Canada should be doing nothing about this, there's always something to negotiate about.  Now we have to remember the root cause of the steel and aluminum tariffs, which is the dumping of Chinese steel into America.  Canada buys steel and aluminum from China which in turn is sold to America.  So basically America is blaming Canada for acting as a proxy for China.  It's not that I agree with America's decision on this, It just makes sense for America to this.  Whether its a difficult task or not,  Canada can get this tariff lifted if they would just negotiate with China on this matter.  Obviously Canada has not negotiated with China at all or even with America I might add, and even worse Canada has been doing nothing.  All they've been doing is yelling "illegal".

America has been heavily divided ever since Trump came into office, that's why I think the Democrats are using Canada to influence the 2020 election.  It sucks for us since we are actually getting hurt by this.  It's really Trudeau's fault for being a puppet for the Democrats.

Canada has imposed the same tariffs on Chinese steel and aluminum that the US has, so there is no reason for the US to impose tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum producers, one of which is US Steel!

The arrogance with which Chinese diplomats are now behaving shows they have little respect and no fear of what Canada might do to them. Trudeau has spent his entire term sucking up to China and almost desperately trying to give him some kind of trade deal. They have responded by treating him - and Canada - with the contempt they reserve for weaklings.

A Chinese diplomat in Montreal tried to shut down an event at Concordia University featuring an exiled Muslim minority leader this week, says an organizer, marking China’s third recent attempt to influence activities on Canadian campuses.

That's actually new to me.  This came in October too, so not too sure what we can do.  Maybe Canada is just screwed then.  I don't think the PC government can handle the US right now either.  It's so sad to be a Canadian right now.
